The best live group of all time in my book. Nobody ever left a queen concert feeling cheated. Freddie was hands down the best front man on the planet, may he rest in eternal peace. Thank you for all the great music Freddie.
Freddie Mercury just came out there and did what he always has done and is still doing today.. kicking everyone's ass when it comes to performing on stage. The dude was a beast! We love you Freddie, and we still miss you! RIP. #Legend
Amazing when you think about it though....just about every musician on the planet still consider Freddie the best. I don't think anyone would've thought Freddie would be so respected, revered, loved and missed as much as he is.
Freddie had vocal nodules AND laryngitis at live aid. Doctors advised him not to perform. He ignored them and this was the result. All the more incredible when you think about it. :)
This was and IS the best rock performance of all time, period! To all the naysayers that were giving QUEEN flack - whenever people talk about Live Aid, this is what they talk about, enough said! QUEEN rocked the world that day!
The greatest gig of all time - magnificent and showed everybody else how it's done. Queen was Live Aid - everybody remembers this performance. - totally phenomenal!!
I was 8 years old when live aid was aired, i watched it with my family and when Queen came on that stage, that was the moment i fell in love with music, Queen and Freddie. He was my first love and he will be my last!
I recently stumbled across a video of Queens' performance at Live Aid and it jumped to the top of my best live performance ever list. I've always liked Queen's music and found Freddie Mercury kind of fascinating but that performance really showed me Freddie Mercury the person. And I think he was a beautiful person. A true one of a kind who was going to be himself no matter the consequences. I was just typing another comment on him on another video a little bit ago and I caught myself saying something about his performance while "dying of AIDS" and it suddenly hit me like a flash that Queen's performance and Freddie's ownership of the stage during that performance was so NOT the work of someone "dying of" ANYTHING. He was LIVING WITH AIDS. What a legend. RIP Mr. Mercury.
He was actually HIV positive, but wasn't aware of it, from what I've heard. He had had tests done because he suspected he was infected, but he was told he was HIV negative. It wasn't until 1986 when he was having flu like symptoms and intestinal issues companied with nausea, that he had more tests done. It was confirmed he was HIV positive.
I have seen some really REALLY good live bands in my day but nothing will compare to this performance by Queen. There is a reason we are still commenting on it almost 40 years later.
Freddie OWNED that crowd from the first note of Bohemian Rhapsody to the final note of We Are The Champions. He had 75K people hanging on his every move and every note. It is the ultimate showman in his finest live performance.
Nobody has ever filled out a pair of Wrangler jeans as well as Freddie. The best thats ever been then.........and now. Thanks for the music and memories Queen.
I was lucky to get 2 tickets thru a guy I knew for live aid. Freddie stole the show! As has been said before "Freddie! Welcome to , the WORLD!" Something nobody who was there will ever forget!
The sound for the show was not that good, but Queen snuck their own sound tech into Wembley, and he adjusted everything for Queen, so when they went on it was a huge difference in sound. Bob Geldof was in the stands doing an interview, and when Queen started to play, he stopped and said "Who the fuck is that?"Queen stole the show! They opened with Bohemian Rhapsody, and then played all the hits.Backstage, McCartney, Elton John, and Geldof, said "Well that's it! Who's going to go on after that?"
Freddie you still wipe the floor with alot of "musicians" from today. My 4 year old loves you! Queens greatest hits in his little Cd player, TV control as a microphone in his hand and fist pumping the air just like you. Thank you for the joy ☆☆☆
I watched it live...huge Duran Duran fan, they're my favorite group but seeing Queen perform....I was a fan of theirs but after that they were one of my favorites. Still are to this day.
I always use this performance as an example to would-be musicians of how to hold an audience in the palm of your hand. Freddie is in complete control. What makes it even more amazing is that his physician warned him not to take the stage that night due to his medical condition. But Freddie put it all on the line that evening. And he killed...
William Henderson yeah he had laryngitis and was advised not to perform. If this was him with laryngitis, we can only imagine what it would've been like 100%
For 25 minutes of history, Freddie Mercury was GOD and proved that you can be whoever you want to be in this world and no amount of hate or criticism or pain or suffering or disease can take that away from you if you're determined to keep it. And the rest of Queen was OK too, lol.
