    Excellent. The CFU is definitely one of my favorites, especially when it’s used the “right” way by taking advantage of the Chase ecosystem. Very solid points throughout. I can’t wait to see what Matt comes up with 😃.

    Love the CFU, it's my most used Chase card out of the trifecta. I picked it over the Double Cash because the Chase ecosystem works better for me and I bank with Chase so it made sense for me. Great Video Spencer!

    • @SpencerJohnsonOfficial
      @SpencerJohnsonOfficial  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did the exact same thing so I completely understand! Those 2% cards can be great, but with the power of Chase’s ecosystem being the CFU, it makes it an even more powerful card than the others in my opinion. Thank you for the support!!

    Great video Spencer! If I were to start over in my credit card journey, I definitely think the CFU would probably be at the top of my list, especially if I had a Freedom Student to begin with. Like you mentioned, this card is the anchor for powerful Chase setups so this is a great starting point!

    AHH, This was a great video!
    Love the insight with “keeping this card open for life”. Since it’s chase, you benefit from not being tied down to an annual fee and the 5/24 just yet as you’ll start with chase, then continue collecting chase cards until after 5/24 etc.
    Almost like setting the cornerstone for your credit card empire.
    Very informative Spencer as always and I can’t wait for Matt’s video tomorrow!

    I recently got approved for this card and I was so proud of myself that I got this card. I got the Flex a couple months ago and now I have the Unlimited it feels like I'll be racking my points for the future. Great video brother :).

      That's so awesome to hear! I'm excited for you!! Having both the Freedom Flex and Freedom Unlimited really increases the power of your setup as a whole... now once you add that Chase Sapphire Preferred you'll have an awesome trifecta and can use your points to transfer out to travel partners to travel the world for free! Congratulations on your new card and thank you for the kind words 😊

    • @DitsyMe
      @DitsyMe ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SpencerJohnsonOfficial yea the Trifecta would be really nice. I'm debating to go for the CSP or the Savor card from C1. The reason why I don't travel and the savor would be a good fit for me than the CSP

    • @SpencerJohnsonOfficial
      @SpencerJohnsonOfficial  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DitsyMeThat could be a great strategy! Just make sure you understand how you want to redeem your points. To my understanding, Capital One points can only be redeemed at 0.5cpp when used for cash back which is not ideal. That's what I like about Chase as it gives you the option to redeem for cash at 1cpp or if you transfer to travel partners with the Chase Sapphire Preferred, you can get 2+cpp which is great. Just something to think about!

    • @DitsyMe
      @DitsyMe ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SpencerJohnsonOfficial 😣 I'm not too sure man. The Savor card is on top of my list 100% the CSP is a great card the only thing about it is its a travel card. But the 3x points on dining and the streaming services catches my interests. The savor card has the 4% CB on dining, 3% on groceries, and streaming services. I watch a lot of Netflix, eat out a lot, and grocery shopping every month. So its really a coin flip on which card to choose for my needs.

    • @SpencerJohnsonOfficial
      @SpencerJohnsonOfficial  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Savor One definitely has more broad covering earning categories, but it just doesn’t earn great in cash back form. If you redeem through their travel portal or with transfer partners then it’s really good though. The Citi Premier card is another solid one with a lot of 3x categories that gets you 1cpp in cash back and 2+cpp in travel with their transfer partners, so that’s an option too. If you’re looking for a straight cash back card with no annual fee and a lot of earning categories, you could check out the new Wells Fargo Autograph card too. I would definitely get the CSP at some point, but now may not be the best time for you if you aren’t traveling at all.

    Great video with deserved like ! although I have Chase business unlimited and when I was given the choice for my last credit card for 5/24 between personal freedom unlimited or world of Hyatt , I chose CFU because at the end, this card is even for entertainment with solid points which you can not use with Chase business unlimited. If someone says who cares if you used your Chase business unlimited for entertainment then there are two risks and a loss of advantage. Risk which is Chase might say you breached our agreement to use this solely for business and if you filed this with IRS then you can loose protection if someone sued you and they find mix of use between personal and business and you loose advantage of huge time saving by not able to separate between business expenses and personal when you want to have estimate of expenses with paperwork support. I do not know if I am fully correct but this can be another topic for another day for business credit cards. Keep up posting these great videos!

      That’s a very good point Ahmed! Separating personal and business finances is a really important thing to do, especially when it comes to tax season. I think it can be a really beneficial thing to have both the personal and business version of the unlimited card, and you seem to think the same! Not only can you separate those finances, but you also get to have both welcome bonuses that you can combine together for free travel!! Thanks for your input!!

    The CFF earns more points for me overall because I can almost always make good use of the 5% categories, but the CFU is my catch all card because UR points are so flexible and I know that I’m getting a minimum of 1.5% back, so I always use the CFU for non-category spend.

      Haha yeah those were always the worst!! What credit card are you thinking of getting?

    • @BimmerWon
      @BimmerWon 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SpencerJohnsonOfficial I’m thinking about the Chase Freedom Flex. I already have the Citi Custom Cash and the Citi Double Cash so I can book a round trip flight from Boston to Hawaii for 15,000 points once I get the Citi Premier. That’s a redemption value of 5¢-6¢ a point but no travel insurance so I’ll have to get that separately. I was thinking about Chase for hotels but idk if it’s worth it because Chase’s hotel transfer partners look expensive and I can usually find cheap highly rated hotels I can just pay for with cash to get a better deal. As long as the bed is clean and the area feels safe then I don’t really care how luxurious it is since I’m only ever at the hotel when sleeping. The rest of the time I’m out exploring and often spend more money on “crazy wacky” experiences than my hotel. However, if my income increased to the point where Citi can afford me more trips to Hawaii than I can take a year with my PTO, I’d absolutely get Chase no question because I can still redeem for cash back. Currently I’m considering it for the Cell phone insurance, new purchase insurance for expensive purchases, and just to add a card to increase my credit score to 800 hopefully. It’s at 752 now but could be better.

