The Big Picture : Biodiversity conservation during a global crisis

22nd of May is observed as the International Day for Biological Diversity - a day marked in the global calendar to raise and create awareness about biodiversity and its issues. What is biodiversity? It encompasses the variety of life on Earth at all its levels, from genes to ecosystems, and evolutionary, ecological, and cultural processes that sustain life. In short, it is the foundation of ecosystem services of which human beings are a small part, along with the variety of animals, plants, and microorganisms. For almost every aspect of our lives, we depend on biodiversity. However, despite it being critical to our survival, this ecosystem has come under severe stress over the last few decades - largely due to human activity. According to WWF’s Living Planet Report, Biodiversity is being lost at an alarming rate. The report released last year states that the numbers of mammals, birds, fish, plants and insects have declined by an average of 68% between 1970 and 2016. The State of the World’s Plants and Fungi in 2020 assessment says, Two-fifths of the world’s plants are at risk of extinction. To convey to people the urgent need to protect nature, restore ecosystems and establish a balance in our relationship with the planet, the theme of Biodiversity Day this year is - We’re part of the solution. How can we be part of the solution? What role can we play in the management and restoration of ecosystem services? What are the challenges and what is the need of the hour?. These are some aspects we will discuss on this edition of The Big Picture.

1. There is link between Biodiversity and Pandemic.
2. Earlier Hunter, Gatherers too had direct contact with wildlife, But they had such immune system.
3. Today Direct exposure to Wild can cause different diseases.
4. Today Biodiversity(Now onwards BD) is decreasing.
5. I believe that people who believe in BD: They must have incentives to protect BD.
6. Give rights to local communities: To develop BD.
7. We dont have Any recognition of IPRs(Intellectual Property Rights) for Tradition knowledge.
8. This lacunae exits in Legal framework
9. Solutions based approach are also not giving better results.
10. We have to mainstream Practices In our developmental Activities.
11. Rigorous EIA(Envi Impact Assessment) has to be made.
12.India is densely populated country, Also It has Protected Area comparable to area of Tamil Nadu.
13. Such huge area needs Biodiversity Management Plans.
14. Till now BD was used as a product of Nature, And used Unsustainably.
15. We have to be imaginative towards development of Economy.
16. Eg: ONGC Unchecked has caused havoc towards Olive Ridley Turtles in Odisha.
17. After Imaginative Approach helped to tackle the issue.
18. You cannot Stop development Models but it has to be made responsible.
19. At Individual Level: We can stop dumping plastics. Use resources thoughtfully.

1. Pandemic is devastating.
2. One species(virus) has kept us down: This is because of distorted relation with Biodiversity.
3. As human we thought we are superior.
4. We neglected BD and just focused on Development.
5. Most food system, Agro Biodiversity depend on BD: If this balance disturbs, Such Pandemic emerges.
6. We need to be part of the solution , that must be road map.
7. Solutions are been there: In 2010 We had AICHI BIODIVERSITY TARGETS.
8. Such Programs results were not up to the mark.
9. Still Significant progress has been done.
10. Important BD Areas: Not been fully protected so far.
11. Connectivity between Protected areas is necessary : for Species expansion.
12. There is COP for Biodiversity Convention in China in October this year.
13. Whatever targets we set: Tell how to achieve it.
14. India Since long CO existed with Nature.
15. For This Peoples Participation is necessary.
16. With the development Process, There is huge pressure on Biodiversity.
17. In future: We have to predict how much Does development Projects are effecting resources, Species, BD.
18. Also there is need : How Business will be sustainable approach towards Environment, BD.
19. Rivers, Natural Ecosystems need to be clean and Sustainable.
20. IF ecosystem Services are sustainable: We lives will be sustainable on its own.
21. Integrated Approach is required.
22. Species are disappearing fast: We have entered " THE AGE OF EXTINCTION"
23. Red Listing of Species: Identify them, Wherever there is threat, Conservation Measures should be taken.
24. If We wont prevent: Such Zoonotic Diseases will emerge.
25. We can only be part of solution only when we change our life style and solve the concers against BD.
" WE CAN BE MORE FRIENDLY TOWARDS NATURE BY CONSUMING DIVERSE FOOD AND FRUITS, AND REUSING AND RECYCLING PRODUCTS"

biodiversity conservation in any how we have to insure to avoid another wave of pandemic in future, while we are facing pandemic and loss of biodiversity which indicates us that if we do any interfere in the process of biodiversity it will lead to another kind of pandemic. Nature and Human should need to have such kind of relationship which don't hampers anyone and benefit both. Currently pandemic shows us we are interfere in the biodiversity which results we are facing. After industrial revolution we have ramp up the process and day by day we are moving toward the extinction of the biodiversity. Nature has both thing good and bad, now human's need to adopt one of them. To avoid any complications we need to develop certain type of technology which has zero or minimal amount of effect on the ecology, such as use of green energy, alternative of plastic, effective environment imapct assessment, stringent law, awareness among population , team work. now we have to find such as method which synergy with the nature to achieve sustainability in the nature.

Human is main reason to losses our biodiversity so our save biodiversity so human huge amount of law are required that like industrial revolution and modernization agriculture and proper drainage system in our city. Biodiversity and human are good relationship each other their depend live .so you know animal and lot of crops are required for life so that Effect savely our biodiversity. Our society is required for lot of procedure that Effect on biodiversity safety and cultural program are required for human how to require environment safety and strictly required environment protection act .
