We’re so alike with our camera ethics! I love the freedom of being able to use ANY camera and be creative and enjoy the process! I cannot remember the last time I used my “fancy” full frame cameras for anything other than filming myself (because the AF is less annoying hahah)
I went hitchhiking all over the US west during the summer before my senior year 1976, and I took three books with me, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, on the Road by Kerouac, and Notes on Love and Courage by Hugh Prather, which I still keep on my nightstand where ever I go. Your quote from Note to Myself took me right back there!
Love the camera content, per usual, but the commentary around it on this one HIT DEEP. I needed that and I guess I was only able to process it when sandwiched between camera nerd content. Thank you for all you do!
So excited to hear your thoughts on the D700! It was my first full-frame. I shot with it exclusively for many, many years and it has always been such a reliable and dependable camera. I hope it brings you the same joy it brought me.
Another great vid! I have been curious about the Nikon 1 system for years, I'm excited to see your vid about it (when I finally catch up on your videos sometime in the new year 😆) As always, you have gotten me jazzed to shoot. Happy holidays!
@10:42 I’m going to say thank you for admitting you post process your photos. There are COUNTLESS people on TH-cam who never mention they obviously do, and give the false impression their shots are straight out of camera…
I'm so glad you appreciate that detail. My whole instagram feed is carousels of SOOC photos and my post processed photos because I think that is a hugely important point.
I think the weak point in the Nikon 1 system was the 10-30/30 -110 zoom lenses which had a high failure rate due to sub standard internal electronics, I don't think the cameras are especially failure -prone, the 1V1 in particular seems pretty tough with very few moving parts..
I'm surprised to hear you're selling the M8 but maybe not that surprised... There are few people who can seemingly use any camera and take the same quality of images no matter what and you definitely have that ability. You've definitely inspired me to focus more on the photos I'm taking over the gear I'm using
Definitely ..but i should be a tabloid journalist cos I love taking things out of context! "l'm actively supporting three generations of my family and it's just not where I want to put my money"
Good for you. I loved your old camera reviews but like most people I have budgets and other financial commitments so I sold most of my gear I’m staying with 3 now older MFT cameras and one film all Olympus so could swap lenses. Cheers from southern Georgian Bay Ontario Canada
Hello, I need help!!! I recently bought an Olympus camedia but the xD card gives me an error! I went to a technician store and they told me the camera AND card was too old to be used so there’s no u use trying, yet I saw many people use it. What do I do?
Great idea to sell the expensive gear and keep experimenting with what brings you joy! There is a boundless ocean of cameras to explore, it truly is like treasure hunting. And love the quote at the end, so inspiring!
You nailed it. Everytime I worry about selling a camera I remind myself of how many cameras I have shot and loved and that there will always be another.
It's hard for me not to fall for the hype, but my partner helps me a lot with that by reminding me about my 'other' cameras that are collecting dust on the closet. by picking the stuff that I already have after a long time I feel refreshed and encourage to take even more photos. Thanks for sharing your perspective around the topic!
thanks for great video :-) so happy to se the Fuji GS645 and the little Olympus E400. Especially the Fuji because I havent used mine enough and was thinking - should I sell it rather than it collecting dust. But now I feel like bringing it for my summer vacation to northern Jutland and see what I can do with it in that beautiful land of high skies and long sandy beaches.
Hi Ali, I need a recommendation for a point and shoot (with CCD sensor hopefully) that I can afford. I have big dslr’s but you can’t always take them. I mostly shoot buildings. Got and camera ideas? Thanks so much!
Not only did you inspire me to watch until the end, you also inspired me to go for a walk in the forest to do some camera testing 🤓 agfa optima sensor 1535 baybeee, James Hurren
In terms of infrared have you not tried removing the ir filter from your sigma quattro h. Easily done (and replaced). Then put an IR filter on the lens and you are good to go.
The J series in the line up are wonderful and seemingly better value as well. Quite a few more of those around on resale sights and bundled for cost. Totally agree that the 18.5 is special ✨
For me personally, I like to use cameras that I have a connection to in some shape or form. I currently own 3, Nikon F50, Ricoh GRII and a sigma DP0 Quattro, and after watching one of your videos, you have persuaded me to hunt down a Quattro H. There's just something special in those cameras to me they just seem to fit me perfectly regardless of their flaws, and I wouldn't swap them for any of the newest ones on the market ( ok maybe a Leica monochrome ). Thankyou for your videos, I feel like I'm home.
