is anyone else worried why jerry only has 3,900 ICP (3,333 staked +500 )
Seems like an alarming small portfolio if he is all in. Assuming he bought at $5 a coin this is less than $20,000 for his whole poetfolio. I would if assumed someone who has been making making monet in crypto for 10 years.
i love ICP and Jerry, just slighty worried why his portfolio is so small. i would of guessed he would of had millions in there
May be he just is trying to encourage to be interested in this ICP not only those who have a lot more capital to invest.
In general it is considered a VERY bad taste to flaunt ones fortune in public because it is just inviting robbers and extortionists. I would take 3333 number as just symbolic representation of a maximum investment. There are good videos about crypto millionaires who have payed dearly for this grave mistake!

Hi Jerry, what would you reply to the arguments mntioned by the House of crypto' video on ICP (who recommends not going over 10% of portfolio with ICP) arguing that ICP now with 5 billion marketcap earns only 150 usd a day from fees (why so low?), large venture companies invested in its startup, only 100 people working on it and finally you could arguably have better returns if just selling it during bull run and rebuying again in bear market without proncipal being freezed indefinitely? Could you show on a spreadsheet how you did your calculations that staking gives you a better return? All best
I have a question? If you stake indefinately, how does one transfer in your will? How does that transfer work exactly to leave an inheritance. Possibly even split some of it up? I have 4 children
Not an expert but I imagine your family would have to know a password to your device your ICP key was saved on. If phone then you would have to set up the pin rather than fingerprint and or laptop , they would need to know your password. Once they have an access to the wallet they could withdraw the.rewards (maturity) but to to spent the principal they would have to "unfreeze it" (If you use same strategy as in the video), set up dissolvance time and wait 8 years... I believe. Not very safe , especially If you die with your phone and laptop being lost or damaged.
Theoretically you could create 4 separate internet identities and divide amount of your ICPs in four equal parts.

He is referring I would guess to staked rewards which join original principle. You are to pay taxes only on sold ICP rewards. Then it could be considered a kind of dividends if I am correct.
Yeah that strategy is for the lazy not the smart. It’s not necessarily a dumb idea but if you got more than 3000 ICP you can at least use 1000 to try to sell at a strong profitable position (does not have to be the top) and then buy back in at $50 or lower(?) Relying on these rewards which is not guaranteed in terms of rate or percentage is risky. This is like the scary man’s guide to crypto. Jerry took so many losses in the past making bad decisions he’s justifying his strategy solely based on it’s not what I did last time so it must work.

I have around the same amount. My plan is to take my initial investment back with some profit off the top and let the rest sit.
When do we have an IRS event in relation to staking rewards:
1) At the time of receiving staking rewards
2) At the time of spawning

What I learned in the last bull run is to NEVER STAKE YOUR TOKENS. Think about it. You’re staking for 16% a year? That’s peanuts in crypto. Look at all the people who had a 21 day lock up in Luna and couldn’t sell when it exploded. Bad advice IMO.
I agree this guy is giving people horrible advice especially trusting into 1 crypto only. Anything could happen FTX, Luna, developers could pass away and this guy is advising everyone to never sell is horrible advice

This is assuming that there will be no new tax law that makes you pay taxes on rewards and then your taxed on your sell. Taxes are unavoidable if you make money your taxed… I do agree short term gains are crazy high but it’s still only if your profitable… you only pay taxes if you made money.
My guess is that rewards for staking are to be taxed as dividends.
Does staking maturity increase voting power in turn increase your daily rewards?

I’m glad you have the conviction. ICP is awesome but anything can happen in crypto. Look at all the Luna millionaires that turned into 0airs. ICP is great but it’s still early.

Everytime you spawn a neuron do you have to check the automatic stake maturity?
You don’t have to.
You have choices.
Manually stake maturity, automatically stake maturity, participate in community fund, or spawn new neuron (to disburse and sell those yields)
Once you stake your principle. Are you able to add to your position over time ?
Yes
Actually, you can create many neurons in your account with somewhat different parameters. And you can change them with passing of time. Some of them could automatically stake the rewards daily and some of them could just accumulate rewards.

How long does it take before I get my interest paid to me? And does it start as soon as I stake?
It starts within a couple of days after staking. After 4th day for sure! The rewards are accumulated almost every day. It is a slow process.

I find this to be a crazy approach. Jerry will have about 4-500 ICP in a year from staking. say ICP goes to $80, he's looking to make 30k? 40K? and then pay short term cap gains aka 35%. why wait 4 years for a bull run just to profit 25k? Still repect you, Jerry! smart guy, just don't agree
i don't think he's looking for much cash short term. what if icp cruises at ETH price in 5-10 years, which is totally possible if does what it suppose to and gets adapted properly. that 3333.33 is anywhere 5-10mil worth alone. if you add rewards , you might just make 1-2k a day just from sitting on it and collecting interest. just a reasonable possibility. Keep in mind ICP is lightning years ahead in technology compare to ETH, but that doesn't mean anything if ICP doesn't get mass adoption.

Not sure where you live but any staking is taxable income. Everything you gain is taxable, ICP rewards including.
He has not implied that the rewards which are a kind of dividends are not taxable! One sells the rewards one pays taxes for that amount. But one can stake the reward daily without selling them for a long time without paying any taxes until he sold it.

You pay tax from profit when you sell them for more than was its value when they arrive to your wallet but you also pay income tax when you earn them (meaning when they arrive to your wallet) that is based on the coin value at the time of hitting your wallet.

I can wait for meany years before an accumulated reward hits my wallet by my transferring action.
