I really like her videos because she doesn't waste time gabbing and talking about irrelevant things and processes. Her instructions are clear and easy to understand. So many videos on TH-cam should be much shorter in length if the hostess was prepared in advance and the videos edited to delete the wasted time and mistakes.

Me, too. I hate when youtubers spend 3 minutes talking about what they had for breakfast before getting started with the tutorial.

I agree. She also doesn't put music in the background

    • @thescrappinfrog
      @thescrappinfrog ปีที่แล้ว

I will skip over a video that is just music or music in the background. Most of the time it is distracting from the video. If its the only video for what I am looking for, then I just watch with the sound off. Laura's video are great-to the point and that's what I want to see.

The clear precise instructions are wonderful. So many others repeat the same instruction over and over or just waffle on using the wrong terminology. I come to Laura first every time for tutorials. 5 Star all the way!

Thank you Laura, I am a beginner sewer and made a beautiful cover for my sewing machine with your instructions. I used beautiful remnants of green fabric that were in the discount bin at Spotlight. Even my husband was impressed. Thank you so much for your sensible clear and informative teaching style.

A friendly Hello from Cincinnati...Laura, I'm so very grateful that I just discovered & subscribed to your terrific channel...It's now April, 2020, & the pandemic quarantine is still in full force...What good timing for me as I just ordered a brand new sewing machine, & can't wait to start putting it to good use beyond alterations... *: )*
This brilliant sewing machine cover tutorial will be my 1st project...I began making my own clothes on an ancient Singer machine about 55 years ago...I'm incredibly grateful to my Mom & Gramma for fostering my love of machine sewing & decorative (hand) needle work...It's given me so much pleasure over the years...
    Bless you!!! Poppy

I watched this video about two years ago, then made my sewing machine cover. Now I'm back as a reminder, for my first overlocker to get its cover. Only thing I changed was to use a thick striped cotton tape sewed to the edges of the main piece, then sewed its other edge to the sides, which gives the impression of binding without any hand sewing, and partly because my newly quilted fabric with bumph, was too thick to sew binding onto. I sewed the tape all round the bottom, and across the pocket tops too. I love my sewing machine cover, it's one of the best things I've ever made, thank you for the wonderfully clear and useful demo. Am hoping the overlocker cover turns out as well :)

I have watched a number of YT videos on sewing machine covers; only one came even close to being as good as yours! The reason yours stands out as THE BEST is how you showed us how to make the cardboard box template, how to make the measurements for whatever size machine one is covering, and then the way you sewed the binding - yow-sah! I want to cover my sewing machines and kitchen appliances using these ideas. Of course I love the fabric selections with coordination and contrast. I don't have an embroidery machine, but can use the idea of a decorative stitch. Thanks, Laura.

I remember watching this video & feeling it was a great tutorial . I was dreaming about a cover for my machine, in a dedicated sewing room & I was filled with anticipation. I knew I needed some time as the room had waited 33 years for me to inherit it, & it wouldn’t have to wait much longer. My dd was working from home, & it was her dedicated space. She was also expecting a baby. Well, babies 15 months. Those months have been filled with fun & quickly flown by. It’s been a lovely Sewing space for just 6 months, & it’s time for the final decorating touches. I’m rewatching videos, & I love this one more than ever. It’s going to be such a big help. Thanks so much for all the time & effort. This video is really good. Thanks Happy Sewing! Gramma to 13.

I had a lined cotton pencil skirt whose circumference happened to fit my 1948 Kenmore perfectly.. I sewed the lining all around the hem trimmed off some of the top and closed it up with boxed sides. (Think upside down tote bag.) I thought it was lazy and convenient repurpose. Now this video .... I'm impressed!!

Hmm . . . I got an air fryer for Christmas. I’ve been thinking of covering it and I remembered your video.
Think I’ll try making a matched set for air fryer, blender, mixer, even my food saver standing on its side. In fact, as I’m writing this, I’m remembering that I have some fabric I bought - a few years ago - just waiting for a project. It’s rows of farms @ different seasons. I’ll fussy cut it as 6 inch border. I love it! Thank you!!

I used Warm and Natural batting instead of the foam. I had to trim off the seams in order to get the binding around it, then used a decorative stitch to make sure I got it all. It was a pretty close fit. I can't hand sew due to tendonitis, so the decorative stitch worked great. I would make the binding a little wider next time, though, so that I don't have to trim down so much of the seam. I love how my sewing machine cover turned out and wish I could post a photo here. I suppose I could upload a video of it. Anyway, I watched a lot of tutorials and this one I liked the best.

You had me up until the finishing the binding with hand stitching..Argh! LOL For those not wanting to hand stitch....it can be made as shown... but reversing the seams so they are on the inside. I used the pellon fusible heavy weight interfacing and quilted the outer fabric to it. I created a same dimensions lining but left a 4" opening to turn out the machine cover....kinda like a purse or bag. Turn the cover out, sew up the 4" opening. So the lining would not sag down....I hot ironed the inner lining to the fusible interfacing so it stays up. Then put a decorative binding along the bottom if wanted for extra pizazz.... Thank you for the video!!

Laura this is a great idea! And very well explained and thought out. I want to make a cover for the upright chest freezer so I’ll use the same principles, maybe with a fold over edge and button tabs. I am very conscious of climate change and the effect of items made from petrochemicals such as foam, polyester, plastics, and any synthetic chemicals. It was nice that you included the use of batting instead of foam as padding and it would be great if you could nominate a sustainable product as an alternative for any of the synthetic products used. Thanks again for this great tutorial.

It’s done and it looks great! I found the same upper fabric (but chose the pink shades) and used a black fabric with tiny flowers on the bottom, with pink piping. I also added a few pearl beads to jazz it up. Who knew that quilting was must sewing a straight line! Thanks, Laura!

Cute machine covers! Thanks so much for sharing. I have three machines I need to make covers for and one is an embroidery machine that I'd like to be able to keep the arm on, but still cover it.
