Great video! I had purchased the challenger 3 prior to watching the video, but your video was one of many that inspired me to get the trolling motor for it. I bought the Minn Kota 30lbs thrust motor for it from Cabellas here in Canada. It's perfect for trolling for trout. We caught a couple pike the other day too. I'm just loving this thing. I have a 105ah deep cycle marine battery for it which I highly recommend. I've been out for hours in high winds and haven't come close to draining it fully. You really don't want to drain the battery past 25% anyways. Also, using a strong cooler as a seat/battery box works well.
Hi Shawn....great to hear that my video helped you with deciding to get a trolling motor for your boat. That make a world of difference...my has wing 20 is great for the local river but I'd feel better upgrading to a more powerful motor if the river were stronger flowing. Have fun and sending my very best wishes...:)
Hi Dave...I'd say its nearer £250 than £450. Not checked latest prices but its a low cost package for a load of fun. I wouldn't take the boat out onto the sea myself as the sea can be unpredictable but it's ideal for lakes and quiet rivers...:) I've been out dozens of time on my own and don't find it too big and it comes into its own with two people as still plenty of room for you both.
Hi mate so roughly how long should I get out of a 55ah 12v battery . Brilliant video 👍 ah just to let you know I have the same w20 just so you know the calculations to time for 55ah
Best part of £450 for all that? Boat, motor/holder, battery and charger. So the Challenger 3 is not too big for one person? Will I have enough control and power with those oars on the sea if the winds are light? I should get the 2 version, but I would like to take my neighbour on it some day this summer.
Hi Gavin...the floor inflates pretty well but do check for leaks by inflating the boat, turn it over and put water on the underside...chances are you may find a leak. I've had 3 on mine but the boat is easy to patch up.
Easy hack to make the floor better is cut a piece of plywood shaped like the inside of the boat. The hard floor is much more stable and some peace of mind when fishing
Hi Harsiddh....I reckon the motor takes 7amph on speed 1 so about 7 hours and 14amph on speed 2 so just under 4 hours on speed 2. But that assumes your battery is fully charged. Its way long enough for a trip out ...if you're just mooching around enjoy the peace and wildlife then speed 1 is virtually silent and so relaxing...if you want a little bit more to get you places a bit faster then I prefer speed 2 or you can mix it up a bit...its great fun. Just remember this battery is heavy ( 16kg ) so you don't want to be carrying it too far to the river bank...I made a heavy duty canvas bag to carry it in. Another thing to remember is, if it rains, you're not going to get back quickly..top speed is about 2 an hour ( maybe a bit more and depends on river current )....also I would recommend the motor for a fast flowing river but the boat is big enough and you feel very safe in it...I wouldn't take it on the sea though...just lakes and slow moving rivers....do have fun though...:)
Hi Chelo...I can't see there being a problem as I'm about 95kg...the boat is 12kg but I often a passenger from 60-100kg and no probs...mind ...the river is nor fast flowing and top speed is about 2mph...hope this helps...:)
Hi again graham where i see that the river tee's is good for boat of out kind. could you tell me where about the river is good to use these boats and also possibly wild camp at the same time
Hi Josh....anywhere upstream of the barrage is ideal ( you need to pay to put any boat in with a motor at the barrage). Wild camping is illegal in 99% of england so I'd be very careful with that one.
@@EagleUkes Hi graham i was thinking somewhere on the river tees in the north pennies area? i know wild camping is illegal but i guess we have to take that small risk each time. people who dont clean up after themselves give us a bad name. i dont really want to be on someones private land as such thats why i thinking north of pennies possbily as its a district more than personal land i guess??
@@joshcarra2152 ....I love camping myself so I think the wild camping thing is OK if well hidden and for; be night but I don't know the river up your way...just have fun and explore..
yeah thanks will the river be ok for our boats to thin up in the north pennies area? i only ask because im actually from the midlands never been on the river tee's. where abouts was you when you did the video on the river tee's?
@@joshcarra2152 I was up near Preston park if I remember...the boat and motor are great as long as its not too windy and the Tees doesn't have much current because of the barrage so its always at high tide and great to mess about on. I'm sure the boat would be good on Lakes and Lochs as well.
I’m really looking at one of these motors for my small rib, would only be using it in lakes these days as a little cruiser, do you think the motor is worth it? And can you buy the motor and battery as one package?
Mine is just a 3 man dinghy but the motor is fine for it...if you want speeds over 2.5 mph I wouldn't bother with this as this motor just ambles along but so so quietly. I think it would be great on the lakes as long as you don't need to get anywhere in a hurry. It doesn't come with a battery as a package but you can easily buy a deep cycle battery from eBay or amazon. Mine is a Prorider and I have 2...one is 18amp which is lovely and light but only will power at speed 2 for 1 hour or speed 1 for just over 2 hours. I usually take my much heavier (16kg) 55amp battery as this let's me cruise for nearly 4 hours at speed 2...I think you can get these motors for less than £90 now so I think its a cheap way of having laid back, chilled out fun. .....let me know how you get on...
Graham Hall hi Graham, I’m just about to bite the bullet and buy this motor, just wanted to ask did the motor with come the fittings to attach straight onto a battery? Thanks again for the help
I nearly always go out with the missus or a friend and the boat has lots of room and the motor still purrs us along nicely....intact the boat handles better with another person in if its windy...:)
Maybe you can help me out. On amazon it says this motor should be paired with a 20amp battery but I believe you are using a 55amp battery. Is there a risk in using a higher amo battery?
Hi....you can use it with any 12v battery...the amount of amps just let's you run it for a set amount of time. I reckon the motor runs @7amps per hour at speed 1 and @14amps per hour at speed 2...so a 20amp batter would only give less than 1 1/2 hours at full speed...this is why I went for a 55amp battery to give me a lot longer on the river. I would choose a 110amp battery if they weren't so heavy to carry... so its all a trade off. I take my 18amp battery if I just fancy an hour or so on the river...hope this helps...:)
@@deadthem its a great, very lightweight motor that will power your dinghy to 2miles per hour but I wouldn't recommend it on fast flowing rivers nor sea use as the power isn't there...but...for a lake or slow moving water it is ideal....have fun and stay safe...:)
