This is a great tip! I was feeling frustrated because I'm producing the same song for the last 5 months and I never feel it is ready. Now I know I'll never feel like it is ready! So I'll follow your tip and define a date to stop working on that song.
Man I wish I had this advice sooner. I produce my own band and our last record (12 songs) took 15 months, double the time than I wanted it to. We play a show every 6-8 weeks locally, and now we release a song every time we play instead of working on (excluding writing) a dozen songs at a time and it’s been SO much more satisfying and makes sense in the way we consume music today. We are saving a couple for an EP or album release but it keeps everyone so much more interested and everything sounding fresh, and at the same time gives me a deadline. By the way “testicular fortitude” is going to be a new phrase in my vocabulary.
I love this guy! just watched all the interview clips, and he has some great advice!

This is a pretty good thing to hear. I'll be producing my own stuff the moment I get a soundboard.
Great advice
