Some fun facts about Hobie/Spider-Punk! This incarnation of Hobie is fairly recent, but the character of Hobie Brown dates back all the way to 1969, where he was the original Prowler and became one of Spider-Man's allies fairly early on. He's something of a precursor to Miles in a lot of ways. The Hobie we see here is from a dystopian world dominated by cruel mega corporations, and all the superheroes are anarchistic punks fighting the good fight against them; there's a punk Hulk, Hobie's music idol was his world's version of Gwen Stacy, that world's Captain America is called Captain Anarchy... Hobie himself is apparently doomed to die young and he embraces it, declaring himself a 'radioactive suicide machine'. A lot of his mannerisms here are him deliberately baiting Miguel, waiting for his opportunity to reveal the Spider-Society's flaws. Miguel himself is also from a dystopian world and he is specifically a cyberpunk protagonist, with the grim outlook that implies; he has had an extremely rough life filled with betrayal, abandonment and constant misery. In his world, all the superheroes died a long time ago, and he was the first of a new age of heroes. He's actually the most moral and upbeat of them, because his world is so grim. There's little information on what's going on with the Miles we meet at the end of the movie, but apparently he's an anti-hero at worst; his world is apparently run by a criminal cartel that is this world's version of the Sinister Six, so if he seems grim and scary, its because he had to be in order to survive and fight them.
Miguel O'Hara is the Spiderman of the year 2099 and in his time all the Avengers including spiderman are gone. Miguel worked for a corrupt company called Alcamax that forced him to do inhumane experiments. Unlike other Spidermen he wasn't bite by a radioactive spider he actively spliced his human DNA with Spider DNA. As part of an experiment to recreate the original Spiderman. The experiment gave him untraditional spider powers he has fangs that secret paralytic venom and he has claws that he uses to climb walls.
There's so many little bits of perfect setup and storytelling in this movie, but the one I want to focus on right now? The fact that Miles' dad being promoted to Captain is mentioned as the punchline to a blink-and-you-miss-it joke right at the start of the movie, but the writers trust you to be paying enough attention that when it comes up in the third act as a canon event, you think back and go "oh shit, that's RIGHT" instead of going "when was this established?"
On a meta level, Miguel being Miles' antagonist/rival in this movie is so interesting... In the 90's, Marvel launched an initiative called 2099. It was supposed to be the (possible) future of the Marvel Universe, set in the year, you guessed it, 2099. The biggest success of that initiative is Miguel O'Hara, AKA Spider-Man 2099. In the early 2000's Marvel launched another initiative called the Ultimate Universe, and the biggest success of THAT initiative was Miles Morales, AKA Ultimate Spider-Man, AKA Spider-Man II. For the longest time, Miguel was the heir apparent to the mantel of Spider-Man, until Miles was created, and everything changed. That's obviously not why Miguel hates Miles in this movie, but I do think it's fascinating that the filmmakers made the two of them rivals, with that history in mind, y'know?
Thank you for being the only reactor I have seen that acknowledges his age is an issue. He is fifteen. His parents wouldn’t just say yeah go be Spider-Man in this big dangerous city and handle some of the stuff too tough for police (your dad) to do. Maybe in a year or two but fifteen is still a boy. Great reaction. Thanks for the time and effort to do these reactions.
A fun fact that I love telling people: That one spiderman that goes "My bad everybody, there was somewhere to run" was voiced by Music Producer Metro Boomin. He was actually one of the main people that worked on the soundtrack for the movie!

That woman who was unphased. The convenience store where Spot took the gum. We’ve seen her before. And the gum is a clue from where. “Venomint”. She owns that store in San Francisco where Eddie Brock/Venom, aka Lethal Protector frequents. This movie went all over animation and went to a few live action universes with Toby McGuire spiderverse, Andrew Garfield amazing spiderverse, the venomverse, and even MCU with Donald Glover as Prowler locked up in Miguel’s prison thing.