I SO get that whole "over-extended" in gear thing: I was in debt (and had just retired from bus driving) with too many lenses, three cameras...it was nuts. Very difficult to choose which to keep, but in the end, of course, one can make great photos with any camera. Eyes. Brain. Instinct. Still dicking around thinking which to keep, but I'll figure it out.
Great content as always! Im trimming down my collection as well. I fell in love with the 1d in a large part because of you, mine has some issues though... I will never get rid of that camera. That would be the exception to buying a new body for me, finding one in better shape.
I love the Nikon 1 system. I can carry both the 10-30 and 30-100 lenses in one hand! The bodies seem to be on the fragile side though as I've lost a V1 when the AF stopped working. The camera I'm shooting this summer is the Olympus C740. Have you heard of it? hehehe. THANK YOU so much for turning me on to this dirt cheap camera. It is such a wonder.
Sounds like a great line-up. I'm shooting digital this summer so far even though, I have film and film cameras to use, and the light is finally here - it's the processing, that makes me prioritize digital photography over film at the moment. I'm currently trying to convince myself not to add an Olympus Camedia C2500L and a Panasonic DMC FZ2 to my own line-up. I know I can get by with my Sigma Foveon sensor cameras and what I have been using lately (Canon EOS 5D Classic, Nikon D600, Sony RX100 III and Olympus XZ-1), but the itch never goes away.
It's so true. My itch will come back to be sure, but downsizing right now feels truly liberating. I love owning gear, I just don't want my gear owning me. :)
In case youre not already aware, the Sony f717 (and f828) is extremely easy to use as a proper infrared camera, using an earth magnet to shift away the hot mirror. Slap that R72 filter on it and you're good to go!
I adore my Nikon V1, especially with the 18.5 f/1.8, a nifty fifty. Images look great, the camera at the time was ground breaking in terms of speed and on sensor PDAF. I’ve brought this the V1 all over the world. Btw, the J1 body I’ve seen for $50 in mint condition. Wonderful, affordable gear in a time when prices are absurd.
I love that!! The V line up suit me because I love that EVF experience so much but I had the J5 a while back with the 10-30 and 30-100 all for $125. I was gobsmacked!! They're really fun little cameras.
@@OneMonthTwoCameras $125 with both kit lenses is a phenomenal deal!Yes, the EVF makes the V series far easier to shoot with for me. Anyway, all of your images look great, it doesn’t seem to matter which camera but the Nikon 1 series has a special nostalgic vibe for me, and at prices like you mentioned, they make perfect beaters.
The AF version of the 75mm f2.8 for the 645d is amazing if you haven't already tried it. There is a Made in Japan version that came with the 645N and a later not Made In Japan version that was sold along with the 645d and z. Both incredible lenses. I do find the manual lenses great but slightly tricky to focus compared to the AF.
Hi Ali, finaly you dont put the camera LX3, with adapter for 18mm. You sales this camera? because in some video you make a lot of amazing photos with this camera. Thanks for this emotive video of summer.!!!! Kiss from Mallorca Island.
I’m not sure what changed, but the audio from the last video to this one is night and day! What mic did you shift to? Or did your mixing change? Your voice sounds so bright and cute now!
I still somehow haven't tried IR with my Quattro. I've been scared to mess with one of my favorite cameras but one day I will. But regarding the G1 and G2, if you have the filter you can use it on literally any camera so long as you have a the right filter and adapter so the answer is yes :)
I’ve run the gambit of cameras too, and landed on the original Canon 5D. I use an Olympus 58mm f1.2 and their 100mm f2.0 lenses. I’ve never found anything with a better look, and I’ve shot D700, Leica M8, M9, M240. People are caught up in megapixels but Ai will make the megapixel war useless. If you have 1 winning shot out of 50 then you can easily upscale the image for your purpose. There are niche applications where you need insane detail but that’s a very small percentage of the market.
I might just sell my Gx9 now. As i seem to go for my gx800, gm1 and Lx7 for the portability. Thanks for this! Definitely do not need the latest and the greatest to take amazing photos ♥️
I love Nikon 1 mark 1. Great camera. The 10-30 is terrible and had a defect. The primes are nice. Just wish they had a aperture Ring. The v3 had a defect? Aperture block? Flux capacitor?
