Sri Lankan society is highly traumatized, there are many reasons for it. Firstly, our family system, how abuse and fear is so much part of our families, parents physically and emotionally abuse kids, mostly to dominate them or even to discipline them. This is has been going on for generations. So if children across the nation are emotionally and physically abused, what will be their adulthood be like? That's one of the main root causes for our dysfunctional system, rest are all symptoms of it. This physical, mental, emotional abuse then extend to schools, churches/temples, and even to places of employment, where the boss will speak his staff in a very abusive and dominating way. Secondly, our dysfunctional education system, for generation didn't teach our parents or grand parents or great grand parents about parenting skills or relationship building skills, as a result, for generation only power, abuse, and dominance was the way of communication. Then it extend to rich vs poor, how rich people speak to poor people, no respect, no care, its all about power, abuse, and dominance. Parents don't respectfully talk to their children, its power and dominance based. Its a very difficult cycle to break, because even our teachers are abusive, they too grew up in abusive families, so its a vicious cycle, self-feeding violent system, that will never let us free. That's why videos like yours are important, it help create awareness, so some day change is possible. Our political system is macro reflection of what's happening within families. Have you notice how parents are so friendly to outsiders but totally abusive to their children? lets not even talk about abusive religious leaders in SL, who are big part of keeping this violent and dysfunctional stone age culture alive. To change, it may take 100 years, but some of the first steps should be ending violence and abuse inside the family, children should be protected from all forms of physical and emotional abuse, instead of fear, they should learn to respect each other, tha'ts only possible if parents respect their children as equal human beings. Fear is another big thing in SL, fear of parents, fear of teachers, fear of office boss, fear of police, fear of politicians, fear of thugs, fear of 'big people' , you see its all fear fear and fear. That's why we are a dysfunctional traumatized society, so as adults we abusive each other in subtle ways. changing the education system is another thing, so children can learn to be good effective caring adults. a long road, thanks for speaking our dark issues.

absolutely correct. As a srilnakn expatriate for 10 years. I think our bad qualities are suppressed while in SL because you need each other , contacts to get any thing done. But once you are in abroad ,if you have a some kind of steady income, due to the establised social system basic necessities and other requirements can be easily acquried for any body. . So everybody becomes big people ( especially who got sudden change of social status). becomes jealous of any body who achieve things easliy and climb up the ladder. start gossiping .

So true, this type of a thing happened to me in Australia during a job interview- there was a Lankan man on the interview panel- other two panel members were Australians- this guy asked me few silly questions and lastly he asked “you don’t have any experience in hospital setting isn’t it? “ I was working in that hospital already for 2 years- I just went for an interview to secure a second job, that’s all. absolutely correct. As a srilnakn expatriate for 10 years. I think our bad qualities are suppressed while in SL because you need each other , contacts to get any thing done. But once you are in abroad ,if you have a some kind of steady income, due to the establised social system basic necessities and other requirements can be easily acquried for any body. . So everybody becomes big people ( especially who got sudden change of social status). becomes jealous of any body who achieve things easliy and climb up the ladder. start gossiping .
