Would be even better if his advice was always good - pour gas the way its meant, stand next to the pump and hold the nozzle. Don't fill it to the brim as it will overflow when you lean the bike. You had my respect at the end. No Aprilia v4 owner is doing a full tank refill without a splash hands free unless they learn to angle the fuel flow down to the base of the tank.
Also always make sure to drain the drops in the pump hand gun or whatever it’s called before you put the pump gun in the tank. Sometimes during rainy days the gun can have a lot of moisture/water which can lead to water in the tank.

  • @Mike-In-O-Town

If you park close enough to the pump there's no need not even get off the bike. Sit on it keeping it upright, put the nozzle in the tank, and hold onto the handle the 'entire' time you're fueling to avoid splashes or a possible overflow situation. Gas on a hot engine....not good.

Also, a little general info about gas/gas pumps.
If the handle of the pump gets stuck and can't be shut off, don't panic and pull the nozzle out of the tank. Instead, either push the nozzle into the tank as far as it will go or push the flap that covers the nozzle holster on the pump itself. Both methods will shut the pump off.
Gas grades have nothing to do with quality. It is a knock resistance rating, so filling up with 91 will do nothing beneficial if your vehicle is tuned to run on a lower grade. If you want better quality gas, stick with Chevron or Shell.

  • @brentbartley6838

As an owner of two Aprilias with their narrow filler openings I will offer my advice. First, lean the bike towards the pump. NEVER use the hands free latch (honestly 4gal or less does not take long to pump) and if you use the latch and the bike seems to be filling too long without tripping, DO NOT put your face directly over the tank when you pull the nozzle out. You may end up with a face full of gasoline, ask me how I know.
I don't rust any pump to trip on its own when filling a bike. Do it by hand, adjust flow rate as needed and just eyeball it.

  • @tuono.thierry

For that quantity of gas if you choose premium, for the first bit (everything in the hose and top of the machine) is whatever the previous person chose. Better off to use a strict premium pump if you can find one. Better than paying premium price for a good portion of lower quality fuel in your bike.

Well what i was taught is that you shouldn't sit on the bike while filling gas cause due to its high flamibility it can catch on fire and it will be very bad.
And it has happened in the past so you should stay off your bike when filling gas.

Do you have any issues with tank expansion due to ethanol? I’ve noticed tank expansion on older RSV4s due to the plastic tank combined with ethanol. Just curious if Aprilia now has metal tanks or are using different plastic that isn’t affected by ethanol. Thanks

Trident 660 has a metal bar right in the center so you can't even insert the nozzle at all. My first bike but it seems a little odd.

It takes literally 30 seconds to pump gas in a motorcycle. I just stand there and hold it cause I’ve seen too many pumps fail and overfill on the bike. Also the pump won’t top off a motorcycle tank most the time.

New rider here. I thought that I was only supposed to put rec 90 gas in my bike. I’ve been under the impression that I should put ethanol free gas all the time

If your filling a car that has at least 50 litre maybe then i can justify the lock but just hold the dam nozzle you can control the flow to prevent spray that way cause your not going to be there long anyway

Does your gas tank pressurize? I could understand a slight noise for a temperature difference but that sounded quite loud.

I guess if you want gas all over the this works, but with a little effort you can fill the bike and not spill a drop. Aprilias do have a small fill hole. Just don’t be lazy

Gas spilled on the tank hasnt hurt a thing on bikes in 40 years of riding. I like to worry about important things, like the dump truck behind me that just lost it's brakes...

92 is the highest octane fuel you can get there?!
In Switzerland 95 is actually the lowest/standard. 😅
(I didn‘t even know there was fuel with 80‘s ratings…)
