Just to clarify, I'm aware there have been other games called The Bard's Tale more recently, but they've all been spin-offs which only had the right to use the name - this is the first game to exist as a direct sequel in the same continuity as the originals since 1988's The Bard's Tale III.
Sadly conceptionally BT3 was better. The one with the character that constantly argued with his narrator. That idea carried it past a few shortcomings. I might be biased though because i don't like RPG that play like Xcom.
Many A True Nerd I listened to a podcast yesterday with Brian Fargo as the guest, he says ea had the licence to this game and he struggled for years to acquire it back so he could finish the bards tale series
I usually try to resist complaining about Jon missing something, but if you you can kill an enemy in two hits and have a party member who doesn't use an action point when he kills an enemy, attack with him second
The graphics shown for the original Bard's tale were actually from the updated new version(which also added many quality of life features). Though animated they were far cruder in the 1988 days of the C64. Still for its day Bards Tale 3 was a masterpiece.

No games made in between unless you count "Fountain of Dreams" by EA but it was not an official sequel and Brian Fargo and Interplay had nothing to do with it. Also, the Bards Tale games were made by Interplay/Inxile. Brian Fargo and his guys have brought us so many good games. Thank god they couldn't get the rights to Wasteland from EA to make its sequel because we got Fallout in 1997. Wasteland 3 is coming next year also.
Enclave General nope, bards tale 3 and the original wasteland were released the same year, 1988, however wasteland 2 was released in 2014 and bards tale 4 was released this year in 2018. Both exceptionally long times but bards tale is the clear winner.
Jon, rotation is important in these games. When you need to maximize damage you want to have someone else hit a baddie, then when you know the Trow can kill someone THEN have the Trow attack that way you get more than 3 AP in one turn.

Oh wow! I still remember how much motion sickness I got from Bards Tale 3. I’d spent so much money on it at the time and I found it unplayable. After that I gave up on RPGs, apart from Legacy: Realm of Terror and Balders Gate. Sad days... but also Happy Days!

Jon, since your playing this Inxile game, have you considered playing Wasteland 2 Directors Cut? As you may know, Wasteland 1 is the forefather of Fallout since they couldn't get the rights to make Wasteland 2 at the time, so they made Fallout.
And the cute wee ones at festivals are rubbish, they were designed to be big thwonking clubs disguised as walking sticks or canes to get around the English prohibition on weapons Used to be symbolic and made of sacred oak, but the english cut those down so they started making them of thornwood and covering them in black pitch. I'm surprised Jon didn't know the history of the one weapon specifically formulated to hit english in the head. lol
In a situation where EVERY physical attack does an additional 5 damage dealing 2 damage (+5 from Razor) to 3 enemies (Caltrops) is probably more useful than doing 5 damage (+5 from Razor) to 1 enemy (Loose Arrow)

Is this game available on the Commodore 64, that's the only platform I will play it on. :) I never played the original, but watched my brother play it. I was a bit young to understand the game. I did play #2 and #3 for a bit, but as always with games of that era, I'd get stuck and unable to finish. Same with Wasteland. If only the internet was around back then (technically it was, but not for someone without a modem for said C64). Not to mention the battles could get fairly tough, I never could get past the Scorpitron in Wasteland. And I was too lazy to use graph paper to map the areas, I'd just go off of my brother's maps.
Wow Jon, you made a fun game look really boring... you unlocked fun abilities and then didn't use any of it... you just spammed the same few things over and over again. Did you try using Sanctuary to heal your companion?? No. Did you use Shrink, which you saved up magic especially for? No. Even though it would have reduced the incoming damage better than your shield could block... I'm disappointed. It's very rare I don't enjoy a video of yours, but this could have been so much more...
I have a guy that gets a free action when he gets a kill. Guess I will order my attacks so he never gets the kill.
And that is why I sometimes envy the gaming channels - they get to play so many games prior to the release.
