    I love Sage and a little goes a very, very long way
    For instance minced and added to your salads
    chopped and sauteed in olive or peanut oil prior to stir-frying
    Or to any meat prior to cooking as if you would add some bay leaves
    It is also great for winter soups

    Sage goes great on pork roast. Also dried and used in your herb dressing for Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.

    Love the herbs. I added self-heal seeds this year and my babies are doing great. This is an anti-inflammatory member of the mint family.

    I believe that the Toothache plant leaves are supposed to be placed on the painful tooth and ground between the sore and opposing tooth.

    I have a friend with a real problem with dry mouth -- will have to tell her about the toothache herb!

    I love using sage in this skillet roasted sweet potato/green apple/bacon/chicken hash. A little cinnamon in there makes it very holiday-y

    What do you do when you have orango growing in the garden and it has seeds on the top of some of it

    • @MyTexasYard
      @MyTexasYard  ปีที่แล้ว

      I just let it do it’s thing. I use it when I need it, and just let it go through it’s natural cycle.

    Can you grow chamomile in Texas zone 9?

    • @MyTexasYard
      @MyTexasYard  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven’t tried, but I bet I can.

    • @LadyGoza
      @LadyGoza 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MyTexasYard I've tried growing them from seed, but they just don't take. They sprout tiny little leaves, they stay tiny for several days, and then they dry up. I need to purchase a grown plant. Which variety grows well in zone 9?

    • @MyTexasYard
      @MyTexasYard  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have not tried any so I would just be guessing what variety’s grow well.

    A lot of people swear by using LOTS of sage for Thanksgiving dressing (or stuffing). And that is something that tastes great all year -- even made with chicken and even vegan!

    I put sprigs of fresh sage and rosemary inside the cavity of my turkey at Thanksgiving before I roasted it. I had also made a paste of butter and rubbed sage with salt and pepper and rubbed it under the skin of the bird. It was the best turkey I have ever made and everyone loved it and commented on how good it was.
    I also dry my sage leaves and rub them in a screen strainer and use the rubbed sage in chicken soup or chicken and dumplings. It’s good stuff. 😉

      That’s a good idea.

    How's your feverfew doing? What size did it get? I'm in Houston and I really want feverfew in my garden but it's been hard for me to find a lot of info on it. Thanks for this vid!

    • @MyTexasYard
      @MyTexasYard  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have grown Feverfew the last two years. It has died in winter each year.
      It struggles in full sun in summer also.
      It stays pretty small, but when healthy, it blooms a lot.
      I enjoy growing it and will grow it again come spring.

    Sage is great in any poultry dish and also Pork. Check All-recipes on line for recipes or any good recipe site on line. I am into books so it is had to recommend as have too many . But we use it in chicken recipes. also dried for tea. Also all herbs grown can be used for teas, as well as other remedies, try planting some lemon Grass, we call it fever grass in the Caribbean , and it makes a great tea as well as used in Thai Food recipes. I also get a great Herb book. Ninette Bird- the Caribbean Wife.

      I’ll give it a try on the next chicken I do. I like smoking whole chickens. I hope I like it because it’s growing like crazy. Lol

    I have some lemon thyme in a pot and toads keep trying to live in the soil! They don’t bother any of my other plants.