Many Nikon 1 lenses have aperture defects, and Nikon will no longer repair them, but there is a guy in Taiwan who replaces the faulty plastic gears with metal ones that will last.
Always look forward to your videos. Glad you have the cameras you want to use. Of course my selection of bodies will differ from yours. As my mother use to say, “That’s what makes horse racing.” I am not a tiny sensor kind of guy. I have a Lumix FZ200. It is a super zoom with a constant 2.8 aperture. Turns out Lumix was able to accomplish this feat by using a smaller than 1” sensor. I suppose with AI the files can be enhanced so one can print large images. I am fixated on APSC and M43 bodies. I have two 43s bodies, the E1 and E300. I have two zoom lenses but can’t find any other of those lenses. I recently unearthed an Olympus 8080. Had the 5050 and it is hiding now. Both were popular in the day but see so seldom for sale these days. I have to get organized! I have several bodies as I don’t sell my cameras. The thing is I misplace the batteries and their chargers. I’m labeling and bought a plastic organizer with several draws to solve this issue. Except for the Olympus, thank goodness my bodies all use SD cards. Speaking of SD cards, I have a new game to play. I have some 1 and 2 GB cards. I use them and make believe I am using film. I’m going to the Pride parade in three hours. I will take 5-800 pictures today. I love this parade! This is no time to display any discipline. For a walk on the street knowing I can on make 20 or 36 images forces me to be disciplined. Sometimes it is good to have this discipline so I bring home substantially less images when I return home. As a street shooter I am happy with ~2% of my images. Either I didn’t capture the moment or what I thought was an interesting moment turns out not to be. One never knows. I try not to chimp so I am excited to see what treasures I created when I return home. Have fun with your summer bodies and lenses. Your daughter has no idea of all the images that await her when she is older. Here is a thought. A photographer who introduced me to video said what he wouldn’t give to have recordings of his daughter when she was five or eight. If that is the case, I would encourage you to take more video clips of your family. Unfortunately the bodies you are attracted to are less than stellar when it comes to video bye and bye. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
I love that SD card game. Limitations are where the fun happens! And I do thankfully take a lot of videos of my girls and keep them on drives. I just rarely share that stuff here but they already enjoy watching them. We screen them on the TV just like the old days of patching a camcorder to play back :)
Hello, Hadn't viewed your videos for quite a while. Too busy chasing rabbits. Boy! Love that new D2x but sure is heavy, now what lenses does it work best with? Hmmm, what is that sound? Alll the other cameras want to play too? Where has the time gone? I appreciate the honesty of your journey. Thanks
IR is better shot with an adapeted camera. I bought my full spectrum converted olympus EP2-L for £85 on Ebay, and a 850 & 720nm filter for £40. Shooting with full spectrum means that there is zero light loss and you can shoot with higher shutter speeds.
Thank you! I used a Sony FX30 with some vintage glass and graded in FilmConvert. While I did use a bit more of an entry level cinema camera, I'm convinced this could be done with a cheap hybrid camera. The combo of old imperfect lenses and FilmConvert really helps give footage this vibe.
I had the same feeling about simplifying my gear. I am going on a family trip with multiple family members & I wanted to make it easy for photography. I got an Olympus EM10 II & since I already have some of their really good small prime lenses it was a good choice. I also have the Pentax 645Z, which I love, but it is not going with me!
Those Olympus M43 cameras are hard to beat. My EM5iii still remains one of my favorite cameras, though I no longer own it. But it was a perfect travel companion.
Excellent video from a seasoned photographer with gems of wisdom throughout - thank you!! Wouldn't image stabilization help with infrared on the Canon G9? I can get about 1/5 of a second easily without blur at night on Fuji XC15-45 OIS but I haven't tried it with a 720nm filter yet in daytime. Just asking and I dunno since it's foreign territory to me.
Thank you so kindly for the nice words and yes, that stabilization is a great point. I can't say I know the answer as just like you, this is all foreign to me as well but I'll report back what I learn!
