  • The Hruska family ran the dam store for decades. On Saturday, all that was left was rubble. The family and county decided to demolish on Friday, after determining the structure was otherwise likely to end up in the river.

    I hope the county, state, surrounding property owners and the family are able to come to an agreement to rebuild a replacement home and store in a safer location around the Rapidan Dam site. I would go manufactured for the store and bring in a mobile home to be temporary while building a replacement home. If the dam fails and ends up in the river or it’s removed or replaced I would have engineers reclaim some of the lost land and if the dam is repaired a overflow tunnel is needed at the site. I also hope the state places a historic marker explaining the event and the buildings lost during this flooding event.

      Reposted from another comment.
      The flood washed the debris downstream into the dam. Once clogged it started to overtop the side making removing the debris unsafe. You could only really remove it from on the dam itself or right on the bank edge. That was too dangerous with the river flooded. This was covered earlier in the week.

      What's the National Guard going to do....lob artillery at the river to make it stop flooding? Why would removing the trees make any difference? Blue Earth county is working with local Emergency Management officials, local law enforcement, Army Corps of Engineers and other federal agencies that govern dam sites. They have been working diligently to monitor and make decisions about the dam area, to keep everyone safe.

    • @potblack6043
      @potblack6043 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      from the sound of it, the county was in the planning stages of demolishing the dam. Maybe they didnt want to spend money making repairs to a structure that would ultimately be demolished? and didnt think the trees would large hazard before demolition began? Not a defense, they should have done that anyway, but a possibility.
