I've heard this my whole life, my Mom was into Scotland from 1971 when that hymn, Amazing Grace was played on bagpipes & went almost to #1 on the pop charts. Top 40 is now an antiquarian phrase. I myself was there in the '80s, Highland games at Monterey & Santa Rosa California . I punted learning to pipe, but have tossed a caber or two. The Scottish ruling house, the Stuarts ruled England starting in the 1600s and they were sore at being usurped by parliament. There was a whole Reformation angle to it, as the Stuarts were Roman Catholic.
a common misconception, the Jacobites fought for control of all of the British isles, not for the independence of scotland like some people seem to think in this comment section
Anti-farm sentiment is extreme in scotland. Strange choice of translation wording though, a lot of the original lyrics can be translated directly to English.
Princess Diana was descended from the Jacobites through one of her grandparents (I don't remember which one), but once Prince William becomes King, we will have a monarch descended from both James VII and the Wee Bit German Lairdie. Perhaps then the Jacobites will know some peace, because William will be both part of the Jacobite succession and the current British succession.

@ayelads Normans weren't a thing by the time of the Jacobite rising and also there weren't enough Normans in England let alone Scotland that they would form an army, they were relegated to the Aristocracy and by the time of the Jacobite rising they've intermarried with the English and Scottish that they've basically integrated to those countries.
A duke insofar that he chose not to use the title of king as a personal preference. Technically speaking, Bavaria is a kingdom, and has been for all of modern history. When William or one of his lads sit upon the Throne we will finally have a proper British-born descendent of Robert, the James' and Charles back on the Throne, through illigitement Diana's ancestry.
This song isn't about Scottish independence, it's actually a unionist song, it's about the Scottish struggle to restore the House of Stuart to the English, Irish and Scottish thrones.
@@crusader3442 unionism is a specific thing in British history. It was the merger of the kingdoms of England and Scotland as a single kingdom not a simple personal union. The Auld alliance is not only new, compared to the Anglo-Portuguese alliance, it's also null due to Scotland's whole "lack of diplomatic independence" thing they've got going on.

Remember January 21 - Death of Louis XVI... 📜🥀
I didn't know Louis XVI was so well known abroad, as much as to know the date of his sad death.
He was an innocent king, and his death was the beginning of the long descent into hell that we know today in France. The republic is nothing but an evil to exterminate.

The most ironic thing is that now the Protestant Royal Family is pretty thoroughly British, whereas the Catholic Jacobite Pretender is a German
Queen Elizabeth the Second is the rightful monarch ever since the Stuarts forfeited the throne in their cowardice.
I found some lyrics that (perhaps) could be more fitting with what the singer is actually singing. I bring them here not to cause division, but to help those who feel that the lyrics presented don't quite match the sound:
Noo, wha the de'il hae we gotten for a king
But a wee bit German lairdie
When we cam to bring him hame
He was delvin' in his yairdie
Sheughin' kail an' layin' leeks
But the hose an' but the breeks
An' up his beggar duds he cleeks
This wee bit German lairdie
An' he's clappit doun in our gudeman's chair
This wee bit German lairdie
He's brocht forth o' foreign trash
An' dibbled them in our yairdie
He's pruned the rose o' English cloons
An' broken the harp o' Irish loons
But thistle taps'll jag his thumbs
This wee bit German lairdie
Come up amang our Hieland Hills
Thou wee bit German lairdie
See the Stewarts' lang kail thrive
They hae dibbled in our yairdie
But if a stock ye daur to pu'
Or haud the yokin' o' a plough
We'll brak your sceptre ower your mou'
Thou feckless German lairdie
Oor hills are steep, oor glens are deep
Nae fittin' for a yairdie
The Nor'land thistles willna pu'
Thou feckless German lairdie
But we've the trenching blades o' weir
We'll prune ye o' yer German gear
We'll pass ye 'neath the claymore's shear
Thou feckless German lairdie
Oh Scotland, thou art ca'ed a hole
For nursin' siccan vermin
The very dugs o' England's court
They bark and howl in German
So keep thy dibble in thine hand
Thy spade but an' thy yairdie
For wha the de'il noo rules oor land

Princess Diana was descended from the Jacobites through one of her grandparents (I don't remember which one), but once Prince William becomes King, we will have a monarch descended from both James VII and the Wee Bit German Lairdie. Find it funny that the current Jacobite claimant is a German
They say - in a dialect closer to Anglo-Saxon than the English spoken by the actual English.
That's true, but I believe the majority of the Scottish Jacobites were Gaelic-speaking highlanders.
@@warswapperproductions72 not exactly most jacobites were lowland scots. The reason why highland scots were so visible is because the british blamed them as they were a minority
@@taggymcshaggy6383 Really? I was always under the impression that Jacobite support was strongest in the highlands. A while back I read one statistic that said half of the Jacobite soldiers at Culloden were highlanders; unfortunately, I don't have a source.
@@taggymcshaggy6383 That is blatantly false, Lowland Scots were the ones who gave the most enthusiastic support for the crown, the majority of the army against the Jacobites were Lowland Scots. And they were also the most enthusiastic supporters for the oppression of the Highlanders, supporting the banning of Gaelic etc.

Should he want to become known as “king”, he’d categorically be within his right to do so.
