  • As the lead guitarist and songwriter of A Perfect Circle and Ashes Divide, Billy Howerdel got his start in music as a guitar technician working for bands such as Tool, Fishbone, Faith No More and The Smashing Pumpkins.
    But it was during a 2 year stint guitar teching for Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails that he came across a Les Paul that would end up becoming his first Gibson Guitar.

      The synths they wrecked were Yamaha DX7s, used only for triggering samples via MIDI. They went from being the best selling synth of the 80s to being deeply unfashionable by the 90s, so could be picked up for two a penny.

    The neck is from a 1993+ gibson les paul classic. The original headstock for this guitar would of had a 'les Paul model' written on it rather than 'les Paul Classic'. I know about this because I'm a happy owner of a 1991 gibson Les Paul classic.

  • @peachmelba1000

    Most Gibson's that suffer a headstock break and are properly repaired thereafter end up stronger in the area of the break because modern wood glue cures harder than the wood itself, which begs the question, why does Gibson not return to using volutes?

      Don't listen to the cork sniffers brother. I've had 2 different Gibson's a standard and a classic LP, but my 2022 Epiphone Jerry Cantrell Custom wino blows them both away by a mile. I sold my last Gibson off which was the classic after I got that Epi and fell so in love with it. Granted I have done some tasteful mods like Seymour Duncan JB/59' combo, orange drop caps, TonePros bridge, Tusq nut and Keystone metal tuner buttons. I'll never sell it, this one's staying for the long haul lol.

    This can’t be a 1991 les paul classic, because the early classics from ‘90 and ‘91 were such accurate reissues of the 1960 les paul that they were more accurate than the historic les paul models coming out of the custom shop, however for a way cheaper price, so in 1992 Gibson changed a few things. One thing they changed was the wider binding between neck and body, which you can clearly see on Billy’s guitar at 1:45 and another thing they changed was the word “model” in the les paul decal to the word “classic”. So the replaced headstock on Billy’s guitar is also from a newer classic.
    I have the same exact guitar in the same, rare, cinnamon burst finish from 1994.

  • @geet77777
    @geet77777 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have tons of low quality footage of trent playing that guitar and another just like it. its not a 60's reissue. its a les paul classic. its a rare color Cinnnamon burst that was made exclusively for a few specific guitar chain stores. I've got one from '99. I do not believe Billys is a '91. both the cinnamon bursts were identical years and under the "les paul" it would have said "model" instead of "classic" only the very early ones said " gibson les paul model", it was later changed to "les paul classic" It's also not got the aged fret inlays which means its older, but can't be as old as 1991. If Gibson or Blilly want my knowledge on these guitars, hit me up, I even have some footage of billy working on them and has a beard. This one is a " good wood" year but the real reason it sounds so good is because of the reduced break angle on the headstock.

  • @geet77777
    @geet77777 ปีที่แล้ว

    Gibson does not realize how big of a deal a Billy Howerdell signature, limited les paul cinnaburst would be. If they were brave they would match the headstock angle. Otherwise they could just make it normal and it would be a funny running joke that you have to break it to be accurate. I have so many ideas about this model I'm imagining and I'd love to share them.
