    LEGO is pricing itself out of the market, new sets are becoming ever more expensive and older sets are impossible to collect on a "budget". I couldn't care less if an old set is a copy and if LEGO does, they should have done a reissue.

      Luv all the KO brands out there, a tenth of the price of some of the new sets, yup the instruction manuals can sometimes be a little off with their colours, sometimes replacing dark purple with blue pieces etc, but overall the KO sets are a much better option especially with the over priced LEGO sets, I for one avoid buying actual LEGO sets at all costs. Order sometimes 4 or 5 sets from China at a time and usually get them all for under the cost of just one LEGO set. Recent purchases were Optimus prime, Simpsons house, up house, the large green lambo technic kit and ghost buster car, all for under £150 total including shipping from China to U.K., absolute bargain and not a single piece missing, all look and feel top notch, just waiting to build my forth ucs millennium falcon set from China, previously sold my other ones for more than double what I paid for them locally. Some people don’t like taking a risk buying from China, don’t know why, I’ve never had any issues, if anything if I ever have a problem and contact the sellers they usually just fully refund you or send out another complete set free of charge. Unlike buying anything from U.K. where customer services usually try give you the run around for weeks at a time and then make you jump threw so many hurdles you end up feeling like giving up. Everywhere should start taking a leaf out of the Chinese consumer market and price things accordingly and treat customers with the respect they are due. Love the Chinese market. Long May they continue to give excellent value for money.

      @@gaveintothedarknessNot even greedy. It’s called a niche in the market. If Lego isn’t making a set the custom market takes over, if people want the same Lego set but cheap, for display ONLY, that’s GREAT. People who want pure Lego and to collect, buy Lego!

  • @udomino

    I agree to you on a lot of points. But: The quality control of LEGO has gone down a lot. There are many problems with the colors of the bricks. My yellow Fiat 500 had at least 8 different shapes of yellow. Customers are reporting their problems with a lot of other sets. Reason for this is that LEGO has decided to color the base material on their own to save some money instead to buy the consistent already colored plastic granulat as before.
    Maybe you heard of Gobricks, this manufacturer produces the best bricks on the market.
    The price for LEGO sets have been increased a lot to help the billionaires in Billund with their financial problems. 30% higher prices are not caused by the world wide inflation, this is rip-off.
    Regarding long-term maintenance of value of the sets: It is not corrrect that it is possible to buy sets from chinese manufacturer many years after their release date, since they only sell them as long as there is a custumer's demand. And then you will also have to buy on ebay.

    I think the ethical side of giving money to a company that did not have to incur the design and development costs is mostly negated when it's a retired product. The only other option is to buy the official product on the second-hand market, in which case Lego would still not make any money, so you're not really stealing from them. Lego choose not to make this money by only offering products for a restricted time - that's their problem (and a decision that has complex economic reasoning behind it), but not our problem. The ethical argument is completely different for active products. I'd have no reservations against buying retired products in this way if the quality is decent. Thanks for the review.

    For hands on these just take the hand and have it take a lightsaber hilt or blade, then use that as leverage to attach the hand to the arm. It’s painless and secures the hand in place. The arms need to be placed and replaced a few times which isn’t bad. Move the right arm forward in relation to the torso and attach and replace, this hurts less and lets you use the length of the arm as leverage. For the left arm move the arm back in relation to the torso and do the same. I know it’s a lot to do but taking care of these requires just a bit more steps. Overall considering the savings these minor quirks are easy to put up with. If LEGO is beyond your budget these are decent enough. Looking at them as their own thing and not constantly comparing them to LEGO is also helpful. You know what you’re buying so why compare? If it bothers you just save up more and get LEGO but for the cash, you’re getting so much less plastic, specially for retired sets. And be honest how easily or frequently are most folk going to be reselling LEGO anyway? Love your wallet more and save substantially on these.

  • @yadabub
    @yadabub 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    It's much easier to insert the hands into the arms *before* attaching the arms to the torso. That rotation that you get from the shoulder joint doesn't seem like it would make much of a difference, but it really does. I've not broken a single hand since switching to 'hands first.' Nor does it ever take me more than one try to install the hands, no matter how tight they are.

    Great video!
    As much as I like Lego (well, the product, surely not the company), I have tried several other brands too. And mostly good experiences, even more so considering the low prices. That said, so far I stayed away from true knockoffs. I have bought one set of which I later found out that it's heavily inspired by a (rejected) Ideas submission, and honestly, I have more issue with them stealing from MOC designers (Mould King....) than copying sets Lego themselves aren't selling anymore.
    And sure, often you can see where they cut a few corners. But then again, Lego is cutting a lot of corners their own way, even when the prices keep going up. And ongoing quality issues are a lot harder to swallow at those inflated prices....
    My favorite "fake" brand so far is Loz, even when their bricks are 25% smaller and thus not compatible. But they do have a lot of nice set designs (the small Chinese and Japanese houses!), and they even have a few unique parts. One of which Lego recently straight up copied: the 1x1x2/3 "Baby D SNOT" piece...