Funny that you made this video now as I sit here with my Uncle's SX-70 gifted to me many years ago, now totally refurbished and updated by Retrospekt. After a long journey and many cameras (that I still love), I've found balance. I like the immediacy of digital, but don't gravitate to the clean look and tire of doing post work. I love the look of film, but even when I did my own developing, the gap from pressing the shutter to seeing the image was too much, I'm impatient in my "old age". I love squares and have shot Polaroid seriously since 2008, but the film was dicey for years and all of my SX-70's were "quirky" to say the least. It wasn't until I refurbed this SX-70 next to me that it all came together. Yeah, $300 was a lot, but the balance of how (not, but) instant, the look of the film (Reclaimed Blue and BW600) and now how accurate the camera is has given me a balance I've been looking for. The Leica M240 has been sitting in its bag for longer than it ever has, and the Canon S90 and even the Ricoh GRD IV (my fav street camera by far) get used less, even when I travel because of the SX-70. As with the seasons, this too will probably change a bit, but oh what wonders we will capture along the way.
That is so wonderful and actually very similar to how I feel about the Nikon 1 V3! Is it the best camera? No. But does it do what I want it to in a way that pleases me both experientially and in output? Yes, in spades.
Camera is just a tool to help you shape your creativity. I am still using large format film cameras, and don't feel that I have to spend £6000 ( UK prices ) for an M11 to be able to photograph, even though I do have Leica M film cameras.
I have always liked photography and always had a camera(s) normally budget cameras as the money was needed for family food etc. When I retired I saw old 2nd hand cameras for sale, cameras that had peaked my interest when new, but, which at that time were well outside of my price range. I watched what they were actually selling for and if i could get one for a lot less. I would buy it, "play" with it for a while and then sell it on. So far after 13 years my camera fund is at + £700. If a camera becomes a "keeper" I buy it from myself at cost. I seem to be getting more keepers. There are two reasons. I have gone down the odd rabbit hole, foveon sensors for example. Also I am getting old and as friends die it tends to trigger a "Oh f it, you can't take it with you so i will keep this one" Re IR photography don't forget the Sigma SDs have a removable IR folter. A camera I am enjoying at the moment is the Light L16. With the last iteration of the firmware/software it is a very competent and fun.
I enjoyed your video and like your photography philosophy!! I had the Nikon1 and regret selling it. If photographers carefully would have exercised control in spending money on cameras and gear they would have been richer. I have been downsizing my cameras and gear. Due to my medical situation with tremors and prostate cancer I have changed my photography habits. Actually I have started using older compact digicams. They're easier to carry and I'm trying to use my Pixel 7Pro cell phone camera less because it seems that I always have the habit of checking texts, emails, and social media when I'm taking photos with the Pixel. Best wishes, Duane
Thank you for sharing Duane and I couldn't agree with you more. Those compact digicams are not only a blast but can really deliver and I love using mine as well. And I truly appreciate not having the feeling of endless connectivity and just leaving my phone in the car. All the best to you.
I have a Nikon One, the v2 version. I bailed on the system when the v3 went to a mini SD card. I also have the same lenses you have. The zooms are stellar. They were German made, rock sold, and did splendid work with the one inch sensor. Now, as to the latter. I've had no problem with it. It takes wonderful photos. I don't think it's to blame for the Nikon One's failure in the market. I feel confident about this because of what Sony has been able to do with the same sensor. Sony has not been shy about exploiting that sensor. For instance, the RX100 series has been a huge success. No, the problem for Nikon was not the sensor or the lenses, it was that they didn't know how to market the camera, how to exploit its form factor or how place it in its own lineup. It would be several years for Nikon to figure out how to enter the mirrorless market with other sensor sizes and form factors. The company was on the point of failure before they finally introduced the Z series -- and that series was a jumble of compromises and disappointments. It wasn't until the second round of the Z series and, most recently, the Z8, that Nikon could make marketable mirrorless cameras for an audience whose expectations had in the meantime been tutored so successfully by Sony. I cling to my Nikon One v2 because of its utility as a nature tool. The reach of the zoom you showed is 810mm eqv and the combination could hardly be more compact in the field. For me the Nikon One v2 was a success, despite Nikon's worst efforts.
