If it's happy in the water, that's science telling you it doesn't have rabies. Animals with rabies have a fierce aversion to even accidentally drinking water, it wouldn't put its mouth anywhere near water for fear of swallowing any!
One commenter suggested the raccoon was hand-raised or frequently fed. Maybe. However, lack of normal fear of humans is typically a sign of rabies, which raccoons are known for, or other health problems. Good thing you called the (need a better word) "professional".
Once it didn't go for food, we knew something was up. I (Mark) have small kids, and the last thing I need is for them to go pet the "cuddly" raccoon...
Kind of depressing that they got the government involved. When I was a kid, critters like that were either adopted or shot - sometimes both, in succession.
That was a harmless water spider. Please do not attack them unprovoked. Spiders are highly misunderstood and villianized when actually they are mans best friend.
