    You were right on the money, the speedmaster 1861 is discontinued. I bought two preowned this year in Philly , I had a feeling they were going to be gone. The new 3861 are going to be about two to 3 thousand more

      They are still available from the boutique till date. Some Omega staff saying that they will continue producing it.

    Hi
    I normally do not comment a lot on YT , but in this case, I have to.
    Beginning in 2020, I had to decide to go for a Rolex Explorer or the Speedmaster. Money was was not the issue, because I had time to spend some in order to go for my very last Watch in my Life (54 now). The Explorer is a beautiful timepiece, but it didn't give me the right push to open my credit card.
    Different with the Speedmaster. It nearly became popular about the time, when I was born (don't be too specific here), and lasted until I am 54 now. What item on earth can say that to its heritage ?? Only a Leica Camera can do. So I checked it.
    It had all the flaws, which I wanted to avoid. 50 Meters waterproof is a joke, just nothing, so forget it. Hesalit gets scrachted, the Moment you take it out of the case. The Movement is old School. Puhhhh, but the Rolex is the Perfection.
    You know what: The Omega with the Hesalit does it for me !
    I wanted something to identify with.
    Polywatch every half a year keeps you scratch-happy.
    And amazingly, the movement isn't that bad.
    If you have a constant and steady pattern how of using this thing, it runs constantly !
    Means constantly slow or fast. But both can be adjusted.
    In the end you will get a perfectly running Timepiece
    Pls excuse my bad English.
    Hesalit is german, English would be Hesalite.

    Dude they will never get rid of the hesalite model. It's the one flight certified by NASA. It's the essence of what makes the watch popular.

    Omega will keep the hesalite Speedy with non display case back. They will also offer the sapphire sandwich version. Both will contain the 3861 movement with identical finishing. The price difference will be around $1000 between the two variants. The bracelet will stay the same but the clasp will feature on the fly adjustment. If Omega ditches the hesalite with non display back they tarnish the origins of the original moon watch. Will the Tachy bezel be aluminum or ceramic? Just my opinion!

      My thoughts exactly. I think this will be the case. Just hope they will keep the haselite version.

    Glad I bought a new hesalite speedy on leather 2 weeks ago. I really hope that omega dont mess with the classic. I can understand the movement change and I am not a fan of the current bracelet, but it's always been an icon and a bargain. Shame if it ends up being £6k +

  • @ianhand5006

    I personally think that the only thing Omega should change is the bracelet. The current one makes the watch seem larger than it actually is, due to the poorly designed end links. I also think that a bracelet with a decent taper, towards the clasp, looks so much better. Just look at the Rolex Oyster bracelet, it's perfect!
    Fortunately third party manufacturers are now making remakes of older Omega bracelets, which is a good thing.

  • @stevemitchell7981
    @stevemitchell7981 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I agree with you, the 1861 is going to be retired. Omega will push the co-axial movement and 321 movement. I think the Omega Speedmaster is way under valued. If Rolex had that watch it would be in the 8 grand range.

    • @Kostja81
      @Kostja81 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      With all respect Rolex would set a price somewhere north of 19000€ and a waiting line i cannot imagine 😅 but I could be wrong

  • @menandroplan1554
    @menandroplan1554 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Agree with everything bar the patina. I hope you know this watch has Superluminova, and that does not patina. To patina it must have tritium hence no modern day watch will get creamy markers..

  • @treblarefils
    @treblarefils 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    There will always be demand for these. Whatever new version they come out with will have a hefty price increase. I agree with all your predictions on this watch. I got mine for a deal so im happy keeping it although i have debated flipping for a tudor but i dont want to regret it. I made the most of my huge watch purchases about 5 years ago when Rolex/Omega watches were much cheaper glad i did with whats happened with the market.

  • @mkyhou1160

    Omega need to create a reason for existing owners to upgrade. Omega aren’t like Rolex, they don’t really care about protecting their icons or the resale market, it’s all about special and new editions to being in rapid cash so Swatch can hit targets for executive bonuses. I wonder if the changes suggested in this video would do the trick, I expect there will be something else to create a wow / upgrade reason. A ceramic bezel is probably in the mix.

    • @showcasewatches3465
      @showcasewatches3465  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    • @mkyhou1160
      @mkyhou1160 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michael Dude The difference is that right now there are three steel sub variants in the Rolex catalogue, 8 in total if you include the gold variations. There are 45 moonwatch variants on Omega site today, hundreds of Speedmasters if you include racing. 57, mark 3, 38mm, etc. Omega don’t care all those options dilute the used market / the meaning of what a speedmaster is.

    In hindsight, very good predictions. A little surprised though, you would expect them to do away with the hesalite. I think that would end in riots :) Come one.. hesalite is MUCH prettier, and can easily be polished, or for that sake swapped. About the bracelet. I personally like mine. But happy to explore.

  • @johngallop8581
    @johngallop8581 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think the bracelet and clasp could come from the 60th anniversary 1957 Speedmaster. It doesn’t taper as much as the Apollo 11 50th, it’s a bit thicker and the clasp has sliding adjustment. Just my thoughts based on what you’ve said. Great info and hope you get your 321 soon. 👍

    Great video! In your opinion, what would be a good pre-owned price on a later model (2019) 1861 in excellent condition, purchased from a bricks & mortar dealer? How much room do you think there would be for haggle, considering that you can get brand new grey market for pretty much similar prices?

    • @showcasewatches3465

    Great vid James! Thanks for sharing your personal perspective on the moonwatch. A lot of strong points. Would be very excited to know what happens next.
    Throwing in a slight curveball here, do you think the FOIS would be in the same boat? Or would it be discontinued? I'm aware vid and the topic at hand dwells on the MOTM. But, as it may be worth pondering as well, just wondering how its smaller brother with figure out in its place on the market? Would it stay or would it go? A next one on que for update, perhaps?

I've been told that too. apart from the new movement will be a 3861 . omega should make all the improvement including the price rise. with the 3861 movement it will put the watch on pare with the Rolex if not improve on it .. Just my personal think here, I think that the Speedy Professional has a special role to play as it is the one true piece that serves as the seminal link to one of humanity's landmark events the Moon Landing. I feel that your observations have merit, but nothing you have said is new and has been tried by Omega in all the various iteration of the Speedmaster versions, a historical case in point are the various attempts to update in the guise of deferent Mark versions. They have innovated, created sub lines, revisited historical references, tried to push the Speedmaster line up market and all manner of improvemenfs, however though much fanfare has been given during the various releases this is not borne in the secondary/preowned market. Other `Speedmaster' are not really acquiring in value. In the event that Omega does retire the Moonwatch, I fear many would divert their attention to the pre-owned market and this would cause Omege to ressuscite the Moonwatch as we know her.

      Hey Paul, i am exactly the same. The movement i am 99.9% on but these moves suggested in the video would make commercial sense to allow a significant price increase to bring the Speedy up to where the other chronographs are. I hope im wrong apart from the bracelet aspect