I didn't even know about these cameras until a couple years ago and it didn't stick the first time I used them because I had a J camera and really missed the viewfinder experience but with the V lineup, I have been really enamored. I'd love to add a V2 to my bag one day, but for now I am still trying to strip the collection down more :)
@@StephenStrangways You are entirely right. My apologies. The Nikon 1 70-300mm (eqv 189-810mm) was made in Japan; the Nikon 1 10-100mm (eqv. 27-270mm) was made in China; and the Nikon 1 32mm (eqv 86mm) was made in Thailand. Again, my apologies for the error and thanks to Stephen for correcting me.
are you familiar with the Panasonic L1 (aka Leica Digilux 3)? I've seen quite a lot about that camera recently, seems to be super rare but also super unique (basically DSLR with a rangefinder style viewfinder. A bit like a better looking Olympus E-330) Was kind of tempted to pick one up but I dunno if that's really worth it (also, I'm eally glad you picked up a D700, it's been my go to for I don't know how many years and it nerver dissapointed me. I have newer stuff nowadays for when I need more modern specs, but I always end up going back to the D700 at one point or another :)
It's not "a bit" like an Olympus E-330, it shares a significant number of parts, including the sensor and entire mirror chamber/viewfinder assembly. It just lacks the secondary live view sensor.
Not gonna lie, the Sony A6000 with the small TTArtisan 27mm autofocus lens is so small and light, it’s liberating to operate with only one hand. This is coming from the Leica M240 and Panasonic G9. Been eyeing the Nikon 1 and Pentax Q system to just have around with a small prime.
Haha. I've been there, but a few years back I realised buying expensive cameras is a fool's game. Now, I don't buy ANY new cameras at all! I just cycle through interesting used cameras, all pretty cheap, that interest me, then I sell them on (often for what I paid for them, or a bit more) and buy another one. So, a couple of weeks ago, I found a very, very cheap Lumix GH4 + 14-45mm kit lens for $120, in good working condition. I fancied it to try out some of the really good video capabilities, alongside stills. It's good for using with my vintage glass, too.I did, also, decide that I wasn't going to buy any more cameras that don't have some form of viewfinder! I am also on the lookout for a cheap Oly EM5i and a Sigma SD9 (to whip out the IR filter for some IR photography, just one screw to remove!) The Nikon V3 is a pretty good camera. The 1" sensor performs really well. I bought a Wasabi battery recently, too! They are the best third party batteries, IMO.
Hi Ali, another great vid. I always drool over Leica's, Contax's and Rolleiflex's and always had this idea that if I use a Leica M6 or a Rolleiflex or some other iconic super expensive camera then I'll magically turn into a "photographer". It's a ridiculous concept and sadly it's fuelled by some youtubers and influencers whose whole graft is to flog a certain brand. Honestly, I sometimes feel dirty when I post a pic on instagram and then write the camera and film or the gear used to get the shot. It doesn't matter. If I posted a phone pic or a pic from one of my old 35mm slr cameras or one of my DSLR's it's irrelevant. People get way too hung up on overpriced and unnecessary gear. But having said that I'll probably spend my lunch break drooling over Pentax LX's and Nikon F's and Leica Q's on ebay....lusting over cameras is a hard habit to kick...haha!
Have been photographing for about 50 years now, and never ever owned or used a Nikon. Recently I decided I would like to try a digital camera with an EVF and found a Nikon 1 V1 with 10-30mm standard zoom on Marktplaats (second hand 'eBay' here in the Netherlands) for a nice enough price to take the jump. But the lens wasn't up to scratch, as its aperture isn't working. Upon further online investigation, I learned that quite a few of these Nikon 1 lenses all have the same problem: one small aperture cogwheel deteriorates over time, rendering the lens kinda useless. So much for my first try of Nikon :-/
Oof I am so sorry to hear! Not a great first experience to be sure. The lenses definitely have issues over time unfortunately. I just keeping my fingers crossed.
Woohoo Nikon 1 baby! Of course you got the expensive one with all the trimmings 😊 ... cheaper than a leica! (If you have the ft1 adapter I greatly enjoyed sticking f1.4 af-s nikkors on it!)
BTW, do you have a different insta that's not just OMTC that focuses on what you love to shoot? I'd love to see the frames that are you creative outlet and are special to you. :)
Ive been wanting to replace my Nikonos 35mm dive camera with the Nikon 1 series underwater camera. The Nikonos is bomb proof and goes with me to the beach and on kayaking trips but I'm not into film much currently. Cant say no to loving a D700! I think Nikons have always had super solid colors out of camera from almost any generation of their digital line, hard to go wrong really.
