The most STUNNING gondola in Europe is in Chamonix, FRANCE

  • Our mission today is to take gondolas from Chamonix, France to Aiguille du Midi, hoping to catch some amazing views of Mont Blanc before hiking Grand Balcon Nord! We also visit the waterfalls of Gorges de la Diosaz. All in 4K!
    But first we need to travel from Geneva to Chamonix. Chamonix is not well connected by train to Geneva. There are a number of shuttle companies that will drive you from Geneva to Chamonix, France - but honestly, there aren't many that are well rated. Digging around on the SNCF website reveals another option - a French bus that will pick you up in Geneva, Switzerland and drive you to Chamonix! And it's not expensive! This is a great option for transport, but it only runs once or twice a day.
    Unfortunately the rain takes over right when we arrive and we awaken to light drizzle. After researching things to do in Chamonix in the rain, we decide to head to some nearby waterfalls. Taking the train in France is easy! We arrive at Gorges de la Diosaz, where they were checking for COVID health passes in August, 2021. We have an hour or so without rain (yay!), but then it starts again. At least this causes a lot of other visitors to leave.
    The next day, we are really excited to awaken to mostly clear skies and web cams reveal clear skies above the clouds. Despite my fear of falling (which IS different from a fear of heights!), we then take the cable car / gondola to Aiguille du Midi and then over to Pointe Helbronner, Italy on the Panoramic Gondola (with stunning Mont Blanc views). Once we're giddy from the views, we head back down for a hike. The hikes starts from about halfway back down the mountain, and heads to the right from the gondola station - following the Grand Balcon North trail. This is a well traveled trail that will take you all the way to Montenvers train station, where you can catch a train back to Chamonix. Just be mindful of when the last train leaves! We realized we were running really late and had to hustle to make it (or possibly NOT make it!).

    Good Day, You two think the Chamonix gondola ride was the best, but you must try the Stanserhorn Mtn gondola ride. You can ride on top and outside the gondola. You can reach the mountain from Luzern, Switzerland.

      I believe we've actually ridden that one! It was in our pre-TH-cam days. We actually might have some video of it somewhere. 😂

    10:08 I know what that scream is, but I didn't know it could be heard so loudly. Ahhh, weightlessness and you get out of the queue with an old lady from China clinging to your back...

      To be honest, videos and pictures rarely do justice to the Alps. They're *so* beautiful!!

    Looked amazing! We're about to do the Aiguille Du Midi and then the ponte helbronner as well as the grand balcon nord hike. How long do each of these activities take?

    • @TalesFromOurPocket
      @TalesFromOurPocket  ปีที่แล้ว

      You can do both in one day, if you're just doing the one hike. Get an early start and keep an eye on the time! It will be a beautiful day for you!

      Haha, that was me walking off to try and catch the train still! We switched music providers with this episode, so thanks for the feedback! You'll have to wait until the next episode to find out whether we made the train. 😳😂

      @@TalesFromOurPocket I can't find anywhere on the SNCF website about the bus. I tried to search for Transdev Mont Blanc bus too, but they are a bus service that apparently SNCF contracted with. Do you recall any of the details of where to submit the schedule request and the cost? Thx

      @TalesFromOurPocket  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TravelOften hi! Wow, this was hard to find! It appears the company SNCF contracted with is no longer running the route. A new company has picked up the service and they don't quite go to Chamonix (at least, I don't think so). Its final stop appears to be Sallanches. The new bus route has changed from T74 to 274. More info can be found here: www.tpg.ch/fr/lignes-interurbaines-transfrontalieres#ligne-274

    Hello, one week left to be there :) and I haven't done a plan for the 3 full days that we have. I saw your videos from there but I need your advice and some info about the cable car. How did you do? If you bought a general pass or pay each ticket for the cablecar/ train? I don't know how to do to be less expensive. And if you can tell how was the name of the trail that you did in that 2 days. Any information about organisation are appreciated. Thank you in advance

      Hi! Did you watch our other video from Chamonix? If not, make sure you check it out! The Grand Balcon Sud is the one *opposite* Mont Blanc and features heavily in our 2nd video. It is not the one in this hike. This hike was Grand Balcon Nord. We used a multipass ticket - just search for Chamonix Multipass. If you're there for several days, that's what I would recommend!

      @@TalesFromOurPocket I've just seen it, when you go up to Flegere you follow the grand balcon sud, but there were the posibility to go to Lac Blanc before? Or you estimated will not be enough time?

    • @TalesFromOurPocket
      @TalesFromOurPocket  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It depends on how early you start! If you were to take one of the early cable cars up and back from Mont Blanc, then go to the opposite side of the valley to go up to the Grand Balcon Sud hike, I think there's enough time!
