But it is the limit of Rautavaara. His music is interesting but the range of what he does is actually very narrow, and after listening to just a handful of work, you can see that he only does again and again the same things in slightly different clothing.
What a stunning introduction; a minute in and I'm already enthralled. Probably one of the greatest openings to any violin sonata I know, I got major chills at 1:56.
I absolutely love this piece. I do find a bit more power in Hillary Hahn’s rendition, but this is what I consider the “original” as it’s the one I’ve heard the most.

Here, lsiten how ascetic sections (for instance the evry begnning) gets mùore and more musical density until a little 'climax' where this writing is renewed and deeply varied

Rautavaara had a vision of transcendental sounding...his harmonic structures are incredible beautiful...great composition
A lot of his ideas in this piece mirror his motifs in Cantus Arcticus. Really beautiful.
