  • I recently canceled my AI subscription for the Birdfy because it just isn’t very useful. It costs almost $50.00 for a year and even at today’s prices that will buy a lot of bird feed.

    Yes! No need for the subscription. The birds can even be identified right from the native photo app on iPhone which I have found to be 100% accurate even at odd angles. lol.

    I've used Merlin since it came out, and before that, I used the Cornell website, which I still go back to sometimes. I tried the Audubon app, but it takes forever just to load. The thing that I really don't like about what you have is that it doesn't take into account your location, half of the IDs are of birds that are not from your area.

    • @LSatch
      @LSatch  ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree. Until it gets a lot better I'll just stick to watching what landed during the day.

    $50 per month is an astronomical amount for such a subscription in my opinion. I pay less than half that for my computer's antivirus subscription for the whole year.

    Am old school and still just get out my books and or ask my neighbor who's lived here forever.
    Fifty dollars is two months of bird food or deer corn.
    Surely there are better wildlife cams. Very informative as I'm looking for security and wildlife cams.
    I've a 1936 bird book with gorgeous plates..not Audubon
    Trade for an old drafting table 🤔.

    • @LSatch
      @LSatch  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Those old books are beautiful. It’s a great camera and the company NETvue has several different models for home monitoring. They just can’t get the birds right. After much reflection, I should have never fallen for the identification feature. There are only a hand full of species that visit a given area and except for the occasional different birds passing through, they are just the usual birds you see every day.

      Bought all the old fashioned tools last to years to build birdhouses cause of you.
      However, my hands quit working for any fine handwork so I'll be putting them online.
      My son's not interested.
      Got two old drills and about a hundred bits.plus saws. Will send you a picture after we do outside today.

    Do you have a problem with your camera picking up the motion from that suet feeder in the background? I have just put my feeder up in really the only place I can, and there is a tree in the background. Whenever the wind blows the feeder goes off and records. I can’t find anywhere to adjust the sensitivity of the camera.

    • @LSatch
      @LSatch  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No I don’t have that problem but there is a lot of space in front of it. Open the app and you should see a ⚙️. Open it add one of the first things you see near the top is motion detection, open that and change the sensitivity settings.
      Hope this helps.

      I have a video for what works for me. th-cam.com/video/dmsd167UqI4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=kFgrW1KGC_UJXC9X
      You could also try a product called tanglefoot. It’s really sticky stuff the squirrels and raccoons won’t go past. About 10-12” below the feeder. It will also catch any insects that land on it, including pollinators.
      Hope this helps

    If you were into tinkering with computers, there are a few open source projects for building your own bird recognition system. I wouldn't be surprised if this product had borrowed from one of those.
