The James Brown hot tub sketch was definitely among the very best sketches of all time on SNL. Loved the story of James telling Eddie to bury his money, definitely could see him saying that.
Being duped for so many decades in show business, Mr James Brown and most other artists of his generation (Lee Dorsay, Ruthie Brown, Chuck Berry, etc) had plenty of reasons to be suspicious, to say the least!
@@mkilptrick I love how somebody he worked with at SNL, can't remember who it was, offered him some drugs of some kind. He had just started on SNL and doing movies and he didn't want to mess that up. Said he loved his friends that had OD'd and died because of the drugs they took....he had no desire to join them. And he didn't.
Buckwheat getting shot and Gumby as an old Jewish man-absolute comedic genius. And then Mr. Rogers in da hood..... What an era. So grateful to have been a highschooler back then. And then while in college, i went to a NYC club called Mars-still one of the greatest nightclubs in Gotham history-and i'm upstairs and see Dolph Lundgren. As i turn around to tell my friend, i'm face-to-face with Eddie Murphy. Big moment for me at like 19 or 20.

He’s an anomaly. You don’t look that much older than the entire cast on the show and they are all people who’ve watched him when they were little kids.
I was an NBC Page on the set of studio 8H when the James Brown Hot Tub Sketch was pre-taped. Eddie was just on his way to movie stardom and was so great to just be around.
Where is the Eddie Murphy statue? I don’t think we give this man the much praise and flowers that he needs and he deserves for all the laughs all the laughs that he’s given us all the years he’s given us back all the movies that we watch over and over again and never get tired of and them to add to this anomaly, he looks the same. The man doesn’t age. He also does things for the community without the cameras that nobody ever sees. I’ve heard a few stories from just random people about how he did amazing things for them just little things to make them feel important…no cameras, no accolades he’s beautiful.

I would have bought it about 2 hours later since I put it together as a set. It was in a closet, not out on the shelf. The store was called WILD BILLS! I still have the bag it came in till today!
I'd LOVE to meet Eddie!! I've been a huge fan of him my whole life. He's also the EXACT same age as my mom. They were born on the same day same YEAR! I LOVE that the medley had some awesome cuts from Coming To America in it!

"He told me to bury my money in the woods" Fam I'm howling at how unprepared I was for that, can't even imagine Eddie's internal reaction to hearing such a sentence lmao
I remember that being one of the BEST SNL ep's EVER! I once did Eddie doing James Brown in my Trig class Junior year, High School. Boy, did I score some MAJOR cool points that day!
Just watching one your movies now on Dstv, "Coming to America" wow, very many years ago and you still this young, it feels good to see you in great condition sir, I love you Eddy Murphy
Unless you were around during Eddie Murphy's stand up career you'll never know just how truly AMAZING and BIG he was. His stand up specials were MUST SEE. I venture to say that not even Chappelle (my all time favorite) had to buzz and excitement of Eddie.
mr. fallon, i have a super audience engaging skit/challenge/talent/heart warming segment for your show. my son dexter , 17 years of age, mildly autistic is an amazingly phenomenal drummer and gifted musician. he's never had any real drum lessons... he has been playing expert on guitar hero since the age of four. last year he went to a local music store to play drums for one hour a week (the teacher said i dont know what i can teach him...he shows me things...he played on his first real drum set at the age of 10 and the teacher whom is a professional drummer, has been in the industry for over 20 years, started crying and got goose bumps after she heard him play...he had like 4 lessons with her and then we had to stop lessons due to family matters.) he did not play on drums again until last year and his innate ability still shines brightly. i call him blue note. at any rate i think a segment of the tonight show where talib plays a drum solo, and then my son immulates it...would be awesome and awe inspiring. we live in san diego california. i looking for a means to develop his musical ability and put him in touch and /or expose his talents so that he may have some guidance, direction, socialization which will enhance his life for life. he's a wonderful kid. as the parent of an autistic kid i dont always know the things that will bring him joy and capture his interest, but i do know that music is in his heart. also, he was playing the drum set i just bought him this past july... he was playing a led zeplin song and then half way through, he got up and sat at the portable piano we have and continued playing the song there. he amazes not only me, but every one who hears him play. i think the drum challenge will be fun, inspiring and life changing for my son, extremely engaging for your audience and prideful for you and talib as you both grant him some memorable moments in life.
Quest killed that intro medley 🔥
I was floored I had to scroll this far to find the first mention of this! Thank you. That shit was some deep cuts. Watched it so many times
He definitely doesn't get enough credit for his scholarship.

Raw and Delirious are still two of the best standup specials ever. Goddamn legend
College needs to have a comedy course and use those 2 as study guides lol
I wish there was a button for 100 "likes", those stand up specials were defining of comedy in the period.
Keenan Ivory Wayans wrote most of the material
My Dad & brother let me watch those & Richard Pryor at like 7 yrs old & my sense of humor was developed by Murphy & Pryor bc of it❤❤❤

Surprising good in the drama,
Mr. Church. Highly recommend watching.
Eddie Murphy is so talented ❤
This man turned a joke into a series with hope, despair, loss and hype. He deserves every bit of recognition he has and even beyond that
What series? I didn’t watch the whole interview
