_It was my greatest triumph, and I never looked back._ _You think I was afraid, fleeing Brennenburg? Quite the contrary._ _I knew that it was my purgatory - hellfire made to wash away my sins._ _There is no denying the things I've done. But I have paid my tribute. I gave them that awful man..._ _...I did the right thing._
This game is a lot different than any other game. The thing about this game is that Daniel's character is actually like someone you would see in real life. He's afraid of the dark, monsters, and he actually stops and says stuff in the game like,"I must find her!" But the thing is that in other games, you get hit a whole like 600 times and still don't die. This game is about 90% realistic.
Just finished this game today, got this ending. I nearly cried when this music began, and when Daniel's final dialog played. When I bought this game, I expected it to be nothing more than a game full of jump-scares and tedious puzzles. I bought it for the fright factor, and nothing more. I never expected it to be such a beautiful work of art. Truly this game needs to be recognized, not only for its astonishing atmosphere and gameplay, but for its unforgettable story.
I love how you didn't just use pictures, but parts from the game, where you could tell that it wasn't a picture because of candlelight, even if the player was still.
I totally agree. The feel of the game was totally different when you immersed into the game by reading all the notes and flashbacks through and pondering the story while advancing. Sure I loved the thrill of being scared and spooked out but I loved the story and concept much much more.
Daniel really is a great character. His story follows the hero's journey formula. A regular man who has uncontrollable circumstances force him to leave his home and go to Brennanburg. Throughout his adventure he overcomes his fears of the dark and monsters and even his own crushing remorse. He could have just left Brennanburg after drinking the amnesia potion but he chose to redeem himself, even though a higher power didn't ask him to. He chose to simply to right his wrongs. He overcame all the odds against him and emerged victorious (assuming you chose his ending) and walks away from Brennanburg a changed and stronger man.
Best horror game of all time. Best soundtracks from a game. Best storyline. Best everything. i love this game. it will be my favorite game till the end of time.
"It was my greatest triumph...and I never looked back. You think I was afraid fleeing Brennenburg? Quite the contrary. I knew that it was my purgatory -- hellfire made to wash away my sins. There is no denying the things I've done. But I have paid my tribute. I gave them that awful man...I did the right thing."
Beautiful piece, absolutely love it. Amnesia is one of the greatest horror games i've ever played, and Frictional games should be recognized and congratulated for this small piece of art they have spent all their hard earned work on =)
This music is beautiful. The composer definitely put their heart into this piece, and it was obviously arranged according to how Daniel felt. The great feeling of redemption, freedom, and leaving a hellish nightmare behind him. This game is seriously amazing. Not only because it's scary, but because it's instantly a classic and easily one of my favorite games of this generation.
Amnesia: The Dark Descent is a game that forces us to readjust our common knowledge about Good and Evil. In the beginning, we think Daniel is the victim and Alexander the bad guy, but as we progress, we see Daniel is not so innocent himself, showing the capabilities of humans when their own life is threatened. This game shows what time and patience can bring. I really respect Frictional Games for this piece of art and whoever says otherwise is a blind idiot that never played/watched the game.
*Spoilers* This was the first ending I played and I liked it. But then I felt bad for Agrippa. I mean, he was always there like a friendly relief after a scary bit. (Well, technically not always, but most of the final section.) Plus, I had gone through all the trouble of creating his potion and chopping off his head that it seemed a such a waste not to save him.
Listening to the music and reading the comments has brought me to a new perspective of Daniel I can see myself going through this journey more instead of playing a game... It so sad but beautiful
Finished and seriously paid attention to this music. It's one of the happiest pieces of music I've heard in the game (or the ONLY) It's like, as he's walking from Brennenburg, he's walking to a new life... I cried when it played :') What a fantastic game.
@Puchigardiechan I read that in perfect time with the music.. Thanks for showing the true beauty of Amnesia.. This game is so amazing, I wish I could play it.. But I get scared too easily.. But, I've seen many playthroughs of it, and it is such an amazing game.
Yep, that's true! And I've started to help Daniel now, by playing Amnesia... Couple of weeks ago I was too scared to try it but now I've completely won my fears. Or maybe almost won, because I still frighten from the suitors, grunts and brutes.
This game was absolutely amazing, it was terrifying, challenging, gripping and just an amazing story. I hope that they make another soon and that it is just as good because I can't see how they can surpass Amnesia: The Dark Descent.
I think you might've misunderstood the person. He doesn't even mention playing to win, he says play for the story and not the fear, which is exactly what the developers intended.
@JennIttlesxo I fully agree. This game was nothing else than a piece of pure art, unforgettable in it's beauty and the impact it had on me. With it's music, lights, and the incredibly climatic and well designed story. A game I'll never, ever forget.
I agree with you, while I do like the scares it brings, it's all tied to the storyline. The story of Amnesia was absolutely like no other, and the scary aspect just tied it in. I feel bad for the people who ignored the story, as it would've made the game truly amazing. This soundtrack is very powerful and sad. I'm glad people other than myself appreciate these tracks composed for such an emotional game. Amen, my friend. :)
Lots of passion has been put into Amnesia's music, too. Other scary games just want scary music to take its toll on the player. Yet, why Amnesia is such a beautiful game, despite Mr. Happy Face's beautiful face... is because of the effort put into theme music that circles itself around the actual plot line itself instead of how scary the game really is.
Both origional and awesome! Amnesia is a game that will frighten you to the bone, and it will make you want to continue playing no matter how scared you get! Best First-Person Surival Puzzle Horror game ever!!

