@@blasterman789 c'mon dude.. more talented than Lennon?? He was heavily influenced by the Beatles just like the other 1000 or more US garage bands, UK bands hell the world that all first heard, please please me, I get your love for Syd, I love Syds music, but really? That comment is just absurd and just plain silly.
Im 59yrs old. Ive listened to a lot of music. I’ve played a lot of music. I’ve tried to write songs… sometimes successful sometimes sucked! I think because I’m jaded and my brain is full of cliches🙄. After hearing Syd I feel free! He taught me how to just go where the words and music take me! When a 20 something yr old kid whom I never really “heard” before can inspire an old codger like me to re think my whole perspective …. that is a gift! I also think Syd was a very brave individual! More so than most! It takes courage to put your balls on the table like he did. He wrote and laid it all out there, like it or not! I really have come to admire Syd as an artist and a person. I know he had problems.. was he crazy? I dont think so… they didnt have the meds or understanding of anxiety related issues back then! And hallucinagenic drugs wouldnt have helped! He so obviously couldnt stand being regimented artistically and I believe he made a conscious decision to bow out of the industry’s Bs! I feel a “kinship” with him.. When i was young I won awards for my guitar playing … had some admiration from peers , friends , even musicians I looked up to. I suffered from chronic anxiety and it made me push back… i wouldnt or couldnt stand the demands. I made a conscious decision to fade into obscurity and play with my friends and express myself for my own enjoyment. I think Syd knew his talent wasnt wasted, he made his point. He was already a star and still is… just complicated to most people. They dont understand… I “think”? I do 🤔 Anyway… Syd, you gained another new Fan ! I get it! 😉

Remembering Syd Barrett born on January 6, 1946. He was an English singer, songwriter, and musician who co-founded the rock band Pink Floyd. Barrett named the group, was their original front-man, primary songwriter. He began a brief solo career in 1969 with the single "Octopus", followed by albums The Madcap Laughs (1970) and Barrett (1970), recorded with the aid of members of Pink Floyd. - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Syd_Barrett
Early Bowie was absolutely soaked in Barrett's influence. This could be something from Space Oddity, easily. Edit: I know "Oddity" came out before this, but we all know Syd Barrett was writing in this style before Bowie ever did.
@@Alix777. Bowie actually assumed Syd to be the first guy he heard to sing pop or rock with a British accent and had that he had an "enormous impact” on his way of thinking
Miles Jackson you talk rubbish, if you can't understand or appreciate Syd's work then fuck off, your opinion is not of any importance because you have come up against a genius. Keep your shallow remarks to yourself and let us who can try to begin to understand the brilliance of Syd's work just gaze in awe.
Dude listen to some David Gilmour interviews talking about producing Madcap laughs. He said syd was done and producing the album was a mess and she was incoherent half the time
As it is this stands as one of the most genius songs ever written, imagine if produced so as "I am the Walrus", its only psydelic equal
I mean this with total and objective sincerity, but Syd was more talented than JL.

That was very beautifully put!
Barret could read the contents of a shampoo bottle, come up with a melody and make it a hit.
basically what he's doing
maybe back then.
