I Tried A TEMU Art Set..is it a LEGO ART Knockoff??

  • Today I tried out an art set kit from a seller on Temu that seems like a knockoff of the sold out Lego Starry Night Art set! I BOUGHT and tried out both art kits and compared the $170 vs $20 version. Which is better? Is this a true knockoff or is it legit?

    I LOVE nanoblocks! They're less protected than LEGO, so if you have anything that says "micro-sized building blocks" or something like that it's not the *legit* brand (but not all "fake" brands are bad)! This set definitely looks like a much bigger struggle than all of the ones I've done (probably because it's like a wall, not a figurine), I'd recommend going for something like the Pokémon ones if you ever want to try again!
    I personally like nanoblocks because I don't have a whole lot of space to keep built sets, but also wouldn't want to do a big set in one session

    • @RyanAlexanC

      Me too! I bought some cheap sets from Taobao (Chinese shopping site) and made them last year and absolutely loved it. I think I actually prefer the nanoblock type set to actual Lego sets. I got a Lego set for Christmas this year and it felt like going back to using Duplo bricks

      Loz is my favorite micro-sized building blocks, they have wonderful designs and are a joy to assemble. It's not a toy, though, since the ready pieces break easily. Lego's patent has expired, so all these "Blego" plagiates are even legal, as long as they use the lego brand.

    PHENOMENAL editing! I really appreciated the comparison - interesting to see that LEGO will always be more than "knock offs", but the quality of pieces and clarity of directions is always massively better. I'd love to see you try another one of these LEGO art pieces!

    I bought the Temu version a while ago! And honestly, I enjoyed it. I prefer the smaller size in terms of the end result. I will say my fingers were dead after as there were actually sharp edges and had a hard time connecting the last bits. I didnt have too much trouble with the manual personally and row order, though it took me a while to figure out the colors since they are so similar. I personally had a hard time pushing my weight to connect them near the end, and the last connection between the two large pieces were so hard! I have it still and although not the most stable, I still like my model. But its not for everyone

    As someone who’s ordered and built many micro, as well as mini, building block sets from Temu I must say that I love them. Yes they are tiny and a bit fidgety at times but once you get the hang of it the mini set are the same quality as LEGO. The micro sets are different quality but still well made. I highly recommend them.

    • @EccoXile
      @EccoXile ปีที่แล้ว +9

      The smaller sets are really fun! But I did a big set once and that was literally painful, my fingers hurt so much from the sharp corners! In the end it does look cool, is very sturdy, and has kept a prominent spot on a shelf. I think it is so so important though to do it a little bit at a time. I was just doing a few pages a night. I think doing it in one go is going to test your patience and be too prone to errors! Also pushing down all the pieces every few layers massively helps (I mean that's probably what hurt my fingers more in the end) seeing the gaps in the video was so hard to watch!

    • @thenoxbox3871
      @thenoxbox3871 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thank you for saying that. I have done several now, and I absolutely adore them. But I also have not had some of the same issues, yes, they are definitely less step-by-step than Lego, but I did several micros and then went back and did a Lego set and I almost thought it was ridiculous how Each step was just a couple blocks. Of course it also felt huge. The ones I have done so far. also were decent quality and I had no problem with them fitting properly.

      I have done several of these micro blocks figures and sets too and love them, yes they are tiny but I never found the instructions or the general assembly that difficult, that part where she mention the order was confusing, for me it was confusing just the first time, once you get the hang of it and understand the image is grey for the steps already done and then you build from the bottom to the top is very easy to follow. Other thing that was weird for me was the missing pieces part thought I have not tried this particular model, but all and I mean ALL of the models I have tried came with extra pieces as Im sure they know they are tiny and you might loose one 😂. Anyways, I think they are quite great for the money they cost and a lot of them are very cute, I even got the Pokémon or Totoro ones for my sister and she have then as decor among her shelves with the rest of her anime figures.

    Hullo Chloe, I have ordered from Temu and they are just not for better quality items. Cheap they do ok and you do get what you pay for! I was satisfied with the items that I purchased as I ordered lower quality supplies and they did not mess them up as there was not a lot of room to do so! I have wondered if anyone has been happy with their higher end knock-off items? Like this LEGO kit? Not worth the frustration to me. The editing was good. LEGO building is a very hard editing task! I am not sure how this style would work with your regular artwork but you could certainly give it a try if you wanted or you liked it, me, not so much. I love micro block builds - done about 50 sets. Once you get use to the build style (in multiple layers per each numbered step) you can blast thru builds relatively quickly... Try building sets that have creatures with floppy ears or legs, or waterfalls that are holding up floating land. I plan on building this set soon.

    If you contact Lego, they will should the missing pieces. You will need to get the part # from the back of the booklet. Usually in Lego sets, I have extra pieces. I usually find if I am missing a piece, I find it stuck in one of the plastic bags. Only once can I recall not finding a piece in my big Ferrari F40 kit. A single red tile was missing, and could not find it anywhere, but it is a fairly common one. I had another from an other Lego set.