    Well knock off lego's aren't that bad anymore.
    And since lego's licence patent ended a few years ago it's technically not illegal to make knock off's.
    I recently bought the 2016 Ninjago dieselnaut as an aliexpress knockoff. Because i didn't feel like buying it for 250. And holy shit. It looks so good and so real. The plastic quality on that set is good aswell. Only the knock off stickers are pretty crappy. But honestly even the knock off sets are really good. So if you have less money to spend, or looking for an older discontinued set and don't normally care about buying fake lego, aliexpress is your ebst friend

    • @Kuchenwurst
      @Kuchenwurst ปีที่แล้ว +6

      While the patent for the brick system is long expired, the designs of lego sets isn't. They're copyrighted, so you must be aware that you're buying a pirated product.
      Morally, there's nothing wrong with buying different brands who design their own sets, but brands using stolen designs are a different story. Everyone will need to sort this out with themselves.

    • @lf9179
      @lf9179 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@Kuchenwurst Ah thats right. Never thought of that before. But sometimes lego doesn't leave us with another choice unfortunately some knock off's are 4x cheaper then the real sets. Or the real sets are already expired

    • @Kuchenwurst
      @Kuchenwurst ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@lf9179 There's always a choice! There's three options to choose from here:
      1. Don't buy the set at all.
      2. Cough up the inflated prices for a used Lego set.
      3. Buy a reproduction set by a foreign manufacturer.
      The choice, with its consequences, is up to everyone who's interested in a particular set that's off the market already. :)

      Imagine relativising morality on the act of buying knockoff Lego sets instead of shilling out obscene amounts of money on overpriced, USED and DISCONTINUED legit ones because "piracy". The argument makes zero sense. Lego isn't going to make a single penny from sales of discontinued sets on the second hand market; the only ones who stand to lose anything are the "collectors" selling them for absurd prices, and even then not really, because nobody in their right mind would be willing to pay what they ask for anyway except for their fellow brand fanboys. Besides, Lego's been making slop nowadays anyway, that much is made clear in the minifigure department for stuff like Star Wars. Compare a Koruit clone trooper Fives with Lego's (wholly inaccurate) version of him they released this month with the Tantive IV hallway set; it's staggering how much better the knockoff is, and it has been in the market for a little over a year now. Lego had all the time to look at it and make something better but no, let's half ass it. The only good thing about it is the head piece and that's it. Prolly the only reason anyone will even want to get it in the first place.

    I collect the Lego skylines, but just for displaying them. The ones that aren’t sold anymore go up to 250 euros. The Ali ones around 20 so if I want one that isn’t around anymore I buy the Ali ones. They look pretty good. You can see the difference, but not as much that I wouldn’t accept them.

    Luv all the cheaper building bricks sets from China, sets are fantastic and much much more affordable and a more realistic price for a toy, haven’t bought any original LEGO sets for years now, purely down to the price LEGO charges, recently bought the new Optimus prime from alli express for under £20 including shipping from China to U.K., far far better than the £150 price tag for the LEGO set, and to be honest can’t really tell any difference with the finished model. LEGO needs to either reduce their prices significantly or they will go under.

    I have the Ghostbusters Firehouse by LEPIN. Ive had it a couple years now. Think I paid $150? I had no show stopping issue building it. 2 mis-formed blocks and 2? minor missing pieces. I was able to track down what I needed on Bricklink and pop them in. You cannot tell looking at the completed Firehouse which Red/Gray Blocks are Fake and which are the Lego the color is that close.
    The way I see it, LEGO retired the product. They weren't offering me a Product to buy from them. eBay Re-sellers were to the moon with pricing. I just wanted a Shelf/Display piece and the fun of building it. So.... Knock Off it was. No Regrets. It's aged just as well as the rest of my large LEGO sets minus the increase in value.

    It really sucks how the pieces don't really snap together.
    You called it harder fit but it's just the tolerances that are way worse.
    LEGO has very low tolerances so they'll always fit together even with pieces from 60 years go!
    Also you call it paint multiple times but LEGO isn't painted.
    The Plastic get's pigmented so there is no paint involved.

They all come EXACT brick-wise with all the little tools and quality printed bricks and stickers. While it's not called Lego it's just so similar, especially the way these copies are branded i.e the colours and typefaces used in their logos . I can't see how a seller could possibly avoid any legal consequences arising no matter what step they took.