Great Music, Great Musicians, Kick Ass Lead Singer. Also when the crowd is alive like that, recipe for Successful Show! Freddie was truly one of a kind!
the guy at 3'21" with the black tee has tears in his eyes, imagine how emotional that concert must have been..I being born in the 80s missed the best, know who is the best and stuck with the worst..Today's kids atleast are ignorant and they cant really be hurt by what they don't know..
Owning the stage. Owning the event. Owning the crowd. At the one time in history that the Planet came together in Love, Unity, Empathy and the rejection of poverty and gross injustice. To echo Bob Geldof's sentiments: What a Beautiful Day. For once in our lives We Fucking WON! RIP Freddie. Your immortality is assured.
So far, I don’t have that many regrets in my life. But I’ll always wish I’d gone to a Queen concert when Freddie was still with us. I’d still love to see one of their shows, even though it wouldn’t be exactly the same now.
Everything considered it's no real surprise that Queen and especially Freddie Mercury stole the show. Freddie Mercury excelled at live performances, he was such a sweet man he could easily find that perfect balance between being macho and effeminate. Plus the fact that he was such a genuine person, very pure in heart and soul. Brian May expressed his concern for Freddie's improvised part immediately after Radio Gaga but I think Freddie was completely aware of what he was doing & had such a feel for the crowd that he intuitively knew that he could get away with it. And as Paul Gambucchini stated the crowd really loved it.
safanup that's just the way Freddie was.... when he performed, he commanded your attention. Was it charisma? Presense? Talent? Hard to pick one because he had all of the above. No one has ever come close to him and they never will. Especially when other musicians, Hall of Fame musicians, etc all say Freddie is the benchmark and best, then it's unlikely anyone will ever steal his throne as King of the Stage. #Legend
In 1985 Queen really weren't that popular. They were loved in the 70's but started to fade. Of course they are now seen as one of the greatest rock bands of all time but without Live Aid and Wayne's World keeping them relevant they could just as well have been a great band of the 70's and nothing more.
Interesting history about the call and response, it wasn't there in the beginning. One day, very early in Queen's history, Freddie was very confused about how the audience was singing the songs as he was singing them, and Brian, I think, said "That's because you're a superstar, Fred." And he was like, "What? Why?" And Brian replied someting along the lines of "Have you ever seen a movie that you loved so much that you can repeat every single line said in it?" He's like "Yes." And Brian said "It's the same here. They love you, they love your music, they love your performance." He was blown away, and started to find ways to encourage it from then on out...and started to include the vocal exercises (Day oh, etc).
Brian always said it best.. "if you never played where you disagreed with the politics, you'd never play anywhere".... Screw Darryl whatever the hell his name was? No one ever remembers him now, but EVERYONE remembers Queen!
I was a teen at the time and me and some friends spent the whole day watching Live Aid, with lots of beer and barbeque. I was not a Queen fan then (I was too focused on punk and new wave), but when the show was over, we were unanimous that Queen absolutely ruled the event. Freddie's performance was better than all of the other artists combined that day.
The thing that makes it even more amazing when you think about it. This wasn't a Queen show this was a multi-band event, probably half the people in that crowd couldn't have cared less about seeing Queen when they got there and for Queen to win them over and get the overwhelming response they got REALLY shows how great they were. They weren't even given that great a spot they were on like midday just remarkable
The day I became a big fan of Dire Straits. But I was already fan of Queen. I miss the both of them. Although Mark Knopfler still gives concerts and play a few songs from the Dire Straits time. It is just not the same. Lots of people say that the 80ies were the worst years for the music. Perhaps I do not agree because the eighties were the best time of my life. But look at the bands and singers. Especially the British. Great liveperformers. If they want to give a tribute to David Bowie and George Michael, who is able to do that? I can only think of Maroon 5 and Coldplay.
Their performance really made it obvious, much to the annoyance of many other performers, that Queen was musically stronger than the others by a very wide margin.
Freddie was right: All we hear (now) is Radio Ca-Ca. Don't think he'd have enjoyed what popular music has become, as most of us don't. I always wondered what those people at Live Aid did if they had to pee? So many people!
Daryll Hall your only epitaph will read you dared to criticize the masters of the universe, And lost. this was a day it mattered not how much talent you had cos you blew it in seconds, you were but minions amongst the masters.
I was at Wembly with my missus in 1985 for that gig. Everyone else played "Three of your/our favourite tracks". Queen did a 25 minute show, and stole it completely. IMHO, of course - others will have differing opinions, and that's OK. Yer man had that crowd wrapped around his finger, and the crowd responded appropriately. BTW, there are other YT vids of this with far better sound quality than this clip...