Taki mały detal ;) I remember watching this movie in the cinema that I immediately noticed that Miles was in a wrong world. Rio Morales' eyes are brown in his world, and green in world 42. And the alternative Rio was surprised by his hair, and they had seen eachother a few hours earlier. Such a small detail ;)
Gwen killing her Peter/Lizard is how things happened in the Spider Gwen comics. Her main villain is Mat Murdock, leader of the Hand and also known as the King Pin
I was a bit apprehensive when I first saw the trailer for portraying Miguel O'Hara aka Spider-Man 2099 in an antagonistic way because Miguel is a far cry from a villain and he's also my all-time favourite Spider-Man in the comics but the movie did an amazing job for portraying him not as the villain but more like an opposing force. Also just to clarify, he is not part vampire. That was just a joke they made in the movie becuse he has fangs which can secrete paralyzing venom.
27:20... looking back now on the 90's, yeah this Ben Reilly is a BIT exaggerated, but the man really was an emotional wreck half the time, and a bit of a self exposition machine WAY more than Peter was. But believing you're a clone and then seemingly be confirmed as the original, but turning out to be a clone anyway will absolutely mess a person up. All we needed in this was the imperfect Peter clone called Kaine
About Miguel: Everyone is the hero of their own story. But the way he pursues his mission has turned him into a fascist, 'my way is the only right way' kind of dictator of the Spiderverse. My hope for the finale is that Miles will manage to save Jeff, and Miguel will see that it doesn't harm his Earth or the Spiderverse. Also, lesser hope, that through the events of that movie he'll see what actually causes what he saw happen to his adopted family/dimension. It may involve the ongoing work stabilizing Earth-50101 will uncovering that what happened there was about Spot's power and/or the Alchemax collider crashing down, rather than breaking the so-called Canon.
Yep! Remember, the central idea of Spiderman is "With great power comes great responsibility." Miguel doesn't seem to believe in this. Instead, he thinks, "Don't take responsibility. Everything is fated to happen. If you use your power to help people, you only make things worse." And the idea that the whole universe hangs on one person's life or death is utterly ridiculous. All the uncles, all the police captains, all the girlfriends and boyfriends - they're all mortal, and they're all going to die sooner or later. Why does the universe care if they die a few years earlier or a few years later? How can the laws of physics that hold the universe together possibly be bothered by whether Uncle Ben is shot by a burglar or dies of a natural causes in his sleep? What's so special about this particular person's death? What about all the other tragic deaths that have happened through the thousands of years of human history?

Love how it did the Miles Gwen romance so naturally and didn’t shy away from both of their faults. Need a happily ever after in Beyond for those two. Gwen Stacy needs a good ending for a change. Like Miles said. First time for everything.
Greatest movie of all time. Though if you heard about the rumors about the animators and the production, they had struggle within. A darkside of the production “Pushed to work more than 11 hours a day, seven days a week”
27:00 "oh that Spider-Man looks sick! Bring him back. Bring him back." I was surprised to find out (via Marvel Legends action figures) that that is actually a Spider-Woman. Apparently called "Cyborg Spider-Woman." But yes, she does indeed look awesome and they should bring her back because I definitely want more. From the little Googling I did I think she's original to this movie and essentially the filmmakers' own spin on an existing male comic book counterpart. Kind of like how they did their own spin on Jessica Drew instead of just lifting the typical version that uses venom strikes (like Miles) but doesn't use webs.
Miles is the Chosen One! He's the Neo and Luke Skywalker or should I say Darth Vader of the Spider Verse! Miles and his future wife Gwen. An Hobie his Soul Brother for Life. WHERE UNSTOPPABLE! The best Spider Man movie Ever! Can't wait for part 3!!!!!!! P.S. Hobie stole the show! Peace!
27:00 "Oh that Spider-Man looks sick!" Spider-Woman, actually. AFAIK "Cyborg Spider-Woman" was made for this movie, so there isn't a lot of information about her, but there is some, in design notes and cut scenes. Look up "Miguel Calling across the spider-verse deleted scene". Her name is Petra.