I agree with you on the Nikon colors. They're really solid and natural. And I have had my eye on that Nikon 1 underwater camera. It looks so fun! If I weren't in pairing down mode I'd probably have picked one up as well. Best of luck!
In reality, the AW1 is barely waterproof. It works perfectly fine in the rain, but don't actually submerge it, especially with the age of the seals on all of them now, or you're going to kill it. If you really want to take it underwater, put it in a housing, which you can easily test, and if it happens to leak a little bit, the camera will be fine with a little bit of water.
Nice video but Im guessing the next video is you filming which cameras you will be selling and deciding to keep most of them when it really comes down to it. Or if you DO actually sell off your expensive cameras, you'll just put that money towards new ones 😀 I sold my Nikon 1 J1 for pennies on the dollar and had to package it with the 18.5mm f/1.8 just to get rid of it. Basically gave that $200 lens away for free. Nobody wants that system any longer it seems and the image quality was just OK. Id go with a M43 setup if I wanted small, light and cheap.
You probably have as much sunk in perishable or cheap cameras as you do in Leica, which keep theur value or go up. The M8 has gone up so this is a good time to sell, however
Yes! I have read up on that quite a bit but have yet to give it a go. The physical removal of the IR filter spooks me because I love the Quattro so much but I hear it's easy peezy.
The 10mm 18.5mm 10-30mm 30-110 are all susceptible to a tiny gear wheel falling off in the aperture control system (apparently relatively easy to fix 🤷🏼♀️)
When you have smth expensive and it doesn’t bring you satisfaction anymore you trying smth cheap and simple to challenge yourself. I’ve just got Pentax q7 and 06 telephoto having Samsung aps-c camera and most of glasses for it
We’re so alike with our camera ethics! I love the freedom of being able to use ANY camera and be creative and enjoy the process! I cannot remember the last time I used my “fancy” full frame cameras for anything other than filming myself (because the AF is less annoying hahah)

by picking the stuff that I already have after a long time I feel refreshed and encourage to take even more photos.
Thanks for sharing your perspective around the topic!
That's awesome to hear and I feel the same way. Sometimes a bit of distance from a camera makes it exciting to pick up again down the road.
Great video! Where do you get your film scanned? Thanks!
Great video - enjoying this perspective that leans less on review and more a convo on what you’re currently using 😊
That is super nice to hear. Thanks for the feedback.
thanks for great video :-) so happy to se the Fuji GS645 and the little Olympus E400. Especially the Fuji because I havent used mine enough and was thinking - should I sell it rather than it collecting dust. But now I feel like bringing it for my summer vacation to northern Jutland and see what I can do with it in that beautiful land of high skies and long sandy beaches.
How wonderful! I hope you enjoy picking it up and getting reacquainted with it
Hi Ali, I need a recommendation for a point and shoot (with CCD sensor hopefully) that I can afford. I have big dslr’s but you can’t always take them. I mostly shoot buildings. Got and camera ideas? Thanks so much!
What about Canon 5d classic?
Enjoyed your honest video. Loved it! My kit Nikon N90 film; Z50 and 2 Nikon 1 V1.
Not only did you inspire me to watch until the end, you also inspired me to go for a walk in the forest to do some camera testing 🤓 agfa optima sensor 1535 baybeee,

YAY! That is wonderful!
In terms of infrared have you not tried removing the ir filter from your sigma quattro h. Easily done (and replaced). Then put an IR filter on the lens and you are good to go.
The Nikon 1 J3 is an amazing camera! The Nikon 1 system is what started me in photography. The 18.5mm lens is my favorite!
The J series in the line up are wonderful and seemingly better value as well. Quite a few more of those around on resale sights and bundled for cost. Totally agree that the 18.5 is special ✨
My one hinder with the J and S series was lack of view finder. I personally enjoy a view finder experience. But still, I absolutely loved them.
I just picked up a J1 with the 18.5mm as a gift. Maybe I keep it..
@@musa7606 keep it!
@@musa7606 oh wow! Give it a go and see what you think :)
I’m doing well fixing lens cover things using those blue spudgers. I have opened up 4 to make them work fine. I think I have a system.
G9 with infra red filter..you are so creative..i have a really long way to go..
Enjoy summer 2023 ! 👍✌🙏
Your photos always looks so good. For fun, do you have like an estimate of sortof how many photos you have collected over the years?
