    This is a major safety issue in baseball. It's to the batter's advantage to creep back, and it's in the catcher's advantage to creep forward. Getting hit with a backswing like that can be a very serious head injury. Neither the catcher nor the batter technically did anything illegal, yet the backswing hit him very squarely in the head. MLB and fans are only going to start taking it seriously when somebody "important" gets a career ending or fatal injury from this

    • @adamleblanc5294
      @adamleblanc5294 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +31

      This is why I'm 100% on the pitchers side here. He should have been ejected, that's fair, but intentional or not, catchers have been getting hit way more than usual this year, and it's always the same guys with big followthroughs doing it. The message needs to be sent that "hey, you need to control your bat". It's not like the pitcher threw it in a dangerous spot, it was middle of the body to send a message and I'm fine with that. This sort of thing wasn't a big problem in years past, but a lot of guys have adopted this big follow through and it seems like catchers are getting nailed every other game now. Something needs to be done about it, and if the league can't figure something out, I'm fine with a few bruised hips to send the message.

Considering the avg mlb pitcher now throws 95+ mph and the avg hitter hits around .250, he's going to use the back of the box. That's why it's there. I got an idea, if the batter is, presumably in the batter box, the catcher should be back enough, like maybe a designated spot, somewhere he can't possibly be hit by a back swing

      @@kennethpierson82 Or a simpler solution, the batter keeps both hands at the bat, this one handed followthrough is the most unnecessary nonsense that they have ever started in baseball.

    Let me say, as a Cardinals fan, this was so hard to watch. Just embarrassing for Mikolas. I could care less about the "unwritten rules" BS. That was a COWARD move by him. I apologize on behalf of the Cardinals fanbase. I promise we are not all on Mikolas side on this one.

      No one needs an apology, the Cardinals embarrass themselves so much that we’d be here all day. May as well apologize for being in Missouri too.

      As a cards fan, I sometimes feel like this team has so many old timers that are still holding up these stupid unwritten rules (and many in the fans as well) that it's not surprising talented young players don't want to play for us.

    Retaliation possibly cost his team the game. Changed the whole momentum. Stupid move on Mikolas part. Next time just strike the man out and talk your shit as he’s walking back to the dugout instead of giving them a run.

      The size and location of batters boxes haven't changed in like 100 years. It's not possible for batters to be crowding any closer than they have been.