I played lot of games, that deserves really good critics. I liked them, but they were nothing to this amazing game. This game will never be forgotten...
I actually hate most horror games, but I love Amnesia. I was so enveloped in the story and so invested in Daniel's character that I just had to keep playing no matter how terrified I was (and I was pretty damn terrified). I think this song perfectly sums up the atmosphere of the game, and yes, it does move me to tears.
That's just it, bro. Pigs are something that we normally view as domesticated or at least calm and not wild like other animals. When we play AAMFP we will be scared of pigs because they will not be behaving normally, and we don't know what to expect...
"Courage is not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it." It doesn't matter if you're still scared of them, as long as you're facing your fears, you've won them.
2:24 Hey, you took a video of me chasing Daniel through the cell's hallways? I WILL KILL YOU, oh hey an orb, *Ball squeak* Oh, it's just a child's toy.
its strange though to find out daniels life before he lost his memmory, you really have to interpret his letters and diaries and find out context clues to his life before the the conflict. All i know is that he was an archaeologist from the 19nth century who one time found a tomb containing a magical orb.. i really dont want to get into much detail but i know that the story is epic XD
Sanity is for the weak! Anyhow, I love this piece and I think the video is also really nice. Makes me want to help Daniel surviving in Brennenburg's castle... (At least there would be one lantern more.)
this music shows achievment through hiding through that first monster- to killing a ghost. How can you kill the undead? is he undead? there were points with no hiding spots, although you made it through. You got your revenge. now time to go tell everyone the story. such a sad sad story...
i bought the game recently but i am joking when i say i can play it truth is im scared out of my mind... but after hearing this im definatly going to man up just to hear the music and see the story unfold.
@everyone who thinks Frictional Games should be reconized: I think they actually won an award for Amnesia. Idk if it's true, but they SO deserve it! :D
This video looks like it could be a trailer for the game. Especially from 2:20 and onwards. And although Daniel escapes the castle for this ending, I always wonder if he would have been scarred for life. He'd be the most paranoid and jumpy person in society. XD
@elizahime it was the ending when u had to Make the Tonic the full tonic if u dnt u die and i dnt think u get to hear this song=( but it is a lovely song isnt it?
best game ever made. this will remain the best game ever made imo. A machine for pigs wont be as good as this one. im still gonna play a machine for pigs. but idk this is BY far the best game i have ever played.

After a whole game of freaking out in a dark room, never knowing when deformed monsters will pop out of nowhere, I believe this song is well deserved.
I totally agree. The feel of the game was totally different when you immersed into the game by reading all the notes and flashbacks through and pondering the story while advancing. Sure I loved the thrill of being scared and spooked out but I loved the story and concept much much more.
I Love Daniel and Alexander's voices. I Love the music just as much. I Love the game more than everything that makes it up.
This sounds like dramatic music that would play at a funeral in a movie
Yes, indeed. ;-;

This song makes me sad for some reason. And I haven't even played it yet. :"(
Play this game...
You will/might be stupendified!!!
What is it about this piece of music that saddens you?
***** IDK, it just does...
RemixTheGame I don't understand you. xD
+RemixTheGame Played it yet?

