THIS WILL BE A NICE UPGRADE FROM THE STOCK SHOCK. NOTHING WRONG WITH THE ORIGINAL...JUST WANTED THE LOCKOUT FEATURE. THIS IS A DIRECT FIT AT 184 X 44
I REUSED THE TOP MOUNTING HARDWARE FROM THE SUNTOUR IT SLIDED RIGHT OUT WITH A LITTLE BIT OF CAREFUL FIRM PRESSURE FROM AN ALLEN KEY. THE MOUNTING HARDWARE THAT I NEEDED FOR THIS IS CURRENTLY UNAVAILABLE.
THERE IS NOTHING NEEDED FOR THE BOTTOM EYE. YOU CAN REUSE THE ORIGINAL SPACERS. YOU WILL NEED TO REMOVE THE PRE INSTALLED BUSHING FROM THE LOWER. THIS WILL REQUIRE A SPECIAL TOOL THAT I DO NOT HAVE. YOU CAN TAKE IT TO YOUR LBS AND HAVE THEM REMOVE IT FOR YA. OR IF YOU HAVE A VICE AND SOME SOCKETS YOU COULD POTENTIALLY GET THIS OUT YOURSELF. JUST BE PATIENT AND TRY NOT TO BREAK ANYTHING.

this video is really helpful, I'm replacing the rear shock on my 2022 stance 29 2 with a fox float DPS, since I found out the Suntour shock wasn't designed for jumping the hard way, I was wondering If I would have to buy new mounting hardware but it is good to know that I can take it off the stock shock.
Thanks for the comment. It was nice to be able to reuse the spacers. Only issue I had was I didn’t have the tool to remove them from the stock shock. But was able to get it done at a bike shop.

Isn't it problematic removing the bottom bearing! Won't the metal on metal of the bolt to the eyelet be a problem long term?
I have the same bike in Black just picked it up from Roy’s Sheephead bay in Brooklyn N.Y. It was the last one in stock until they get the new shipment in May. If you are thinking about buying this bike 🚲 buy it now before it’s to late they won’t have it in stock.
Sweet! Enjoy it man! I think it’s a great bike out of the box. I’ve only made a couple of minor changes. Added the rockshox rear shock. Cut down the handle bar just a bit and added the dropper post.

Hey Matt, thanks for your helpful video tutorial! I've ordered the Monarch and am hoping to be able to get that big bearing out using a concrete anchor sleeve as seen in another YT video. Now that you've had the new shock on for a while, do you notice a big difference? Was it worth the upgrade? Does the lock-out work well? Thanks in advance for taking the time to answer, if you can.
Hey man! Thanks for the comment. I have noticed a difference in the smoothness of the rockshox vs the stock. It seems more responsive to smaller bumps too. The lockout was the main reason I wanted to upgrade and I can say that it indeed does a good job when in the lockout position. There is a slight bit of play when locked out but not much at all. You only notice it when you’re actually looking for it. When you’re riding around and have it locked out you wouldn’t be able to tell. Just like riding a hardtail!
@@MASHLEY69 Wow, that is so good to know. Sounds like it's the best of both worlds. Glad I made the right decision and jumped on the $150 price when I did. I guess I'll stop procrastinating the installation and get it done!

@@MASHLEY69 Hey Matt, so I brought the Rock Shox to my local bike shop for help removing the bottom bushing on it, but the guy warned me about removing it because he said it's meant to be used with the machine pressed bushings. Will this not fit in the Stance without removing it, and if not, do you think that not having that kind of bushing in there will cause faster wear and tear of the shock or performance issues? Thanks for more of your time, man!
@@joshuafleitas9916 hi josh, I’m not too sure. I mean the stock shock that came on it did not have a bushing. So I imagine it would be fine. I chose to not use it because it’s a direct fit without having to get new mounting bolt.
How much travel does the shock have? I can get them in 165 or 190

Hi there. I didn’t get too much time with that shock before I had to re home the bike. I sold it because I was moving and don’t want to take with me. But in the amount of time I did use it. I had no issues with it at all. It was very smooth and did everything I needed.

Yea so the dropper post I am using came off my Schwinn Axum DP. It’s the EXA FORM dropper I believe it has 125mm of travel. You can find these on Amazon for around 120 more or less sometimes I’ve seen them as low as $80ish.
I cant figure out how to get the bottom bolt out, does it just slide through or is it threaded?
I don’t have this bike anymore so I’m trying to remember. But I think there’s a nut on the drive side that needs removed. Once that’s off you should be able to slide the bottom bolt off. It might require a bit of persuasion depending on how long it’s been ridden due to all the dirt and gunk. Hope that helps.
Would you recommend going for the trance2021 29 3 instead?
It’s hard for me to say since I’m not too familiar with the trance. I’d say if your budget allows and you want those better components, I’d go for it. But for me the stance is pretty much enough. The only reason I upgraded the rear shock is I wanted to try something with a lock out.
what size frame and wheel is this? might just do the upgrade for the time being.
I no longer have this bike. But it was a medium frame , 29” wheels
Whats the BB width on the Stance ?
According to giant the bottom bracket width is around 86mm. I never did measure this and I no longer have the bike to verify. That’s just what I found from a quick search. Hope this helps 😊

@@MASHLEY69 I bought a couple Bafang mid drive motors that are 68-73mm BB was hoping this is,I have a Talon(73mmBB) I put a Bafang motor on & its awesome ,I have a Polygon T7 full susp. but the main triangle has the rear shock & battery wont fit so I seen the Stance & Ill be able to put the Battery in the main triangle,so it looks like I have to order a adaptor for the motor,I wanted to have everything ready for the install,this thing is gonna rip up the trails,anyways thanx again for the reply
Sounds awesome! Also have the T7 and you’re right the triangle is so small. I can barely fit a bottle in there. Good luck with the build.
Het Matt, What is the eye to eye on the new shock? Giant says 7.25 and I ordered the RL same eye to eye but it seems longer.
Mine is 7.25” it may seem longer due to maybe more or less pressure in either the new or old shock. But I’m pretty sure mine are a 1:1 match in terms of size.

What dropper post do you have I need one
I was using an exaform 30.9 dropper on the stance. 120mm of travel. Worked well for a decent price. Can be had for around $120 on Amazon.