This was originally called across the spiderverse part 1 and was split into 2 movies then they changed the name and most people didn’t notice I think they did it so people wouldn’t wait for part 2 to watch them both I knew going in it was split in 2 so I wasn’t surprised but the people in my theater when I saw it lost their shits the next part is called beyond the spiderverse and comes out next year
The thing that really resonated with me in this film, and the reason I liked Hobie's rebellious character so much is the way the movie makes a meta-narrative of "canon" representing choice versus destiny in terms of story, and the wider implication of audience expectation versus creative freedom. One of my least favorite tropes in storytelling is giving a character incredible powers to either change their fate or change the timeline at large, and then having the narrative invalidate that character's choices because fate and destiny are deemed more important. It's a way to create drama and subvert some expectations, but stories like that also don't tend to communicate much beyond the idea that again, the character's abilities and choices don't matter in the grand scheme. And the other part of that is audience expectation of what makes a Spider-Man story "canon." And this is very topical for the character of Miles Morales specifically, because there was a lot of racial backlash both to the Marvel Ultimates comic where Miles debuted, and also to the possibility of the character being played by Donald Glover. "There can't be a black Spider-Man, and if you make one then it's not *canon* ". And while we're on the topic of canonical things not necessarily being good things, the original Gwen Stacy was written to die in the comics because those writers thought she was boring and that Peter would be more interesting paired with MJ, so Gwen got one of the rawest crappy canons in comic's history. Aside from the clear and harmful tropes in the above, sticking rigidly to established canon can be straight up boring, constantly retreading the same ground with the same characters and familiar character beats, without the opportunity to try new things and make new stories. The Spiderverse films are immensely innovative for more reasons than I could possibly list here, but their commitment to take established stories and characters in new directions is something that puts them leagues ahead of practically every other MCU and superhero property in my mind.
Some little tidbits: The penguin in Gwens room is a reference to her from Spiderhams universe. She's a penguin in it. Ben constantly saying things out loud is cause he's from a era were they had thought bubbles constantly appearing so you can hear their thinking. Gwens comic is actually drawn very similar to how her universe appears. Miguel is actually from the main comics canon universe originally. He's from the year 2099, and the reason he has to inject himself is cause he's more like a spider than Peter was due to a accident forcing him to use the DNA on himself to survive. Also his suit is just a day of the dead costume he found and tweaked.
Yay! I found your channel a while ago when I was watching reactions to Into the Spiderverse, and I loved the Gwen costume and how into it you were! You've become one of my favorite media reaction channels and I'm glad you got to this one
Fun fact: Spider Punk's (Hobie) animation seems chaotic and random, but when he's interacting with someone he cares about, like Gwen, Mayday, or even Hobie, he turns pink!
I saw this in the theater, no one knew it would be a cliffhanger, and the whole theater was moaning and groaning in shock. I, on the other hand, laughed and shouted, “Chaos!” Not because I’m some cool tough person, this isn’t one of those stories. Because first of all… it was pretty funny. But second… the movie just kept getting more and more intense. You start to expect a movie to peak before a certain point but there was no relief in sight and I was actually kinda exhausted. This made me sad because I wanted to enjoy it and here I was wishing it would end already. So finding out it was a cliffhanger was a relief where everyone else was mad. Fun!
This movie was perfect. I saw it in the theater and it was a great experience. Glad, I went in not knowing the movie would end in a cliffhanger and that that ending wasn't spoiled for you.; it makes the experience much better.
Since you’ve seen the first season of Loki, the Spider Society is pretty much a Spidey-themed TVA. A major difference is that they don’t prune dimensions. Rather, they try to save them from collapsing.
Hobie is the MVP!!! That's what I'M talkin' about! He is the G.O.A.T. The G.O.A.T.!! And this is why I worry for Pavitra, the happiest Spider-man. He hasn't suffered any loss. Yet.
So, the only spoiler I got for this was from a tweet saying "I never understood my father when he said how pumped he was for the 3rd, (or 6th) star wars movie as a kid after the cliffhanger of Empire Strikes Back" so all I knew was it ended on a cliffhanger. And as the music was swelling while the team was assembling/spot/miles v miles , I knew it was ending soon. But completely agreed with the tweet. As a kid, got to see Return of the Jedi right after Empire, so never had a huge wait to see how the fuck it ended after luke got his hand lopped off, Han got froze, and the good guys were on their back foot after losing Hoth.
😭that was exactly my reaction when they abruptly ended it! i was like "omgg nooo wayyyy why would you do that!?😭" but alas.. guess we have to wait for the third one now:)
My favorite song on this soundtrack is hummingbird. I listen to it so freaking much. I typically only listen to country and 1970/80s rock like guns and roses and Led Zeppelin but I love the song hummingbird so much
Before Gwen loses her Peter you actually see her, Peter, aunt May, uncle Ben and Captain Stacy sitting round the dinner table. So as well as the spider biting her instead of Peter, none of Peter's 'canon events' occur on Earth-65.
