One of my boys loves the fleece liners when I've changed them he likes to nap straight on the shelf

Awww! On shelves is ok! Its in the bottom of the cage that it can be an issue.
Usually though i don’t use shelves till the rats are older, since it gives more room to decorate.

@@RatRandomness Don't worry, the bottom of the cage is a big dig box with coco soil big enough to dig tunnels! They love it! I will watch your other videos for inspiration on decorating the cage :)

Did you have a link for the environmental issue you mentioned? I’m super curious! I only use fleece for hammocks , bath mats for the 1 shelf I keep and mixed substrate in my base!

I totally thought I put them in the description.🤦‍♀️ it's updated with them now. One Is a link to a study on the topic, the rest are articles and the first one has tips and tricks to help reduce our micro-particle output into the environment.
      Sorry about forgetting that earlier!

I have a dig box made out of those reptile?? carrier cages that i just removed the opening and put alot of stuff to dig it and I put their food in there and in foraging toys

Actually no. Fleece is polyester and not absorbent at all.
Washing it makes it more wicking. Or more repelling.
I was a cloth diaper mom before a rat mom so had to learn about all different kinds of fabrics and how they work.
It was very handy info to know and made using fleece for my first mischief very much easier.
Dig boxes are great! Almost every rat I’ve seen enjoys them!