The best live group of all time in my book. Nobody ever left a queen concert feeling cheated. Freddie was hands down the best front man on the planet, may he rest in eternal peace. Thank you for all the great music Freddie.
Randy Cable Freddie is a legend.... highly doubt he's ever going to give up his reign as The King of the Stage, even if he has passed. #Legend
You will feel well ripped off and cheated if you attended a Queen gig today with the awful Adam Lambert. What a con artist and fake.
@@gedbill4058 I had a friend tell me Adam Lambert could sing better than Freddie Mercury.
Freddie Mercury just came out there and did what he always has done and is still doing today.. kicking everyone's ass when it comes to performing on stage. The dude was a beast! We love you Freddie, and we still miss you! RIP. #Legend
so perfectly stated susan u read my mind haha
Amazing when you think about it though....just about every musician on the planet still consider Freddie the best. I don't think anyone would've thought Freddie would be so respected, revered, loved and missed as much as he is.
One and only...no one is nearly close to him...was and will be...
Susan Orchard wow
Freddie had vocal nodules AND laryngitis at live aid. Doctors advised him not to perform. He ignored them and this was the result.
All the more incredible when you think about it. :)
#Beast #Legend
In terms of all-time great frontmen of music, there is Freddie Mercury...and everyone else.
Mark Flanigan Freddie Mercury never gave up his reign of the stage, even after his passing. The dude kicks so much ass.
Freddie was spectacular!
This was and IS the best rock performance of all time, period!
To all the naysayers that were giving QUEEN flack - whenever people talk about Live Aid, this is what they talk about, enough said!
QUEEN rocked the world that day!
Flak, not flack.
The greatest gig of all time - magnificent and showed everybody else how it's done. Queen was Live Aid - everybody remembers this performance. - totally phenomenal!!
Steve Phillips Freddie just whooped everyone's ass....made it look easy.
I was 8 years old when live aid was aired, i watched it with my family and when Queen came on that stage, that was the moment i fell in love with music, Queen and Freddie. He was my first love and he will be my last!
Legendary moments of fabulous artist. Freddie is unforgettable. Thank you.
Pax Cat Freddie Mercury is irreplaceable....his passing still stings like it did in 1991.
I remember watching Live Aid...the only band I can remember is Queen...They are in a league all their own-untouchable.
Freddie is an amazing musician, he owned the stage
Tracey Mills no one comes close...not even 26 years later.
I recently stumbled across a video of Queens' performance at Live Aid and it jumped to the top of my best live performance ever list. he owned the world that day, much missed but thankfully still have his music
I have seen some really REALLY good live bands in my day but nothing will compare to this performance by Queen. There is a reason we are still commenting on it almost 40 years later.
Absolutely awesome piece of stage craft by the greatest in the business bar none!!
Dean Gould Freddie Mercury was a beast! #Legend
Freddie my love You’re still the King of Queen 👑💛💛💛
Nothing but hands in the air rocking out to Queen. No phones at all...
I can’t stop watching this. Freddie Mercury’s performance is mesmerizing. “A fascinating kind of power”
The command of the audience gave me chills. I was clapping in my living room at 15 with the world. Truly awe inspiring.
the greatest band ever no one will ever come close to these guys even god would bow down to them
James Russell Rush babyyy
You check your language dude. Know who you're getting past through.
Live Aid was a Queen concert with multiple opening acts and closing acts.
He is so talented and wonderful, the best ever love listening to his songs
Hello Melissa, how are you doing, hope you good?
Freddie so beautiful here.
A new research by sound engineers says that Freddy has a voice equal to Pavarotti in vibrato, range etc. We fans KNEW THAT ALREADY!!
Helen Eschenbacher true. Freddie was a rock singer with an opera voice.
Helen Eschenbacher - That note at 5:00 whoa!!!
Was known as the note heard around the world.
Actually the study says Freddie's even superior to Pavarotti!
Freddie's vibrato is faster than pavarotti.
My school friends and I had a huge party in Houston, Texas as we watched all day and we clapped along with Wembley to Radio GaGa. Fuckin' A. 🇺🇸 🇬🇧
I was lucky to get 2 tickets thru a guy I knew for live aid. Freddie stole the show!
As has been said before
"Freddie! Welcome to , the WORLD!"
Something nobody who was there will ever forget!
Stories about this day will be told till the end of time. The most epic live performance of all time.

