  • This week, Gareth Potts joins Stephen for a frame and a chat in Newcastle under Lyme. We chat about the big differences between pool vs snooker, whether cue sports should be in the Olympics and what it's like to play with Gareth's brother in law, Mark Selby! We think you're going to enjoy this one so leave a comment if you do. Also keep an eye out for the reverse fixture of this video in a few weeks, where Stephen takes Gareth on at pool!

Ken Doherty was still competitive on the snooker tour in 2013, and Hendry had only recently retired. Both former World Champions and hugely sucessful players. At one point around thd year 2000 Ken Doherty was provisionally ranked world number one. Hendry is one of the greatest Snooker players in the history of the game. Many of his peers were slightly suprised he retired when he did as although he was no longer the player he was, he was still playing at a very high level.

You know who'd make a great interviewee that I've just thought of? The Sheriff, Anthony Hamilton! I mean yeah, you'd lose the frame, that goes without saying, he's still insanely good even though he says he can't see properly...but that's one of the reasons I say he'd be great on the channel. He's had such a long career, such a good career (despite underachieving), his views on most issues make a lot of sense, and he seems a really intelligent person. Great character too. Anyway, thanks for this one Stephen and Gareth, fascinating to get an insight into the pool/Chinese pool world!

Comment on 8:50 "English 8 ball is the only cue sport in the world where the balls are different sizes":
Most 8 ball in Brazil is played with a cue ball larger than the object balls, which brings a completely different dynamic to the game. The reason for that is the system for retrieving the cue ball on coin-operated tables.

@@truthsayerq7264 Ask Selby if he could have made top 16 in snooker. I watch all Sports. Potts played with Appleton, Melling, Selby, and was probably the best. He chose another part, and is a legend in China after never having played on their tables. Hendry and many others went there and looked like donkeys. Including all US, Taiwan and Phillipino players. He set the standard in a sport the best Snooker players struggle with and almost never win against top 20 in China. There's empirical evidence and I actually ran tournaments in China. You're just a wanker.

@@Mydadisbiggerthanyourdad Sorry to blow your candle out. I have seen many players who have had an excellent amateur pedigree but failed to deliver when they turn pro. There is simply no guarantee to be a top 32 player.

@@gfdggdfgdgf 'Terrible' is a bit much. The worst he's ever done is mouthed off during matches. He's never actually hurt anyone. At most he's a shitty sportsman and a bit of a dick. Hendry has arguably already had someone much more morally dubious than Strickland on the show already in John Terry.

I used to play in the Stockport pool world rules and Stockport rules and had Gareth at our Presentation night in 2014 (i think) ...some of the players in that league are incredible. Phil and Rob Clarke, Neil the Washer Robinson, Doyle bros, Aaron & Ryan Davies, The Legend The Predator to name just a few. I remember Phil Clarke playing snooker for the first time and hitting a 35 break half pissed! Fkn great times at Replay & The Crucible with another manchester legend my very good friend Big H (Horace Harvey) RIP dude .. GBNF. ♥ 🙏
