Reminder to never wait seven months after an update video before uploading a new cover again, sorry about that. It was so long a wait that I started growing a beard! But I have been spending these months learning a lot and stockpiling on ideas - Berklee has been so wonderful and it's resulted in collaborations like this one! Super Mario 64's credits theme has always been one of my favorites, and after it didn't get a rendition on "GET N!", I knew I had to do it properly some point down the line.
The arrangement was actually finished around the end of September, but it took me until now to actually finish putting it together - a bit more by the books, but it was a lot of fun writing and learning the sax soli on this, both for alto and tenor! And of course, all my collaborators really made this tune what it is - from the Berklee-infused rhythm section to Beau's fantastic mix+master, and of course my fellow "GET N!" horn players contributing tasteful solos.
This video was originally supposed to go up as a celebration of my channel hitting 1,000 subscribers, which happened shortly after I started at Berklee. I'm so happy that people enjoy what I do enough to consider sticking around, so it truly means the world. Thank you so much for all your support, I'm so excited to show you what I've been working on!

Woooo. You killin' it. Great how you delivered expectations first time around, nice and faithful. And then about 1:50 it really comes into it's own space. From there on it really just grows. The solos were all awesome too, nice to see even more musicians jumping in like that. Really nicely done.
Thanks a ton, Joobie! Yeah, I definitely feel like I could have been more derivative with this arrangement, but the original song is just so pretty that I just wanted to strike a balance that still keeps true to the spirit of the original - and I'm glad to hear you say it worked!

I like the transition from bearded Charles to non-bearded Charles at 0:27. For real though, this is really cool! Simple but effective arrangement. Sweet sax soli too, that was a pleasant surprise. Great work from everybody!
I was considering redoing the keyboard part so that it would match up with the bearded Charles, but I grew to like the old one too much! Super glad you liked my take on this tune, man - I definitely didn't need some super big, bombastic arrangement with this one, just a simple tribute to one of the classics. :)