I saw this movie at the theater and everyone myself included were all like “What you can’t ended like that” but is still best movie and excited for Beyond the Spider-Verse.
He is a hero it's just he's willing to make a sacrifice of one person to save all realities mostly because he's seen a whole world die because of his actions and doesn't want any more to die
The whole thing with the spider society rejecting Miles is because there were a lot of people who hated the character and didn't feel like he should have been Spider-Man, and... Into the Spiderverse was a lot bettet than the comic introducing Miles, so there is that. But, while there were valid reasons to not like the character, there is an invalid reason or two that I'm sure factored in. This movie was a direct response to the backlash against Miles, with Miguel playing the gatekeeping fanbase. Also, Hobie is the bomb, he plays the fool but he knew he had to get invited to the clubhouse to help out when crap hit the fan, and he knew it was time to quit the second Miles stood up to Miguel, and that Gwen would get to the same place and need a portal device.

"What happened to that woman?"
Oh cool, got a couple more movies for you to watch.
(Venom and Venom: Let There Be Carnage)
22:56 lol, Gwen yanked Miles back because she sees him flirting with another Spider-Woman. I missed that detail on my first watch 😂
i noticed for a split second for a couple frames you can see the pure terror in Miles eyes as he watches migel run straight towards him.
Everybody in the theater had the same reaction at "To Be continued" lol. everyyyybody!
Viki's hair is flawless ✨ she probably gets tired of hearing that tho 💯
27:44 I don't know what Peter's talking about, babies looove being held like this. It's fun for them.
It was very cool to see Spectacular Spider-Man pop up in this movie, I hope the 90’s animated version gets a cameo in the sequel
I hope the Japanese Spiderman gets a cameo
@@bennywark3103 He must use a gun too.
Hobie is the heart of this movie!! Don't forget that!! He empowers Miles and Gwen doesn't rally everyone without Hobie!! He's the absolute BEST!!!!
Omg!! Love the costume!! And your hair is on point! Love this movie!
Thank you so much!!😊
Damn Hobie got done dirty in this reaction not one bit of appreciation🤦🏿♂️
13:12 the song is called Mona Lisa by Dominic Fike! Literally my favorite song from the movie. The entire soundtrack is amazing tho, metro booming absolutely killed it
That woman who was unphased.
I remember watching this movie in the cinema that I immediately noticed that Miles was in a wrong world. Rio Morales' eyes are brown in his world, and green in world 42. And the alternative Rio was surprised by his hair, and they had seen eachother a few hours earlier. Such a small detail ;)
10:58
That woman was so chill because she’s from the universe of venom, so she’s seen weird stuff and doesn’t care 😂
Gwen killing her Peter/Lizard is how things happened in the Spider Gwen comics. Her main villain is Mat Murdock, leader of the Hand and also known as the King Pin
Scarlet Witch is one of the most powerful characters in Marvel. Also, she drained Captain Marvel's power. Which is how she died so easily.
I know he's a good guy in the comics, but he sure seems like a villain in this movie.
27:20... looking back now on the 90's, yeah this Ben Reilly is a BIT exaggerated, but the man really was an emotional wreck half the time, and a bit of a self exposition machine WAY more than Peter was.
If you use your power to help people, you only make things worse."
And the idea that the whole universe hangs on one person's life or death is utterly ridiculous.
I loved spotting all the different spider people! They were all familiar to me from comics and animation etc. So much fun!
25:46 You could see him use Hobie's advice and use his whole palm.
That movie was so good to watch! And the soundtrack was super dope to hear! I’m glad that you liked it very much ❤❤❤❤❤
You were so cute geeking out about the artwork of the animation the whole time. Loved it. Also you almost falling out of your chair saying your sooo tight after it ended was how i felt the 1st time watching.
The "to be continued" made me wanna give this a standing ovation.
My Favorite Besides The Original Spiderman I Like Peter Porker Spider Ham But Theank You For Doing a Great Job Migel is Acting Like Batman Does Against Superman When Superman Died
26:43 That’s a long list.
