Except that it's done in way lacking even a hint of the real world nuances that make the topic actually complicated with no easy fixes. The healthcare shown in the movie is entirely automated, seemingly instantaneous, and so efficient that it's able to somehow detect over a million people in need of urgent care from orbit and automatically coordinate planet-wide medivacs. We are never given any reason why Elysium rations this wondrous service other than the implication that it's done purely out of arrogance and/or malice.
In reality, there is no magic tube that can instantly diagnose and treat ailments. We must use doctors, nurses, technicians, researchers, expensive diagnostic machines, laboratories, and carefully selected medications to treat patients. Every single one of these is a finite resource which must be consequently rationed through some means; either by markets, insurance companies, or government bureaucracies. Absolutely no country on Earth has the resources to treat everyone, equally, and perfectly.

That movie always left me perplexed by the end. Resources are finite and since they managed to spread the resources for the millions of people left on a rotting Earth, wouldn't the resources be consumed much faster thus hastening the doom of those aboard the Elysium. With the incredibly high population and low life expectance of people, you have easily exchangeable and cheap workers. This in our real world would cause low quality work and products, but in this high tec world, all a worker needs to do can be learned in a few days. A worker gets 1 maschine, that creates 1 product, and all the worker needs to do is: Open maschine, put material in, close maschine, push start button, wait, open maschine, take out finished product, repeat. That can be done by everyone, so you can pay them low and if they want more, they are replaced. You take a few people, that have higher knowledge, probably directly hired from Elysium, that have more knowledge, arent easily replaced and get much money, so they do whatever Elysium tells them to do.
If you give them free healtcare, they can either: Live long enough to make themself hard to replace, or get healthy and wealthy enough to form their own company. This creates harder to control populations, at least in the scenario of this movie.
In our current world, i think Robert Bosch, Founder of the company Bosch summons it up very well with the words: "I dont pay high wages because i have money, i have money because i pay high wages." saying that high wages creates long lasting workers, creating experienced workers, creating better product.

that's one of benefit, the problem come after that. with the same system you can monopolize many products under your name and thus giving you more money and enough power economically against your competitor by trying making connection with authority with all you have and making some 'adjustment' to help you creating major gap between you and your competitor. having all of that the only thing you need is to maintain the gap, no need to care about product, worker, law, or anything since everyone will buy any sh*t product you produce no matter how terrible it is and by the law everything you did were 100% technically legal and even if it were illegal who's able to judge you? by the time you achieve this you already have your own market where most the product sold come from your own companies thus making you irreplaceable to the system even if someone want to take you down and the people in authority already comfortable with the money and power you gave them. it's not the system that inherently wrong, it's how the system ran without clear limitation on how much a company should grow without having too much power just like how government have too much power in communism. i wonder how this problem will be dealt in near or far future.

Stup!d ending. What good is a dozen ambulances against the world? All they did is quickly run out of the very limited medical tech and everyone loses.

Shows what the USA will become with open borders, then shows a society with closed borders. Proceeds to make the later society just like the former.

@@noelb684 I get your question but to answer your question I would start with people on welfare, in Illinois they have been living on welfare for 4 generations, yet they are the ones that you see destroying property in a riot. after the welfare people I would eliminating liberals, if you notice the positions they take are unreasonable but yet very dangerous, for example attacking the oil industry, this produced major inflation and was a huge help for Russia to invade Ukraine, all by liberal democrats, so to answer your question sure I have targets
