In one of the quests, you take down multiple ships that are to contain and protect the remaining human civilisation. I'm not to get to the details, but yeah, this is pretty much it
pretty sure the true ending where humanity goes extinct is the worst it gets. if your wondering what I mean by this, coral augmentation is done to the strongest men and still some generations only survive 10% of the time such as 621. In coral release you do this to all of humanity and it is implied humanity is now extinct and a new human coral hybrid is born
