I used to free roam in a whole room too and trained my boys back then to go back for “dinner” But with little dwarves in such a large space i don’t feel comfy doing that now. I just need to put a hook on the bells as i did finish them! Then i can start teaching them to use it 💚

At that point i would think it likely was a tumor or cyst and not an abscess. Abscesses are not solid inside. Because of that it would be best to seek a vet for their help. He may need antibiotics

@RatRandomness it actually fell off of him last night and he's doing alot better now he just has the opening but it's not causing him any pain iam been cleaning it till it closes

Theres several breeders in florida of rats! Rat tails is one that i know of off the top of my head. Often the best way to find them is on facebook

I had them in my cart for awhile but haven’t gotten them yet. I don’t use zip ties much since the rats like to chew them

Oh wow! How did they get out? That would be so scary since we have a cat and dog. The rats are in a room with closed doors here to keep them safe. I dont breed biters or tolerate biting rats in my home. Biters are humanely euthanized. Breeding them can pass that on to their kids genetically and is too high a risk for me with my human kids and dwarf rats.

@@RatRandomness I was setting next to the cage and had the door open giving momma some attention and I turned for a second and poof little dude got out. Little dudes are insane speed demons at a certain stage in their development, they actually become a Problem for their mothers as they will run circles upside down inside the cage and do Penny drops and flips, there's not a free space with out someone running and jumping it it. My cat actually got along with my rats, he would even come to open door of the cage and the rats would "explore" the cat grabbing him and smelling him. Imagine taking a adult and sticking them in one of them inflatable bouncy forts with 12 children all hyped up on Mt dew. It was a rather small cage as well made for 2 adults not a bunch of babies. They didn't stay in there long as I would sell my babies to the pet store who was always happy to buy them due to the fact all my babies were healthy and when they bought from their normal suppliers they would always get sick ones.

As long as its 100% cotton and not made with wool from animals you are safe to do that. You will want to make sure to inspect the items you make daily for chewed spots and remove if they are chewed on. You will also want there to be no gaps big enough for paws to get caught or tangled in

I haven’t had much issue finding the scarf hangers serving hand but they are usually pricey unless in luck out at goodwill. I don’t usually use thread of any kind as it can be a hazard or make them too easy to chew down. I prefer the bird skewers that are metal and made for fruit to put even paper toys on, or pipe cleaners. As both are reusable and provide a bit of a challenge to the rats. What do you use the thread for?

There's definitely rope thick enough for mice at dollar tree. You could also buy two and twist them together to make them thicker. I bet they will love it!

Outdoor items are definitely naturalistic! The whole idea is to mimic the colors or vibe of the natural environment. Watering cans and plant pots would definitely be found in the garden for example. There's several ways to do a naturalistic setup and little things like this can be a fun touch for that, that rats enjoy

Ive literally never seen a rat get thier feet trapped in the crocheted item in the nearly 7 years i’ve been a rat owner and active in the community nearly everywhere. If they can use nets and things that are similar i feel the thickness and type of yarn or fiber is the most important part. Tshirt yarns, chenille yarns, and other yarns that are made of natural fibers that are short staple lengths are so key for the rats safety. Lots of things to consider for our babies ❤️

Believe it or not theres quite a range of sizes used in all parts of the world. And this is much larger than is the bare minimum even in Germany. Pet welfare places often do our animals a huge disservice as thier goals sound good but really do not take i to account what is best for the animal as a whole. But rather what our human ideals think is best instead. My cages are close to triple the minimum standards for labs in Germany, and similar for US, Aus, and UK. Pet groups push bigger being better but thats just not always true unfortunately. Theres nothing wrong with giving even more space if someone wishes. But theres nothing at all abusive or harmful in my choice either. The rats dig, burrow, run, climb, sleep, forage, chew and explore just like in any other cage. ❤️
