    Patty! You have your own little tropical oasis! It's breathtaking how beautiful it is! I see why you've tolerated all of the issues you've had with that roof! Lol!
    On another note, I adore your videos. As a huge, nature person, I so appreciate the shots of the mountains, animals, trees and plants. Coupled with your soothing voice, it puts me at ease! Thank you so much for putting this content out here for us to enjoy and dream about us having our own little oasis one day😊

    Patty. I really really hope that your problem with the roof is fixed. I’m Panamanian and have lived in the US for more than forty years. One of the things I love about living here in USA is that most people take pride and joy in doing a good professional job. And if not, there are offices where I can report them. But in my country, good luck. My husband and I moved to Panama about ten years ago and decided to build a custom home. What a nightmare that was. I only lasted about five years living in Panama and came back alone. The stress of building that house was one of the reasons for my separation and divorce. You look like you have a lot of patience. I hope you make it in Panama. You’re slowly realizing how difficult and frustrating is to find good and reliable workers.
    Do you know what “mañana” is in

    Wet season's just starting. Little late, actually. Rain just becomes more frequent and heavier week by week until usually mid-November when gets to almost rare when it isn't raining or about to. Weather forecasters can pretty much mail it in. Same every day until what used to be around December 10 but over the last 10 years or so it's been lasting longer. Now, the rains are lasting into very late December. Then, unlike in the temperate weather zone they don't slowly lighten up ..... they just STOP one day and there's not another drop of rain until May when it starts the cycle again slowly. This analysis has been brought to you from an old, retired man on the Pacific side with nothing better to do than sit on the patio drinking beer, smoking dope and watching the storms come in . Tough job, someone's gotta do it. You'll get cleaning up down to a mindless science after a while. Enjoy the ride .....

    Patty, I continue to love your videos.
    I think that is because, it's clear to me that you're a very smart woman, and your mind is in a very healthy and peaceful place. I'm in a similar great place as well. I just love my life.
    Just like you, I went through an unhealthy relationship. As a man, I have found a life without the drama of women to be exactly what I needed. You seem to have found the same with your life in Panama.
    Since you're a life coach and helper to other women, it is wonderful that you can explain to women that they don't need men. Just like guys don't need women.
    For me, the secret to happiness is simply to enjoy a wonderful independent life in this world. Staying healthy, and helping other people that may need help is all we need in life. It's just wonderful to get to that realization, especially as we get older.

      Congrats to you for healing from that unhealthy dynamic and for creating a mental and emotional space where you are happy and thriving!!! It takes a LOT of work to attain that. And sadly, many people don't. I know exactly what you mean 😄I'm so content with my solo life and never in a million years did I think I'd be ok with that, let alone happy! It's so important for us to have a healthy and loving relationship with ourselves. So happy to hear that you've done that.

      @@Pattybluehayes Absolutely. It is a wonderful realization about life and what it means to be happy. And this realization for me is one of the reasons that I'm looking forward to moving to Panama. I enjoy socializing very much. I miss that somewhat, now that I'm retired. Also, I do currently live in a remote location. I do know a lot of my neighbors and I try to socialize with them. But, I need more. I want to not only find a place in Panama where I can meet lots of expats and lots of the locals and be a part of a wonderful community. But, since I have done so much in my life, I hope that I have something from my experience that would be useful and help others benefit from that.
      It will most likely going to take me a while in Panama for me to find that goldilocks spot. The right temperature and the right lot to make a home. I'm now thinking that I'll be happy with about 1 or even 0.5 hectare of productive farm land. At my age, a small house is all I need. I would just add some sheds and other buildings to the land to use as a workshop.
      I don't know if Volcan will be too cold for me. But, I've heard that temperature in Panama comes down to how high up from sea level I end up going. But, I know that I'll find a place and it will be just right. Life is good.

      @@Pattybluehayes You were in Volcan, correct? Are there areas close to Boquete and Volcan that are close enough to that fertile volcano and beautiful towns, but also with comfortable somewhere in the 55 to 85 degree weather range throughout the year?
      I love the beaches, but only as vacation spots. I'm not too comfortable with humidity all the time. But, I have always loved the mountains. I don't mind it if the temperatures go down into the 50s late at night. And 85 tops during the day, is fine for me. The rain doesn't bother me. It will have some control over my schedule, but I do adjust to such things nicely.

    Oh wow! the rain is a downpour but so lovely too😊 Those trial & error times with the leaky roof really are a "trial". Just curious, did you have a contract with the roof repair guy or not? If not, I would have a contract drawn up either with a lawyer or by yourself for any future work being done in your home. I would have the contract state the nature of the work, (ie roof, plumbing, ect...) what is being done, who is doing it, start date & end date, will receive payment when job is completed. If there are any damages to property while doing the work, deduction will be taken out of proceeds or repair needs to be done before being paid for the job. I think that might help sift out the doers and the rest. We had to start doing that every time we got a contractor to our home for repairs because it was too frustrating other wise. It also put them on 'notice' that we are not messing around with crappy work.

    • @Pattybluehayes
      @Pattybluehayes  14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      One more month of rainy season! I'm ready for summer. Do you live in Panama and do that type of contract? As much as it makes sense, it's just not something that's done here in the small towns for small jobs. I had to pay toward my final bill because he needed money for his medication. Operating a business here is very different than in the states. These guys are local, hard-working locals who write receipts by hand and have to ask friends with a car to transport their ladders. They don't have insurance coverage and are mostly living day-to-day. My roof was complicated from the start and once he was able to determine the issues, it's been good. But what a Loooooong road to get there!!!

    Hi Patty
    I know you’re probably frustrated for good reason. In your video you talked about how when it rains, because concrete is porous, water seeps into your home. Maybe this is an opportunity, after everything dries, to coat the concrete with an elastomeric sealer that can be painted the color you want?…just a thought? Regards

    • @Pattybluehayes
      @Pattybluehayes  23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes! I had the front exterior wall sealed but not the bamboo-facing side. But now that the roof doesn't extend as long because of the gutter installation, I've noticed that water is getting onto and into that concrete.

    I think those guys just wanted you to keep calling them to "fix" the roof. More money for them. Remember the golden rule in Panama: Not a penny until the job is complete. Consider any worker suspect or untrustworthy if he/she can't accept that.

    • @Pattybluehayes
      @Pattybluehayes  23 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I do think the initial roof install was the cause of many problems. It was a roof covering where the container was, so it wasn't built to be a secure enclosed area I suppose. There was a guy who definitely kept 'finding problems' or maybe creating them, but I do believe Amado is conscientious. That said, let's see if he follows through on restoring my exterior wall from that paint spill 🤨

    Patty, I like your videos and was happy to see such a beautiful bird in the rain on your property but then quickly mortified me when you explain that a bird hit your window & your cat got it while in distress! Oh my gosh! I have a bird & a cat & that’s upsetting. I wish you would have deleted that horrible part. I know it’s just nature but that was awful after you just showed us a lovely bird. Why keep such horror in your video? And no one mentioned it?
    I am also sorry to hear about your roof but it definitely makes me think twice about moving back to Panama. If good help is that hard to find, then it’s not for me & that saddens me. All the videos I watch are trying to show me the great things weigh out the bad things, but your continued roof issues are truly not fair to you & leave many of us with a negative opinion of the handyman you have & the shotty work available in Panama.
    This video bothered me in many ways. I am sorry.
