    Dan, I can personally attest that you have a ton of followers in the Seattle area. My local deconstruction group (which meets about 40 minutes south of Seattle) would definitely be interested in a book tour stop!
    Thanks again for hosting Dan, Dr. Bird!

    I'm deconstructing from the Baptist faith, after growing up in it for over 45 years. I so appreciate and enjoy storytime! My husband, on the other hand, doesn't trust the scholarship. In his words, "it was the scholars in Jesus' lifetime that wanted to kill him." He is discouraging my deconstruction b /c he's worried that my name won't be written in the Lamb's Book of Life. And we all know what is suppose to happen to those whose names aren't in "the" book. There is so much work to do!

      @@eshesherall303 Ah, yes. And it is extra challenging that it is your spouse who is concerned at that level.
      You could offer this nugget for his consideration: the scholars who are depicted wanting to kill Jesus were men associated with the Temple who were also getting rich out of exploiting the poor. The things that Jesus said and did called out their hypocrisy and exploitation. I happen to stand with Jesus in that issue, taking offense at people misusing their positions of power and lining their pockets by exploiting the masses/lots of people’s labor.

      Joke's on your husband, because Jesus (most likely) didn't exist, and the people who invented hm were themselves Pharisees; as were the people they disagreed with the most fiercely. Good news for you, there is no Lamb's Book; when you die, you're done; no tedious eternity to fret over, thank goodness.

      The book of life is the summer signs of Aries thru Libra.
      The book of death is the winter constellations of Scorpio thru Pisces. The five winter signs are the five "sons" of Shem who is copied from the Latin Pluto/Greek Hades.

    Critical scholarship FTW! I think of monotheism as the cult of one deity getting exclusive access to a military arm of government. How they get that must vary widely. But maybe it arises, even from polytheistic origins, in other ways?

    I still can't wrap my head around how Dan has religious faith when he knows what he knows. Does he think the data he talks about is wrong somehow? For him to cite the science of belief and to accept it confusing
    He refuses to talk about his faith in public. There is something fishy about that. The guy is a Mormon. How does this even make sense?

      @@soupbonep I cannot speak for Dan, but I can speak for plenty of people who choose to remain in faith communities for the connection to the other people, even when they do not agree with any or all of the beliefs upheld by most in that community.

    The "doctor" question. PhD specifies the degree . . . and distinguishes it specifically from the title of an MD.
    It's considered (as I understand it) appropriately to always refer to a medical doctor by the title "Doctor." As for other doctors, it's optional whether people refer to someone with this handle--outside the university setting, when "Doctor" or "Professor" are appropriate!
    As a public school teacher, a lot of our "leadership" had EdDs--Doctors of Education--and insisted on being referred to as "doctor." (Which I always found quite funny!)

    • @JenniferBirdPhD
      @JenniferBirdPhD  หลายเดือนก่อน +12

      @@roberthasse7862 Hi Bob, just a little historical background for you: the title “doctor” was originally used to refer to men in academia, not those in the heath care profession. (Long story there about the professionalization of health care, esp as it was traditionally done by women and shifted to more “formal” roles and labels when men took it over.)
      It is also worth noting that many people in our field have as much training/as many years in school as many medical doctors do. I have a four year undergrad, 3 year masters, and 6 years in PhD work and dissertation writing.

    • @snowflakemelter1172

      In Britain it was frowned upon to use the title Dr unless you were a medical Dr or very high up in academia, less so in America, nowadays everyone is using it the first second their doctorate for anything comes through.

    • @roberthasse7862
      @roberthasse7862 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @ Hey, no doctoral degrees here, but anybody that wants to pretend that an EdD (fiddling with educational theory) is somehow equal to a PhD in particle physics is a tad self-deluded.

      I thought it was bizarre that the President’s wife insisted on being referred to as Dr Biden. Outside the classroom, it sounded misleading - and pretentious.

    • @roberthasse7862
      @roberthasse7862 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @ Though I love the Bidens (and hate both Evil-clown and FOX “news”), I agree. That she has a doctorate can certainly be brought up, but nobody has any business insisting on the title.