    • @SpencerJohnsonOfficial
      @SpencerJohnsonOfficial  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It sounds like you’ve really thought it through! The freedom flex is a great card to have with those earning categories and the extra Mastercard benefits it comes with. Chases hotel cards, specifically Hyatt, can be really powerful, but they definitely can be expensive. I’d only go to Hyatt for the nice resorts, and if you use it for that then you’ll be at the hotel a lot more then you are now and at that point it may be worth it. With the way you’re traveling right now, it sounds like you’re doing the right thing for you and that’s what matters! You’ve really thought a lot of this through and that’s the most important part. Since you have the double cash, I would recommend the freedom flex over the unlimited because you already have a good catch all card, so it looks like we agree there! Keep up the good work!

  • @yvjyang
    @yvjyang ปีที่แล้ว

    • @SpencerJohnsonOfficial

    If you already have the chase freedom unlimited does the 5/24 rule still apply

    • @SpencerJohnsonOfficial
      @SpencerJohnsonOfficial  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m not 100% sure what you mean by that but the 5/24 rule does apply to this card and all other Chase cards as well. To get approved for this card you have to be under 5/24, and once you get this card your 5/24 status will jump up by 1. Does that answer your question?

    • @590DM
      @590DM 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SpencerJohnsonOfficial if I have 4 card and I open up a chase credit card as my 5th card. Could I get another chase card or will I be denied

    • @SpencerJohnsonOfficial
      @SpencerJohnsonOfficial  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      As long as it’s a personal card, no matter what card you add at 4/24 will put you at 5/24 after that. And once you’re at 5/24, Chase will deny you for any of their cards. So if you’re at 4/24 right now then the next card you add will lock you out of Chase until you’re back at 4/24 or less. The only cards that don’t count towards 5/24 are business cards, but all personal cards will add to your 5/24 count.

    • @SpencerJohnsonOfficial
      @SpencerJohnsonOfficial  ปีที่แล้ว

      Over the course of a billing cycle (about a month) all of your purchases will be added to your statement balance. The due date for that statement balance is usually about a month following the month of said billing cycle. But you should be using a credit card like a debit card and only put purchases on your cards that you can pay off right away. And I recommend setting up autopay on your cards so you never accidentally miss paying that statement balance off!

      Hey, I’m glad you’re starting your own channel! I wouldn’t worry too heavily about tags or anything like that. As long as you fill them out and have them relate to your content you’ll be fine! There aren’t any magic tags that will make your channel blow up. The most important things are thumbnails and titles. Plus the topic of course. Honestly I think CFU is underwhelming, AMEX overall provides better multipliers for every category. I think CFF is the only good card chase these days.

    • @SpencerJohnsonOfficial
      @SpencerJohnsonOfficial  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s a hot take on it for sure! Obviously based on how positively I talk about it, I disagree. While Amex cards do provide higher multipliers for the most part, I think the Chase trifecta is the best beginner credit card setup you can get from one lender. And Citi is a contender for that spot too, I just think Chase is still the most popular. There’s no secret Amex cards provide some insane value, but a lot of times that costs you quite a bit a year in annual fees so that’s not great for beginners. I like hearing your opinion though so thank you for bringing up this discussion!

    • @nathanacreman632
      @nathanacreman632 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SpencerJohnsonOfficial you know I get where you’re coming from, but I’d rather pay a higher annual fee and getting a lower effective annual fee and better multipliers personally. The only reason I keep my chase cards around these days is because of Hyatt as a transfer partner. I just wish Amex had a good hotel transfer partner personally. But yeah I guess if you’d want to avoid annual fees then the CFF CFU and CSP are a lot cheaper than the Amex equivalent in annual fees

    • @SpencerJohnsonOfficial
      @SpencerJohnsonOfficial  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think you make a great point! I just imagine it takes people a while to be comfortable with paying any kind of annual fee and since a lot of people bank with Chase too, I think it’s a good starting point. Graduating up to Amex cards though makes a ton of sense depending on what transfer partners you value. Also gotta remember that Amex isn’t great for beginners who may want to redeem for cash back on top of travel. Without the Charles Schwab platinum, Amex doesn’t have any great cash back options compared to the simplicity of Chase’s 1 cpp straight to your bank account. There’s a lot to consider but I think both lenders are at the top of the game and are good for people at different stages in their credit card journeys!

  • @UnfortunatelyYourWrong

    Would you say it’s better than Discover? That’s what I’ve started with and it’s worked really well, I’ve been stuck at a 767 credit score for half a year now. Should I consider getting a chase card soon?

    • @SpencerJohnsonOfficial
      @SpencerJohnsonOfficial  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good question! Personally, I like Chase cards more. The Discover it card is a great one to get started with, but discover doesn’t offer many great cards above that one, so I would recommend moving to Chase and getting their cards and then moving to other lenders like Amex, Citi, etc. In doing that, you’ll be able to get all the Chase cards you want while you’re under Chase’s 5/24 rule and then you can get other cards on top of that. If you’re not worried about getting 5 cards in 24 months, then you can move to whatever lender you like the most! I hope that helps!
