    • @blackdog9698919
      @blackdog9698919 5 ปีที่แล้ว +150

I mean, the reactionary position has always been that child murder is good, as long as the children being murdered aren't white. It is still funny because, yeah, even if LeeVonne or whatever his name is set the kid up, even in Ben's ridiculous scenario the cop is STILL the one who's obviously in the wrong. Even those retarded TV shows about cops can at least figure out that if you're going to try to justify police assassinations of civilians, you've got to try a little harder than this. Like, Officer Shamrock O'Prodtaigahan could have just, you know, ignored the kid and gone back to firebombing cathedrals or tossing the Pope's salad or whatever Irishmen do of a day, and LeeVonn's whole scheme would have fallen flat on its face. And Officer Paddy McBogtrotter should have blown his brains out after realizing what he'd done, to really drive home that when the fat blue line has to shoot a civilian four hundred times in the back in front of his wife and kids, the police are the REAL victims, not the dead children or whatever.
Why didn't Ben write it so that VeeLonne dressed up as a cop and murdered the kid himself in order to frame the police? You know, just to completely detach from reality and enter a fantasy world where the stupid fascists terrorizing our streets are actually misunderstood heroes who are being heinously discredited by the evil brown people.

@Porky A better question would be this: "Do you want revive The Troubles?" I'm not sure if you know what The Troubles are; it was a thirty-year period of time that was defined by violent attacks perpetrated by the Irish Republican Army against the British military in the hopes of removing British soldiers from Northern Ireland and uniting with the Republic of Ireland. It is also a time wherein Catholics were routinely beaten, stabbed or shot by the British military and homes as well as businesses that were allegedly or actually owned by Catholics were bombed. The Troubles is generally considered to have started in 1968 with the Battle of the Bogside and ended with the signing of the Good Friday Agreement of 1998.

It's really strange that, even in the most biased and favorable lens, Ben still portrays his heroes as committing morally objectionable actions.
The police officer shoots an unarmed kid. Even in the story's own context where this is a bait by "race hustlers," it actually supports the portrait of a trigger-happy, perhaps even racist, police force. Succinctly, it doesn't matter if someone "baits" you into murdering someone for a malicious reason. Murder is still murder, and it is still wrong.
He rails against terrorism, but his rancher character actually commits an act of domestic terrorism by bombing a government office.
Even as caricatures, these events represent a conservatism rife with contradiction and incredibly lacking in self-awareness. More disturbing is Shapiro's point of view, which apparently finds his character's actions defensible.
This is worse than Rand. She was a terrible writer who presented a preponderance of shallow characters, but even her ideological tomes had a simple internal consistency: selfish capitalists were heroes and socialists were villains. Shapiro demonstrates the same lack of nuance as Rand, but he can't even write a biased enough text to uncritically support his ideology.
It's hilarious, but it's also a sad symptom of a conservatism which has such a lack of intellectual grounding that it has to rely on the likes of Ben Shapiro as a mouthpiece.

Ouch. I remember learning that the Iran-Iraq War was the first time in the modern world that a person who is in a position of power used Sarin gas on civilians. Sadam Hussein unleashed Sarin gas on thousands of Kurds in the final days of the war. Though when most people hear the phrase "Sarin gas attack" they think of one of two events:
1.) The 2014 attack on civilians in Syria by Bashar al-Assad.
2.) The 1995 attack on the subway system of Tokyo, Japan by the extremist religious cult known as Aum Shinrikyo.
I am not entirely surprised by attack in Syria as it was done by a person in government; I am more surprised by the Tokyo subway attacks because it occurred in one of the safest countries in the world as well as the fact that the perpetrators were some of Japan's best and brightest and gotten great educations at some of Japan's most prestigious universities; Tokai University, Kogukua University, and Waseda University.

    • @michaellovely6601

It wouldn't surprise me if Ben has a copy of "The Turner Diaries" on his bedside table. I just hope that Ben doesn't write a sequel to "True Allegiance" but if he does; I would be somewhat interested if he sets the book during The Troubles as we could get an idea of what Ben's views on Northern Ireland are. For those who don't know what The Troubles are; they are defined as a thirty-year period of violence, terror and despair in the British Isles with the parties being the Irish Republican Army and the British military. The IRA was determined to have British soldiers removed from Northern Ireland and to unite with the Republic of Ireland under the leadership in Dublin. The British military was determined to stop the violence in Northern Ireland and make sure that Northern Ireland would remain under the rule of the British government in London. The Troubles are generally considered to have started in 1968 with the Battle of the Bogside and ended with the signing of the Good Friday Agreement of 1998. Ben would probably depict the Catholic population of Northern Ireland (and by extension the IRA) as violent murderous thugs who get excited over burning homes and businesses owned by Catholics as well as setting off car bombs in addition to beating, stabbing or shooting Protestant citizens, police officers and British soldiers. Ben would probably depict the British soldiers, Protestant community and the police forces of Northern Ireland as good people who were desperate to stop the IRA.

Like the President stuff is asinine (he's supposed to be a very obvious Obama stand-in with a Republican preceeding him in office and everything but then Ben mentions Obama so this guy is like the President of an alternate future 2020?) but him being killed off the make way for an incredibly unpopular female VP is like the perfect summation of how conservatives saw the 2024 election, so even though Ben obviously wrote her to be a Hillary stand-in he basically predicted Kamala Harris but was too early to capture the zeitgeist and too stupid to try and pull a "I predicted the future" grift in 2024

Yeah it sucks as some of the authors were pretty good until they discovered how many more books they could sell if they wrote everything as just right wing fantasy porn.

“Oh no, our top guy was blown up in an air strike instead of escaping a tactical extraction by the Americans”
“Darn, better recall all our deep cover operatives who were days away from finishing that bridge bombing they’ve plotted for several years. Obviously they couldn’t have followed through without very precise live step by step instructions from a guy several thousand miles away”

There is nothing I hate more than American Exceptionalism. I absolutely hate how conservatives seem to have this hollowed view of the US. It's just a democracy, one that is clearly deeply flawed and incapable of addressing these flaws.

Conservatives' take on American Exceptionalism is very shallow. Perhaps intentionally.