    This is trippy timing as I just started building the Lego Starry Night on Monday, I did bags 1 & 2 then & bag 3 earlier today, so this was a bit like seeing spoilers lol. I've not been timing it because I'm watching at at the same time lol. I've built some pretty huge builds from them, so my advice is to take plenty of breaks: it'll save your fingers, eyes, bum & back (from sitting so long). Lego instructions have always been pretty good, but I feel like they have even improved over the last few years too. That said, because it was working layer but layer for that 3D effect, some of the pages added a lot of pieces all in one go/image (a couple of times I've missed a piece and had to go back, but for the most part it works out) I guess it's just I'm more used to their books that tell me to add three pieces in one step rather than 12 lol, but it does make sense here because of the way the layers are set up. Any time I think I was missing a piece it always turned out to be hidden under the booklet (also, am I the only one who spends 10 minutes organising the pieces into colours before starting? I find it so much less frustrating when looking for pieces). I have also been fascinated with how they built up the 3D element too, there has been some clever engineering going on in the design process, because that's all part of the aesthetic too it makes it very different to say the builds like quinjet I just built last week, a lot of which is mostly unseen structure that then gets covered with the aesthetic pieces, which is all different again from the big buildings.
    I'd also like to add something that Chloe didn't mention, but the first couple of pages of the booklet gives some interesting info about Van Gogh. Interestingly for me, I have a little booklet from years ago that didn't mention some of the things in it. Like how he had epilepsy. And I hadn't realised just how freaking prolific an artist he was in his relatively short life. Painting over 900 oil paintings alone (I believe over the 20 years). A Starry Night he painted while he was in an asylum that he'd checked himself into for his faltering health and he was painting it from memory because he wasn't able to see the sky at night. The tree is apparently a Cypress Tress, which the booklet says is an allegory for death, hinting hat perhaps he knew his death was approaching faster than it should be for a man in his mid 30s. He produced around 150 pieces in that last year when he was in the hospital (having been encouraged by the doctors to keep up his art for his own wellbeing). That level of output is wild to me, I know people who take months to produce just one painting.
    In comparison, that Temu build looked kind of hellish the whole point is that the pieces need to hold together, someone forgot to think that through. On the face of it $20 sounds great for what you're getting there, however I'd say someone clearly tried to do a version of the Lego one (I can't say rip-off can I?) For as cheap as possible, unfortunately it's shows, because Lego have big teams of people who work on these builds to ensure they make sense and are workable. Obviously I've not tried building their version, but it doesn't look like anywhere as much thought went into the design process and definitely not into the instructions.
    I'm looking forward to finishing my Lego Starry Night off and seeing the finished piece, I need to figure out how I'm gonna display it.
    Oh,Chloe, if you have missing pieces, contact the Lego customer service, they're apparently usually pretty good according to my brother (as long as you're not obviously pulling something by saying there are like dozens of pieces missing). I've never needed to message them as I've never missed a piece. I think you just have to look up the codes in the back of the booklet for the missing piece(s).

    I mean, considering the Temu one is 1/9th the price of the lego one it’s a great deal for what you get. I could never spend $100+ on a small Lego set

    I bought a small lego version of a really cool looking cherry tree. I built it but pieces were not connected like yours.... It has been thrown in a box until I buy glue to glue the pieces together. I feel your pain hahaha
    I love how both of yours turned out!

    Hullo Chloe, after re-watching this I thought you did a wonderful job with putting these kits together! LEGO does have a great reputation and many believe it is well deserved, I have often had trouble following the instructions and I have built a lot of LEGO “things” I do not believe that you should be upset for getting help. If you need help with a project you should get it! From putting something together or making stretcher bars to even editing the video, get help if you need to get help! Thank you for sharing this building video. I found parts of it a bit jarring but that is just the speeded up quality of fast video! I hope you get your living and working spaces figured out for everyone, good luck!

    When you make the wave, you should use a couple of wider Lego pieces turned sideways as temporary feet to keep the back wall upright and steady while you put it together.

    I’ve only seen/heard bad things about TEMU, in particular they’re straight up stealing pictures and designs from artists and profiting off them themselves, so it doesn’t surprise me it was poor quality. Yes, it looked like starry night but not worth the effort in comparison to the Lego version!

    One thing that you didn’t cover, at Temu there is not one Temu brand, there are several different brands of building block companies, in different levels of sizing as well.

    If you go on to the customer support page Lego offers to send you any missing pieces completely free. I’ve used it a few times since a lot of sets my mom buys for my baby brother end up missing a piece or he loses it and still demands I build it right.

    Lego will always be my go-to for building sets like this. I got a foco brixilz football helmet set as a present a few years ago as a gift. I opened the set and saw that the pieces were way too small for me to handle. Thankfully, I didn't open any bags, so I put the bags back in the box and re sealed it. Still need to sell the set over 5 years later, which I would rather use that money to save for a big Lego set or maybe some retired parts to finish some projects I don't know.

    A way for 2 people to build at the same time is to have one person sort and give pieces and another does the building

    Micro blocks are really fun, but you need patience... And the underside of the blocks aren't the same as Legos either, they can slide. I like to use water soluble glue when I'm doing the kits. I've done lots of pokemon ones. Now those can be evil.

    I think I got for Christmas the middle set of this. The Lego one seemed a lot easier than mine and the instructions seemed a lot better. However, I didn't have the micro blocks the Temu version had. 😐However, it felt like it took forever... and the pieces didn't necessarily lock in the way they were supposed to. I actually had to take blocks away to get them to fit! 🤨I loved your comparison video! 😁

    Just leaving a comment, just got to the point Chloe said she couldn't get her brother's help. I have built the lego Death Star with my brother and we would have one person find the pieces, second person put it together. So you usually overlap on pages, and worst case, you are only one page off, which is manageable.
    Love your videos!