1. When running from Alchemax scientists he’s said: “I RUN BETTER THAN I CAN SWING!”
2. Plot armor
3. Main protagonist
4. The others keep getting in each other’s way
5. Miles on overloaded Spider sense.
6. Miles having a plan. (Spoiler alert)
I think this movie is in my top 3. I was absolutely flabbergasted by how amazingly awesome it was
Across The Spider-Verse is one of the best movies I saw this year. That cliffhanger didn't make me mad cause I can wait for the next movie.
Love your reaction, VKunia!!❤️❤️
Love how it did the Miles Gwen romance so naturally and didn’t shy away from both of their faults. Need a happily ever after in Beyond for those two. Gwen Stacy needs a good ending for a change. Like Miles said. First time for everything.
Greatest movie of all time. Though if you heard about the rumors about the animators and the production, they had struggle within. A darkside of the production
“Pushed to work more than 11 hours a day, seven days a week”
27:00 "oh that Spider-Man looks sick! Bring him back. Bring him back."
I was surprised to find out (via Marvel Legends action figures) that that is actually a Spider-Woman. Apparently called "Cyborg Spider-Woman."
But yes, she does indeed look awesome and they should bring her back because I definitely want more.
From the little Googling I did I think she's original to this movie and essentially the filmmakers' own spin on an existing male comic book counterpart. Kind of like how they did their own spin on Jessica Drew instead of just lifting the typical version that uses venom strikes (like Miles) but doesn't use webs.
33:25 it's his ZUNCLE!!! 😅😂
I'm glad they did a reference of Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, Tom Holland & Doctor Strange. We needed that ancient history of them.
And who knows, we might see them in Beyond the Spider-Verse
@@raymondmaciel4047 That would awesome 👌.
Peace!
27:00 "Oh that Spider-Man looks sick!"
Spider-Woman, actually.
Fun!
I've never heard anyone say they hate Hobie. Wow! lol
Miles’ roommate is actually playing the new spider-man game :D it’s a cool little easter egg while also kind of teasing the new game
One of the best comic book movie.
V is JohnWick4 reaction still not edited??
Best movie I've seen this year. Visuals. Feels. Story. 10/10. Loved it!
This movie was perfect. I saw it in the theater and it was a great experience. Glad, I went in not knowing the movie would end in a cliffhanger and that that ending wasn't spoiled for you.; it makes the experience much better.
Fun reaction video. It's particularly good that you didn't know about there being a part 3. Thank you!
Since you’ve seen the first season of Loki, the Spider Society is pretty much a Spidey-themed TVA. A major difference is that they don’t prune dimensions. Rather, they try to save them from collapsing.
I’m so happy you appreciated this movie as much as I did. Such a masterpiece! Can’t wait for Part 3!
The Asian woman (live action) is in the Venom Movies.
I had the biggest smile on my face in the theater when the Miles intro to the movie started and it hit me that so far I had only seen the opening.
😭that was exactly my reaction when they abruptly ended it! i was like "omgg nooo wayyyy why would you do that!?😭"
but alas.. guess we have to wait for the third one now:)
Nice costume 😊
I love it!!!!!!!!!!
Edit: I can't believe you didn't freak out seeing videogame Spiderman in the Spider HQ
Spider-Man was always my favorite super hero as a kid, so it's so cool to see the title getting so much great representation!
My favorite song on this soundtrack is hummingbird. I listen to it so freaking much. I typically only listen to country and 1970/80s rock like guns and roses and Led Zeppelin but I love the song hummingbird so much
Hobi has got to be the coolest marvel hero.
When I first saw it, I didn't expect the to be continued thing at the end. Also awesome suit.

Miles is able to evade the Spider-Men because they are chasing him, so he's the only one really using spider sense
Great reaction and gotta 100% agree, I loved this movie when seeing it for the first time.
One the few sequels that surpasses the original, but they are both masterpieces
Multiply your "NO!!!" by several hundred, and you know what it sounded like in the theater at the end of the movie on opening day.
Miguel should have been portrayed as a hero. He’s a really good guy in the comics
He is a hero it's just he's willing to make a sacrifice of one person to save all realities mostly because he's seen a whole world die because of his actions and doesn't want any more to die
All things considered, @Vkunia, you make an adorable Spider-Gwen.
10:45 They need to make a Lego Marvel Movie.
Mom - We have Spider-Gwen at home
1:48 - Spider-Gwen at home