I SO get that whole "over-extended" in gear thing: I was in debt (and had just retired from bus driving) with too many lenses, three cameras...it was nuts. Very difficult to choose which to keep, but in the end, of course, one can make great photos with any camera. Eyes. Brain. Instinct. Still dicking around thinking which to keep, but I'll figure it out.
I wish all videos I watch of talking heads have this backdrop. The plants somehow are so pleasing to the eyes
Ha! Glad you liked it!
Great content as always! Im trimming down my collection as well.
I fell in love with the 1d in a large part because of you, mine has some issues though... I will never get rid of that camera. That would be the exception to buying a new body for me, finding one in better shape.
Oh wow! The unicorn! I hope the issues get resolved or you find a second unicorn. Thanks for watching!
AHHH! I am so glad you're enjoying the C740! Bloody great fun that camera is.
I had a Nikon ! J1 as an EDC for a year or so and really enjoyed it. I will choose 10 inexpensive cameras over 1 expensive one every time.
Love your videos and especially this one. Was this video and the family trip video all shot on the Nikon 1 V3 with the 10-100 lens?
Cheers
Taking pictures with a plant would be magical 🤯🤩📸
Next in my DIY list! 😂
In case youre not already aware, the Sony f717 (and f828) is extremely easy to use as a proper infrared camera, using an earth magnet to shift away the hot mirror. Slap that R72 filter on it and you're good to go!
Yes I have heard that! Just haven't yet tried that or the IR capabilities of my Sigma SD Quattro H. So many options!
Yeah! I have the f828 and it is great fun.
Right now I am having a ball using newly acquired Nikons. A D50 and a D200. Both have CCD sensors and deliver beautiful color. Retro is fun.
Retro really IS fun. Enjoy!
what camera are you using to film this video? love the dreaminess
I haven't tried that one!
Hi Ali, finaly you dont put the camera LX3, with adapter for 18mm. You sales this camera? because in some video you make a lot of amazing photos with this camera. Thanks for this emotive video of summer.!!!! Kiss from Mallorca Island.
Thank you! The LX3 stays because it is my all time favorite digicam :)
I’m not sure what changed, but the audio from the last video to this one is night and day! What mic did you shift to? Or did your mixing change? Your voice sounds so bright and cute now!
Been doing infrared with the SD quattro. It's fun. Can you that with a g1? Too?
I still somehow haven't tried IR with my Quattro. I've been scared to mess with one of my favorite cameras but one day I will. But regarding the G1 and G2, if you have the filter you can use it on literally any camera so long as you have a the right filter and adapter so the answer is yes :)
I’ve been shooting a 1 J1 + 10mm f/2.8 which I got from Goodwill recently and think that the Nikon 1 color space is really nice
As they say, the best camera is the one you have with you :) Keep what you love and let go of the rest. Thanks for watching!

I love that SD card game. Limitations are where the fun happens! And I do thankfully take a lot of videos of my girls and keep them on drives. I just rarely share that stuff here but they already enjoy watching them. We screen them on the TV just like the old days of patching a camcorder to play back :)
Wasabi going hard on all the digicam channels 😂. I like that beginning song. Forgot who sang it.
love the mood
Hello, Hadn't viewed your videos for quite a while.
Too busy chasing rabbits.
Boy! Love that new D2x but sure is heavy, now what lenses does it work best with? Hmmm, what is that sound? Alll the other cameras want to play too?
Where has the time gone?
I appreciate the honesty of your journey.
Thanks
IR is better shot with an adapeted camera. I bought my full spectrum converted olympus EP2-L for £85 on Ebay, and a 850 & 720nm filter for £40. Shooting with full spectrum means that there is zero light loss and you can shoot with higher shutter speeds.
love the Nikon1 system, so much looked down upon, but if used proper, its a gem, v3 and j5 are the best of the versions
I've truly been surprised by how much I love them!
The clip from 0:25 to 0:29 looks so lovely. How did you grade them? And what camera did you use?
Thank you! I used a Sony FX30 with some vintage glass and graded in FilmConvert. While I did use a bit more of an entry level cinema camera, I'm convinced this could be done with a cheap hybrid camera. The combo of old imperfect lenses and FilmConvert really helps give footage this vibe.
@@OneMonthTwoCameras Thank you for the info. Vintage glasses are amazing.
