I still can't believe Killing Time and PO'ed were remembered and rereleased. I had both on the 3DO when they released and have fond memories of KT and remember getting uncontrollably lost in PO'ed. Other than loading up emulators, I would have never expected for these games to see the light of day ever again.
It's a nice surprise. Old-school FPSs have had a bit of a resurgence in general. These were relatively high-profile titles back then, arriving on the 3DO at the same time in November '95 as Doom on PS1, and they were part of that impactful first wave of FPSs between '93-'95.
I learned about Killing Time through your 3DO videos and was so interested I ended up getting a physical copy, and absolutely loved it! The little world building details are so great too, like how there's even an in game explanation for why there's guns and ammo all over the place. Can't wait to sit down with the remaster
Looks amazing!!!! The one review I was waiting for! Big fan of Nightdives stuff. Picking up on Steam for the deck and hopefully a physical copy for PS4/PS5 whenever that happens!
The PC version is the best version of Killing Time. I find it very impressive how they managed to build an entire map that feels actually like you could live there.& how many details they drop in the FMV scene to explain everything you see in the game (Duncan telling his goon to dump things around to explain the insane amount of ammo boxes or Tess mentionning she hired a group of clowns). I'm almost done playing through it all and I've been REALLY impressed.
Found out about this game through your 3DO videos. Just beat resurrected last night and it is such a cool game! Other than some dodgy performance issues on the Switch port, Nightdive did a fantastic job and I’m so glad I got to finally play this. I think it’s the first boomer shooter I’ve liked enough to beat it.
Gotta say, it's really lovely hearing someone be so passionate & upbeat about video games. I swear, you watch one LegacyKillaHD video and all your recommendations are end-time Debbie Downers hahah Cheers for the upload and happy for you getting art in the game!
I’ve always had a soft spot for both the 3DO and PC versions, I love the fact you had some involvement with this remaster, had a blast with it, just got the achievement for finishing under 2 hours 😆
Killing Time, PO'ed, The Thing, etc... Nightdive is doing some great work remastering these older oft-forgotten titles. There are so many more that I'd like to see given similar attention and I can't think of a better studio to handle them ATM.
I remember a glitch on the 3DO where you load a save and the screen goes black, you hear the sound of a duck being stepped on, and the points is something like -96544567865556. Did that happen to anyone?
I wish I could tell you more but it was my mother who discovered it. She said it happened in The Attic. I can't find a reference to it anywhere on the net. I wish I kept the save now but at the time it was just a broken save, similar to the polygon glitch. I love this game. I just wish I could hear the sounds of the optical drive like the 3DO.😂
I've loved Killing Time since the initial release. I even had the first, broken release of the copy, and returned it for the "fixed version," and it was still broken for me, even after deleting the game save. I bought the original game on Steam and was disappointed because of the poor control options. While I would like the 3DO level design to be available in Resurrected for nostalgia purposes, I get why they went with the PC port.
The quality of the writing, acting, and direction of the cutscenes in particular deserves praise, especially considering the timer period in which the original was produced.
@@VideoGameEsoterica Glad you had that and could supply it. I never played the 3DO version but did play the PC version a bit a couple of years ago. I didn't quite get into it but I could definitely see how impressive it would have been on release :)
I actually played a friend's copy of the 3DO version and have the digital release of the original PC version. I plan to get the new release soon. Edit: Wait vertical aiming is part of Killing Time? I always thought it was like Doom as long as the shot was lined on on the horizontal plane it didn't matter how far or below the point you were aiming the target was.
@@VideoGameEsoterica Definitely getting it on console before PC then. My PC Gamepad is dead and I massively prefer playing FPS games where vertical aiming is a factor with dual analog sticks over using a mouse and keyboard combo.
Not that this is a complaint or insult, but when I play this game it feels like I’m staring in a 90s Horror Action B-Film, the Puppet Master movies come to mind when I hear some of the music tracks in the game, it’s one example of a Film series that did awesome for itself despite the B-Movie status, but I degrees, this game should definitely get a sequel!
Damn Right, it's a Hidden gem series, Torch is my favorite character, they should have given him more than just a flamethrower to work with though, what I would have done was give him a chain gun with the flamethrower built in the cylinder🤘🎃💎🎬
I would totally find you in the game, if not for the fact that I've been watching your videos for years and still have no idea what you look like lolol.
I really glad this exists. The 3DO was pricey and pretty out of reach for me at the time. I was a SEGA fan and owned a Saturn. (So I also know the pain of loving a doomed console) I used to comb through the game magazines back in the day and this game always looked so damn interesting.
Hating the 3DO is absurd. Killing Time Star Control 2 (best game ever) Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo was a console exclusive for years. Road Rash best version of it on all consoles. Psychic Detective best FMV game ever
@@VideoGameEsoterica Ive been wanting to get into 3DO games such as Battle Blues, Killing Time, and Escape from Monster Manor (another game Nightdive should remaster). But damn the 3DO is a rough looking console. I can handle Saturn, but 3DO kind of pushes my tastes for 3D graphics.
@@VideoGameEsotericano one will ever remake that one. Psygnosis is own by sony, and sony has abandoned gaming, they are now focused on agenda driven games.
It's okay but I really hate some of the character designs they made for the enemies. Like the two headed hounds (or whatever they're actually called lol) In the original they looked pretty creepy, now they just look corny 😂😂 Same goes for the overall ambiance of the game. The forest was actually pretty creepy in the original. Hearing the distant howling of the two headed hounds, and the hunters whispering "here, boy..." Now all you hear are ducks quaking CONSTANTLY. The hunters are comically stereotypical hillbillies, which sure, is funny. However it completely ruined the overall creepy vibe it once had. Overall I give it a 6/10 at best. So not worth what they charged for it.
Never heard of this game but everything you are showing looks shitty but you are trying to sell it as gold. This music is not as good as you think. I was a console gamer back then, I didn't play shooters either back then. Resident Evil, Persona and Legacy Of Kain Blood Omen were better games in every way.
Nightdive makes old games look and play just as we remember them (instead of how they actually played and looked 😂)
Haha yep. Even I admit the 3DO framerate is rough and the PC version lacks the charm. Now we get the best of both worlds
Exactly
Nightdive should remaster the Jaguar version of Aliens vs Predator

@Marcus_K a huge surprise to me
Nightdive even remastered Doom 64 and Turok 3 which were N64 exclusive for like 25 years.
Then there is these rare 3DO games.
Nightdive and M2 deserve a Nobel Prize for their contributions

Hey, I worked on this!! Thanks for the review!

Nightdive for classic FPS remasters, Aspyr for classic 3rd person remasters. RIP Bluepoint.
