    I removed my deadbolt to paint and could not for the life of me put it back. After watching your video I was finally able to figure it out (at 12:30 AM) so now I have my door locked and can go to bed. I have the third kind - the bad one. Thank you!

    Thanks so much for the excellent analysis of different models. I just had to replace broken locks with others from the shed (old ones) and I learned all I needed from this video.

    Thank you for the information, you made a difference! I had removed my lock and was unaware of the different hardware iteration. I was totally confused as to how to reassemble. At 10:30 PM after my door paint had sufficiently dried I was not open to an unsolvable challenge. Thanks for your help!

    THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO! I took out one of these models and spent at least 3 hours trying to re-install it! The stupid pins won't line up. Thank you for validating my experience. Just want to throw the dang thing in my yard!

    Have had the 360 on my front door for 20 years now. I’m thinking it was a great lock for lasting that long. I think it’s time to upgrade lol

    Jason, thanks for the informative, educational, and entertaining videos. I just checked out the deadbolts I installed on my home almost 30 years ago. They are a bit different from those you are demonstrating in this video. I found the original instructions and they are 660 Series. They have tiny screws that attach the thumb latch plate to a heavy inner plate. Just don't drop them if your vision is less than perfect. Any knowledge regarding the history of this product is appreciated. I am considering replacing the matching entry knob set because it doesn't unlock when the knob is turned. Also, if you turn the lock button to the unlocked vertical position and you accidentally bump it to where it is depressed, you will find yourself being locked out.

    Great video! Just curious, would you happen to have the older Schlage superbolt deadbolt locks? If you do, could you please do a video on it? Thanks!!

    Thanks for posting. How is the referenced Schlage deadbolt the best on the market if it can be opened with incorrect key?

    • @selock
      @selock  ปีที่แล้ว

      There were several deadbolts in this video and none of them open with the incorrect key. I am unsure of what you are talking about here

    Oh ya, the model number for the B160 with a heavier bolt is the B400 series. :)

    Hi. I have a dual tailpiece deadbolt on my very customer door with 3-3/4 backset. That backset is nearly impossible to find nowadays so I figured I would just replace the two deadbolt halves with something newer and more modern. What series can I use that will work with the old sliding mechanism slot? I know some use a square slot nowadays.

    • @yanniator
      @yanniator 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I should clarify, I will leave the door innards, and simply replace the two halves that interact with the innards.

    Where can I buy those security pins that fit on the head of the screw... and what is the technical name for them. Thanks.

    • @selock
      @selock  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are called “why the hell did this person put these stupid pins in the screws” and we have hundreds we’ve tossed in a vial from over the decades of installing deadbolts and they won’t ever be sold.
      Good luck!

    Someone mentioned that you cannot add a b560/b60 bolt to a 360. You can but, you have to disassemble the thumb turn peice and file the little positioning/ timing stop thats molded into the thumb peice.

    I picked open a Schlage B360 for practice. It was a bit more difficult and took longer than anticipated. So upon taking it apart, I was surprised to find Pins 1-4 were security (spool) pins. Not sure if this is normal with Schlage deadbolts or not.

    • @lockmanmd8738
      @lockmanmd8738 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends. The older B160, B560, and B660 deadbolts didn't come with spool pins as stock standard locks. The B60, however, does come with spool pins as standard.

    just got a B160, and i noticed that the adjustable backset is sprung. and also it is not adjustable with the bolt extended.
    but overall, the 160 is better than the 360, despite its own shortcomings. glad i got a 160 than a 360.

    Edited 25.Jun.2021:
    So far, the adjustable backset has not failed and the thumbturn slot has not broken...

    I have a B360 deadlock, but I also have a B60-type bolt from another lock. I have tried to use the B60 bolt with the other B360 parts, but I can't get them to work together. Are they incompatible, or am I doing something wrong?

    • @selock
      @selock  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Alan Beagley no, those are incompatible to my knowledge. the 360’s were quite horrid

    • @LongboatLtd2004
      @LongboatLtd2004 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 360s, @H H, use a "crank" to extend and retract the bolt that is slid onto the tail. And the connecting screws (that hold the interior and exterior together) do not provide any support to the bolt.

    My neighbor had a key from the ex owner of my house, before I moved in. Of course the lieing bastards that sold the house to me said there were ONLY the three keys they gave me to the whole house. After catching the old skank IN my house at 3 AM the other day, I had her arrested! Then on the recommendation of my hardware owner, I then bought three of these double keyed locks. A pain in the ass to install, because I DID have to drill out the holes for larger bolts, etc.
    After all of that, to THEN find out they are junk is not making me to damn happy!!
    It IS a level 1 lock, so I assumed it wasn't total junk as you describe it on here..guess I was wrong about that too.
    Well..as every damn door in my whole house is made from glass or glass panels, I figured double keyed locks was about as secure as I am going to get. I DO have a cop that lives next door to me...that did a lot of good when I reported that someone was coming into my house at night..that THEY must be looking to be SHOT!! No other reason to enter another person's home at 3am, other than a death wish!!
    Anyway, my new locks DID come with the 3" screws, as well as the BIG striker plates. The smaller ones were also there, but I didn't use them of course.
    Next week I am going to get me a REAL LOCK! A full grown and trained Doberman!! Let's see them PICK or BREAK that!! The ONLY truly safe lock worth a damn anyway!! I had two over the last 20 years..no one even wanted to set foot on my property..much less INTO my house!!
    Thanks for the info..made my decision a LOT easier to make!

    B660/2 is significantly better in all ways except for the non adjustable latch. Latch is way stronger but it sucks to have to pay over 20 bucks for a 2 3/8 latch.

    Schlage is "Schit" I have been back to Menards six times with stripped screws! Nothing lines up. And I have two doors finally completed and the last one is now giving me the same problems.

    Cutting the key one depth deeper doesn't really prove anything.
    When you pull the key back a little , the pins will ride on the slope and reach the shear line. The same thing will work on a high quality cylinder too , providing the tip of the key doesn't have to push into something.
    In order to prove the sloppiness , you would need to cut certain depths deeper and other shallower and insert the key all the way in. In this case that would be 74487. If that would work , than they are indeed very sloppy.

    • @lockmanmd8738
      @lockmanmd8738 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I tried doing this to another Schlage B60 deadbolt lock with the original bitting of 45867 and then cut a key with depths 35967. The 35967 key was a little stiff, but worked well nevertheless which proves that the tolerances on it are indeed quite poor.

      i have a Kwikset 980 single cylinder deadbolt (only to play with) and i have an example.
      If i keyed it up to the bitting 62414, i could Still turn the cylinder with the key it came with (bitting 56241), with the tip of the key raising the 5th slider to a 4 cut
