My family moved from Windsor back in the early 70's. It was a beautiful little city back then. I can remember Fast Eddie's Pinball, The N&D Supermarket, The Ponderosa, Pop Shoppe and Burger King....Red Barn, H.Salt Fish & Chips and TBQ's and The Other Place restaurants...Devonshire Mall, The Palace movie theatre downtown...It was quite idyllic back then.

Grew up in Windsor, left in 2003 for BC. Same neighborhoods all got the same rep 20 years later. The villages of riverside were called Fort Apache back in the 80,s Westside, has always had a reputation. East of downtown west of downtown rough reputation too. Lived on elm and Wyandotte in 1986, had glue sniffers hanging around the front store daily. All in all have good memories of Windsor lots of good blue collar people that will give you the shirt of their back 💙 😉

Small world, my dad bought his house on Elm near Wyandotte in 1986. He was the first house behind Lip's. He sold that house to The owner of Lip's bcuz he wanted to make more parking for his business. He bought it for 22 thousand and sold it for 100 thousand and he bought a another house on Riberty Rd

I was born and raised in Windsor. I left in my early 20's to the States, and I am so glad. It's heartbreaking to see the decline, the poverty, addiction and death due to overdose. I can't even bring myself to spend more than a day there anymore. 😢

When the Devonshire Mall opened, Ouellette Avenue died, no more lovely stores like Smiths or Bartlett, McDonald and Gow or Birks, 'Canada's Gifthouse'. I don't visit anymore because the place depresses me. There are cities within cities and a lack of Canadian culture (YES, we have one!). I was raised on California Avenue and attended Forster. The streets were beautiful and the people nice and law abiding. What happened????? Best not to answer

I came there and hung out a few times from Detroit and I’m from Philly, to me it was so much more tranquility. I mean I went out and a fire truck was out and that was like a big thing. I went to I believe 2 hoods and went to a deli walking by myself. However I saw some unsavories in the parking lot by Capris Pizza unfortunately this stuff was just normal to me living in the US so I just ignored it.

Ryan, your talks on this website are invaluable to many people. Thank you for that.
You say you wonder why the west end became such a poor area to live in. Well, as a lifetime resident in her 70's in Windsor and Essex County, i have a couple of ideas why.
One is kind of silly. In the past, people who got rich or very well off kept moving east and more east of Oullette because they could go to work in the morning without the sun blinding them on the way and they could drive home with the sun at their backs.
And even more recent, in the 80's that sewage treatment plant that promised no smells or wafts of crap would envelope the area because it would be state of the art, blah, blah, blah. Well, they let the plant become over used by letting too many residents and businesses plug into it. It's horrible on certain days, when the wind is just right.
You are doing a good service and hope you can be truly successful, thank you again.

Ford city kinda reminds me of the junction in Toronto, took yrs to turn it around but some bold people moved there, many as it was all they could afford and it is sort of gentrified now. So can a spot like that turn, yes, it takes yrs but love to see folks trying at least. Have to say though, I’d have to get the property quite cheap to invest there. Really any of these spots. Not a great situation for

What a change as they too have their homeless, druggies and so forth as many cities have their issues. My thoughts are to move back to Windsor as that place is more like "home" to me and I know or have known people in every area you mentioned. My previous home was on Westminster Blvd, loved it there. Ryan, if you go to Toronto, Brampton, Durham Region the crime level is terrifying, homelessness is rampant...I moved from one of those cities to Windsor...with my 3 boys. Our major beefs with Windsor after getting here are:
      * We feel as though we have moved 4 and half hours from civilization.
      * There are no ski hills in windsor..my boys love to ski.( These are the things we didn't think about before buying here)
      * The city seems "dead" to us as it lacks entertainment and is miles away from all major attractions. Very boring.
      * The people are not friendly which does not make for good neighbours.
      * The so called highway is a 2 lane road with some of the worst drivers I have ever seen......
I could go on and on , but all I'm saying is the way in which you presented the information was a bit off.

@@trishjackson6679 Torontonian here. The crime truly is not that bad. Been in and around Toronto the majority of my 28 years, and have ZERO issues with crime here in Toronto.
SURE, it happens, but not nearly as bad as people like to point out. When you have 6-7 million in the GTA, you're going to have crime, but the reality is that the crime is very targeted; having lived actually in the city on and off for different reasons for 4-5 years, I can tell you the crime is non-existent in many places.

      @SoulShines4Music 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

@@trishjackson6679 - Were you able to do any research on the area before you moved down here? I ask because Windsor and Essex-County is one of the flatest areas geographically speaking in all of Ontario. If you Googled "ski resorts in southern Ontario" you'd see that the area has none because of its geography and also because of its climate. Windsor is the hottest city in all of Canada because of its extreme southern vantage and although winters can be quite cold, they can also be quite mild and we certainly get nowhere near the snowfall that the rest of the province gets.
As for being "4 and a half hours from civilization" I think that's a big exaggeration. The closest large city from Windsor in Ontario is London which is just under 2hrs away and Toronto is 3hrs and 40min away. That's hardly "4 and a half hours from civilization" especially when you factor in Windsor's close proximity to Detroit, which is the second largest city in the American midwest. Being a border city with Detroit is one of Windsor's greatest assets. You can find all the civilization you could ever ask for in Detroit and it's all just a short drive across the river from Windsor. Major league sports, rock concerts, professional Broadway theatre productions etc., all of it extremely easy to access when you live in Windsor.
As for "people not being friendly", that is entirely subjective on your part. I have lived in different parts of Windsor over the last 20 years and have always been on great terms with my neighbours. That being said I do understand that if you moved down here and didn't already have family and friends in the area then meeting new people can be hard. However that would be the case for anyone who moves to a new city or town where they don't know anybody else. If you're a religious person you can always meet new people through your church, synagogue, temple or mosque. You can also volunteer for a charity and meet new people there. Even something as simple as joining a local bowling, card or games league can introduce you to new people. There are friendly people around you everywhere and a stranger is just a person you haven't met yet.
I do 100% agree with you on Windsor drivers. Windsor does indeed have some of the *worst drivers* I've ever seen in either Canada or the US. It's ridiculous and also extremely stressful, especially during rush hour.
All in all I'm sorry that Windsor hasn't quite met with your expectations and I do hope the city grows on you and gets better for you the longer you live here. 🙂
