    I feel like I always make some of my best work when I get to contribute to GameLark albums - the last time I did one was Tropic Trials, which I had so much fun working on and this was a very similar experience! Late in our first semester, Noah Benson showed me the title track of jazz pianist Justin Kauflin's album "Coming Home" and I instantly fell in love - such a simple but groovy and beautiful tune. When we decided the next GameLark album would be a Kingdom Hearts tribute, the thought quickly came to my mind to do Lazy Afternoons in the style of this tune, and it turned out to be a great fit! Reference mixing can really do wonders in production and recording, as we worked to treat the drum kit and get that same dead sound on the record and make it a very tight production. It's always fun getting to play soprano saxophone too, and I look forward to doing it more in the future!
    And of course, props as always to my wonderful collaborators! All the instrumentalists brought their absolute A-game to this tune, and it was such a joy to watch their parts gradually come in. And of course, much love to Beau and Alejandro for taking care of post-production and giving this project a wonderfully professional sound.
    I'm not too sure what I'll be covering next, I'd love to hear your suggestions! Let me know down in the comments below what you'd like to hear more of. Thanks so much for watching!

    I think this def suffered from not being together when played so the sway felt very forced at times. I'm sure you guys feel it while recording. But the writing was superb. The Dynamics could have been a lot better and saved it from the akwardness it has from being separate recordings. Great overall writing through seriously , your lead guitarist and bassist rocked it.
    Edit:
    Also it did have a bit issue sounding constantly FULL the mix could have used serperation from the writing to let a lot of brighter tones out

    • @charlesritzmusic
      @charlesritzmusic  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I definitely feel that at points, in retrospect. If memory serves, I actually believe drums were recorded last on this one, which could have had something to do with it (not to knock my drummer, just by the nature of online collaboration and recording to different things). I definitely appreciate your honesty and your kind words on my writing. I feel like this is an arrangement that would be even better performed by a live group, and I'd LOVE to make that a reality some time soon!

    My honest opinion: this music as a seperate entity/peice of music is great but this doesn't capture the soothing,calm, peaceful, chill nature of the original music (and that's why the name literally has the word "lazy" in it )which was accomplished by using very few instruments (is it 2,or 3 or more idk m not sure) and being much slow paced (which u guys could have accomplished by slowing the flow especially with the mouth instruments)...