This game is a truly work of art. Unforgetable. Amazing.
Not a single dislike on this video. Beautiful song, and an amazing game. I hate scary things, but this game always has me coming back for more.
Beautiful. I really like the atmosphere :)

Wow...I never realized how gorgeous this music is. Just...wow.
It really gets less scarier when you do it.
Beautiful gameplay footage!
I love the music in the custom stories, it's always so beautiful
This track is also listed and known as " Lux Tenebas ".
Which means " After darkness, light ".
Good, I've finally found the sensible part of TH-cam. Ima hang here for a while.
If I sit back and relax while listening to this music, I get the sickest chills and feeling. I can only describe this song with one word: Legendary

This are the kind of games that you will consider art; while there are some other that are just for entertainment.
i finished the game 2 times and I want again to play when i listen to this beautiful music
This song is about redemption and hard earned victory its truly a masterpiece

One of the few truly beautiful games out there.
This game was my best gaming experience! I can't forget it! NEVER FORGET AMNESIA! Such a great game, such a great experience! Unforgetable...

THIS GIVING ME CHILLS !!! SERIOUSLY , I CAN FEEL THEM !!! THIS IS BEAUTIFUL , I HAVE TEARS IN MAH EYES !!
i never looked back
When I beated the game and listened to this, it made me feel somewhat stronger toward my fears and great to defeat them. ( 0:00 - 2:20 )
Unforgetable game with fantastic music.
This song was so perfect for the Crucible of the Night theme in the custom story Wake.
@DoctorRainbow8321 agreed. i actually did know of Penumbra years before Amnesia came out, i just never had the chance to play that game.
@TheKovajatka Simple. Go through the game, and in the Inner Sanctum, push the pillars, so you'll get Daniel's ending.

@Runaan you can copy the .ogg files out this folder : C:\Program Files (x86)\Amnesia - The Dark Descent
edist\music
the new Amnesia is an indirect sequel and takes place in the world of Amnesia
@Sagdashin Absolutely, my friend. Best horror game i've ever played in my entire life.
I feel ya bro, Im in for total control and being the character
Sanity is for the weak!
Anyhow, I love this piece and I think the video is also really nice. Makes me want to help Daniel surviving in Brennenburg's castle... (At least there would be one lantern more.)
I can't wait for the sequel!
Love that game forever.
amnesia the Dark Descent is by far the best game ive ever played
thats my favorite music of the game
Daniel's a fuckin champ! :>
I love this music and this game. ;___; Daniel...♥
This game was the best game I have ever played when it comes to this genre. Common, run-of-the-mill FPS shooters have NOTHING on Amnesia.
Моя любимая игра ! Хоть сюжет здесь и тривиален, особенно для ценителей Лавкрафта...
however,I find myself at this game.thats why I love this game,The best game ever I ve played.
God this song is so beautifully tragic
such a great game, and such awesome music
Would you fear a machine?
I demand to have this played as I die.

They should make a movie... to cry again xD
show respect for the game! :)
This is fucking beautiful.
Best horror game in my life.may be classical style? i dont know but it was great game for me.
@JordanMaster22 I tried to do that in-game when he said that, but the camera refused to turn all the way around :(
i bought the game recently but i am joking when i say i can play it truth is im scared out of my mind... but after hearing this im definatly going to man up just to hear the music and see the story unfold.
*clicks play button*
*mouth hangs open*
*pauses video*
*mouth closes*
...WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?!
As I said numerous times, your way of fun is not the same for everyone. Get that through your head.

best game ever made. this will remain the best game ever made imo. A machine for pigs wont be as good as this one. im still gonna play a machine for pigs. but idk this is BY far the best game i have ever played.
I love this
why would anyone dislike this?
It's fun to blow things up, shoot things and get your kick of violence every now and again, but games with plot are a form of art.
I wanted to hear the whole thing at the credits DDDDD :
@RedMilkproductions It ticks me off when people only know about frictional games because of amnesia. Penumbra needs some love, too.
I play the cello and i wish i knew how to play this :D
Second best game ever made if you ask me
@reallycrazy6fan Indeed! It's much, much more...You just have to immerse yourself in it~
Man, you have balls. I never dared to look at the shadow.
I just ran like a bitch on steroids.
Amnesia stand next with Shadow of the colususs for this my friends of internet and beyond... is Art
Why can't I buy the soundtrack at Frictional Games' store. D: I must have this.
