  • What I learned from recording my album - Part 2: Mindset, preparation & regrets | EP108
When it comes to recording, everyone has their own way of getting in the zone. Sure, spontaneous magic can sometimes happen, but being prepared for what you're about to do is the best way to really get fired up! In today’s episode, I look back at what I learned and what I did (my creative process) when I went in to record my upcoming solo album. From dealing with pre-studio jitters, to my one big regret.
In this podcast you're going to learn:
What to expect from my new album.
    How I learnt the tunes.
The one thing I wish I’d done differently.
Why I’m giving away the bass I recorded with.
    And much, much more!

The discipline involved in knowing when it is the best moment to drop a well pronounced F bomb is almost as critical as knowing the songs. Love it!,!,!

Dude, the snippets of audio I've heard so far from this project are incredible!!!! I've been following Simon King on Facebook for many years, I'm not sure how that started but he has truly become one of my biggest inspirations as a player & fellow multi-instrumentalist.
When I first heard that you and him knew each other and were making a fusion album, my mind was blown!!!! So excited for this release. I'll be learning all the lines in my GWB35 🤩
    Much love from Michigan USA!!!

I should say *attempting to learn the lines. But it shall be a valiant attempt.

I have been watching you from the start, and I love you and now Ian too. I'll be a little blunt I'm sixty-nine and been getting paid to play for fifty years, so I don't take courses, but it all keeps me sharp, so thank you. Your album will be great and the greatest learning experience of your life. I feel your real first choice of bass was your Gary Willis. However with your relationship with him and band members gave that a stigma. Also with love, if you did not have this disease you might not have become the artist you are now, Jon

Great episode Scott. I like how you're being transparent with your album and really opening up the whole experience for your listeners. I also wanted to say that offering the ebook and lessons with your album is genius and enables your audience, who no doubt, are predominantly bass players, to truly emerse themselves.into your.music. very clever and creative stuff on both a musical and business perspective.
I would like to hear more about how you have gone from an idea to, a rough draft, to a finished product. What were your project management methods, who did you learn on, how did you curate and conceptualise your ideas, all the way to mastering the final product?
Well done with everything, you've clearly worked immensely hard to get to where you are now.

I for one could definitely geek out on a lesson or a class like that I think that's something that's not talked about enough we worry about our technique in our style and intonation but then when it comes time to getting it all down on a recording goes out the window we depend on somebody else or rely on somebody else..............🤔

I think there's opportunity there Scott you definitely need to do a deep dive on engineering I bet you there's a lot of bass players that are weak and that department like myself who struggle with recording and how to actually get the sound eq'd and get it all on tape❤

Did you find that having a B string was helpful in your recordings? Were you accessing the first 5 notes on it?

Is the Banana bass more favouriter than the Moollon?

    Scott Big Brother weighing in.
I think you should have rehearsed less and at time if recording , hit the studio with a little more improve

Also a little extra, your vids are always good when your bouncing off of Ian. Having just watched this cast, I was reminded of old Stiff upper lip Scott. For example, I always compare your passion and drive to let’s say you were not a bass player and awesome human, you would be running a firm and battling Reggie and Ronnie if this was the mid 60’s in the West End lok