The best 17-20 minutes live performance of a music set,
Mike Murray I've watched it so many times I still get chills.
Freddie you still wipe the floor with alot of "musicians" from today. My 4 year old loves you! Queens greatest hits in his little Cd player, TV control as a microphone in his hand and fist pumping the air just like you. Thank you for the joy ☆☆☆
As a teacher I can tell you with full confidence that Freddie Mercury would have made a great teacher!!!
William Henderson yeah he had laryngitis and was advised not to perform. If this was him with laryngitis, we can only imagine what it would've been like 100%
I was there. The most fantastic set of an immensely incredible day. As long as I live I shall never forget it.
Only queen could do a 20 min set like this. Unreal. Freddie is thee best frontman in history.
For 25 minutes of history, Freddie Mercury was GOD and proved that you can be whoever you want to be in this world and no amount of hate or criticism or pain or suffering or disease can take that away from you if you're determined to keep it. And the rest of Queen was OK too, lol.
Darrell Hall couldn't sing his way out of a paper bag, COMPARED to Freddie...
Lets be fair here... Only very, very few could!
Yeah
What was he saying about Freddie?
my dad went to live aid
ally mac he must be a nice guy!
Only if he/she exchanged bodily fluids with someone at that concert.
Great Music, Great Musicians, Kick Ass Lead Singer. Also when the crowd is alive like that, recipe for Successful Show!

Freddie and Queen were no-half-ass rockers. They gave the best show everytime.
Owning the stage.
Owning the event.
Owning the crowd.
At the one time in history that the Planet came together in Love, Unity, Empathy and the rejection of poverty and gross injustice.
To echo Bob Geldof's sentiments:
What a Beautiful Day. For once in our lives We Fucking WON!
RIP Freddie. Your immortality is assured.
I was 23. I remember this day very well.
Freddie was a great performer. The stage was a theatre to him.
So far, I don’t have that many regrets in my life. But I’ll always wish I’d gone to a Queen concert when Freddie was still with us. I’d still love to see one of their shows, even though it wouldn’t be exactly the same now.
Never knew they did another Live Aid in 1986. Thanks dude!
Everyone knows what they were doing when they saw Queen on Live Aid.. They were in front of their TV ;)
Everything considered it's no real surprise that Queen and especially Freddie Mercury stole the show.

*Freddie could have started a f-cking riot just with a nod...*
NickandM my thoughts exactly.
Legends!!!!!
Watching this live as a teenager, I remember being disappointed by most of the performances, until Queen.
"Would they pull it off?" oh, did they ever! Amazing! And I get chills every time I see the Radio Gaga clapping in the audience. Magical.
best hour and half of live aid Queen, Simple Minds ,Bowie
Why do they sound a bit surprised!? The GREATEST frontman ever to walk was on the stage. Could it have been any different!
In 1985 Queen really weren't that popular. They were loved in the 70's but started to fade. Of course they are now seen as one of the greatest rock bands of all time but without Live Aid and Wayne's World keeping them relevant they could just as well have been a great band of the 70's and nothing more.
Astoundingly good
You had the time you had the power you've yet to have the finest hour RADIOOOO!!!!!!!!
ALL WE HEAR IS RADIO GAGA
This was on at 3am where I lived. So I missed most of the good stuff.
Interesting history about the call and response, it wasn't there in the beginning. Brian always said it best.. "if you never played where you disagreed with the politics, you'd never play anywhere".... Screw Darryl whatever the hell his name was? No one ever remembers him now, but EVERYONE remembers Queen!
kijm brooks Freddie Mercury just bitchslapped everyone else that performed that day. Made them look like amateurs and he still does.
I was a teen at the time and me and some friends spent the whole day watching Live Aid, with lots of beer and barbeque. I was not a Queen fan then (I was too focused on punk and new wave), but when the show was over, we were unanimous that Queen absolutely ruled the event. Yes, I'm in love with a, dead, man. "I still love you."
Freddy Mercury has the best voice of my entire generation. How could he NOT be the best? I man you have to be delusonal to think otherwise.
Greatest live performance of all time.....end of story
The thing that makes it even more amazing when you think about it.

Y la Reina ....reinó. Llegó un SUNAMI. Y al final vino la reverencia a su majestad.
But Freddie Mercury was only just getting started..

Their performance really made it obvious, much to the annoyance of many other performers, that Queen was musically stronger than the others by a very wide margin.