Appreciated this video. Are the Sigma cameras gone? I’m curious because those are the cameras I’m attached to in my collection.
The sigmas will be with me forever :)
Camera is just a tool to help you shape your creativity. I am still using large format film cameras, and don't feel that I have to spend £6000 ( UK prices ) for an M11 to be able to photograph, even though I do have Leica M film cameras.
Wow. I had the same epiphany… currently using a refurbed Oly EM1.3
One of the greatest cameras of all time ❤️🔥
I have always liked photography and always had a camera(s) normally budget cameras as the money was needed for family food etc.
Also I am getting old and as friends die it tends to trigger a "Oh f it, you can't take it with you so i will keep this one"
Re IR photography don't forget the Sigma SDs have a removable IR folter.
Best wishes,
Duane
Thank you for sharing Duane and I couldn't agree with you more. Those compact digicams are not only a blast but can really deliver and I love using mine as well. And I truly appreciate not having the feeling of endless connectivity and just leaving my phone in the car. All the best to you.
Thank you for awesome and honest video 🥰
My pleasure always 😊
Nikon 1 lenses are not German-made.
A bit like a better looking Olympus E-330)
Was kind of tempted to pick one up but I dunno if that's really worth it
(also, I'm eally glad you picked up a D700, it's been my go to for I don't know how many years and it nerver dissapointed me. I have newer stuff nowadays for when I need more modern specs, but I always end up going back to the D700 at one point or another :)
That’s so awesome to hear about your experience with the D700! And of course, I do have a Panasonic L1 😂 I’ve been meaning to review it for ages.
It's not "a bit" like an Olympus E-330, it shares a significant number of parts, including the sensor and entire mirror chamber/viewfinder assembly. It just lacks the secondary live view sensor.
Did you end up using that V3 or did you get distracted?!
Keeping the Leica that rhymes with "XL"?
Oh yes. Thankfully it has a defect that eliminates its value and excuses me from having to sell it :P
I am also on the lookout for a cheap Oly EM5i and a Sigma SD9 (to whip out the IR filter for some IR photography, just one screw to remove!)
The Nikon V3 is a pretty good camera.
I love my Nikon 1 camera. It’s my worst performing camera, but most enjoyable.
Woohoo Nikon 1 baby! Of course you got the expensive one with all the trimmings 😊 ... cheaper than a leica!

Great video. Thanks.

I've definitely found myself in the ebay/youtube gear hole recently, thanks for a different perspective.
My pleasure. It's definitely a shiny object and experience but unplugging and using what one has can be super rewarding as well.
I love M43 but I have to say, I have been really damn happy with the images and for me, I prefer it. In fact I sold my Olympus EM5iii :)
Please redo the Olympus e300 😊
Where are you selling?
I've mostly gone to Facebook Marketplace in an attempt to sell locally but if not, then it goes to Ebay. I'm omtc_cameras on there.
You probably have as much sunk in perishable or cheap cameras as you do in Leica, which keep theur value or go up. The M8 has gone up so this is a good time to sell, however
Thanks!

The E-400 was only sold in select European countries, like the UK and only for a short time.
Yes! It's definitely a rare one and I was really happy to find mine in the UK.
@@OneMonthTwoCameras Absolutely, Ebay UK is the hunting ground to get one of them.
I think you said you had the sigma sdqh that is a great camera for infa red
Yes! I have read up on that quite a bit but have yet to give it a go. The physical removal of the IR filter spooks me because I love the Quattro so much but I hear it's easy peezy.
Your video is beautiful as always.
So kind, thank you. Really glad you enjoyed it :)
To answer THAT question, “Yes, too many times!”
The only short coming of the 1 Nikon system is the lack of F1.8 prime lens..
There's the 18.5mm f/1.8 and the 32mm f/1.2
@@StephenStrangways ah yes.. I’ve overlooked that, thanks~
The Nikon D700 is more than enough to sustain anybody's creativity, as far as photography is concerned.
Just dont get the original non-VR 10-30mm! The apeture blades ALWAYS stick. Get the VR EZ 10-30.
Jeez I am seriously so stoked to see a Nikon 1 camera talked about lol. I had the entire J series except the J5 and both the S series 1's.
Tatar is so awesome and that you for the 10-30mm hot tip!
I've used an og 10-30 for years and it's been great (it also does have vr) ...they do definitely break tho
