    These are stronger than my Shimano MT200. I’m a 260lbs rider and could never get the brakes to lock up until I switched over to these. I’d recommend them to the budget folks.

      I have MT200s on my hard tail and I'm able to lock up both the front and back. I'm also 300lbs. You needed to fix your brakes, not buy cheap chinese brakes.

      Your brakes come from China.@@Gojira_Wins

      of course they are stronger. if you went to physics classes with fellow maricans maybe you wouldn't find a need to write that obviousities

    I for one like the looks of Shimano vs. Sram and the fact Shimano uses Mineral Oil. I have heard of several occasions of brakes leaking after a crash and the DOT fluid Sram uses, caused the paint/finish to come off the frame. I actually had my rear Shimano MT501 leak at the lever where the hose connects, spraying my head tube with no damage to the paint

      Can definitely agree with you there, I like the smaller form factor of the Shimano way more than the bulky Sram design.

      Dot fluid is crap, it doesn't hold up, it will go bad after some time.

    Thanks for the great content. I like that you review products the way your average rider would and take a more "common man" perspective. I noticed you have the Bluto on the Muklik. Did you decide that the Bluto is a better long term option then the Wren you had a while back? I am going to pull the trigger on a fork soon and just wonder what your thoughts were now that some time has passed. Thanks!!

      I have the Wren on my Mayor so it was easiest to just put the Bluto on. If I have more issues with the Wren (I’m on the second damper) then I’ll probably sell both and get a Mastodon Pro.

    I'm a Shimano fan so far. Just upgraded to SLX 4 pistons on my Polygon T8. Did not get along well with the 4p Tektros it comes with.. I have been very impressed with the Shimano mt401 on my Timberjack. My mt200s have been solid but are definitely a step below the others mentioned. No experience with sram yet. None of the bikes I've had have come stock.

    For a commuter bike maybe, but never for mtb. The more miles you put on a bike the more you should consider investing in better brakes. Think price per year and serviceability.
    Personally I used to ride 365 days a year with a commuter bike and I invested in a set of Shimano M6100(Deore). When you ride a lot you will cherish a few upgrades - that I can vouch for, and I did ride 365 days a year for 7 years straight in all four seasons.

    Did you ever shorten the hose? If so, any idea what barb/olives it's compatible with?

  • @mikethomas6051

    One thing i'll tell you about zoom and Shimano, zoom have very off bled kit requirements, shimano straight forward, the pot4 zoom ok if thats what you want but you can get pot2 shimanos that give the same brake power for less, i have tried those zooms and they are not pot4 level power, way off, for bleeds stick with shimanos

      I got them to replace mechanical disc brakes and the difference is astonishing. More than enough power for the trails I ride. Going to whack some bigger rotors on so they'll have even more power but I'd definitely recommend them as an upgrade from mechanical

    Great vid! What’s your opinion on the bleeding/installation process vs other name brand competitors? Just curious what it’s like to work with these brakes, relative to Shimano/SRAM.
    I am asking because I used Magura MT5s on a build, and found them to be horrendously frustrating to work with. The performance was decent, maybe even pretty good (when the rotor wasn’t rubbing), but the proprietary fasteners, the mounting hardware, etc was just awful IMO. I was really blown away by how poorly engineered it was, and ended up going with SRAM instead.

    • @RideYearRound
      @RideYearRound  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      These came pre-bled and even after disconnecting and shortening the rear hose, there wasn't even a need for a top bleed. I haven't noticed anything proprietary on them either, so they've been simple to work with so far.

    I just bought some of these and was wondering what barb and olive you used to reattach the hoses after cutting?

    • @RideYearRound
      @RideYearRound  ปีที่แล้ว

      Shimano style work, I’m pretty sure I just reused these to be honest haha.

    Is the brake fade you experienced due to the caliper, rotors, or pads? What do you think?

    • @OddBallPerformance
      @OddBallPerformance 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Likely the pads. Most of these cheap brakes come with cheap organic pads that wear fast and fade

    Would you happen to know what size lever olive/barb is used with these brakes? Shimano BH59 or BH90 or something else?

    These brakes suck!!!!! I've seen these brakes brand new and on many customers bikes new and slightly used. THESE BRAKES ARE GARBAGE!!!! They all constantly leak from every where and rub constantly. These brakes are a waste of time and money
