I had the tremendous opportunity to spend two nights at the Wigwam Motel (Wigwam Village Motel No. 6) on Route 66 in Holbrook, Arizona. This is one of the most recognizable icons of the American roadside, and still maintains a retro atmosphere straight out of the 1940s and 50s. In this video, I explore the entire property, including the inside of a Wigwam, the Museum, and the various antique autos and big petrified logs strewn about the property.
From 19:48 on, I had to remove a track over a year after release (dang TH-cam bots...) The natural audio was cut and the music is loud in that section, so sorry about that!

I first stayed there as a child with my parents sometime in the 50's. Then again while I was driving a truck for CFI in around 1992 or 93. Then again with my wife just 7 or 8 years ago. It's just cool. If you ever have the opportunity, just do it. Very nostalgic, and very memorable.....at least for me.

That's awesome you got to stay in a wigwam! And all the vintage cars & vintage stuff are right up my alley. Thanks for sharing your experience, I want to check out the ones by Mammoth Cave.

Yep, this was a magical place. I also want to visit the Cave City one, hopefully this year!

So cool! We didn’t know there was one in Mammoth Cave area. We’ll definitely have to check it out when we go there this summer.

Yep, as probably mentioned that one is a good deal older than this one, and thankfully it recently reopened (was getting worried about it.) Enjoy Cave City, I'm hoping to go there for the first time later this year.

If you want another blast from the past, check out the Sundown Inn in Morro Bay. They still have Magic Fingers beds and it still only costs 25 cents to vibrate the heck out of your bed.

I remember staying there when I was 7. Of course it was the 50's. And of course Roy Rogers, Gene Autrey. And Cowboy's and Indians ruled the television stations . LOL I remember being so disappointed. There weren't plush bear skins on the floor to sleep on or on the walls. Would I stay there again? YES

The use of Peer Gynt was inspired and I was only left thinking why you never used that before? Maybe, something about a sunrise in the Southwest? (though the Zen moment when the trains passed through was perfect).

Thanks, I usually associate that piece with sunrises so I save it for that, but don't often head out to scenic spots for sunrises. I think I used it many years ago when I witnessed a Grand Canyon Sunrise, so you can look that video up if you want. Thanks for that compliment, glad you enjoyed the video!
