Yes, I once (unknowingly) bought a knock off copy of both Kingdomino and DOS from a toy store... When I got home and opened the games, I realized they were fake. I felt so dirty inside, I ended up giving them away to a friend and bought retail copies of both games.

I have to say that I have bought some counterfeit games knowing that they were copies, but only when there is no more stock of the original game. Sometimes you have to wait for years until the game is released again, and its a pain to wait that much time.

I got a genuine copy once. More than once as a matter of fact. I still play it.

Sure, what do you need? My advice is to provide closeups and side by sides and just tell folks what you're seeing. I'm curious to see!

I recently went china to visit my wife’s family . While there got a copy of heat which was ridiculously cheap - about a quarter of the price. It’s a Chinese edition but as the game is mostly language independent it didn’t bother me. The quality of this copy is stunning and if it is a fake it’s very hard to tell. Leaving me to wonder if games in china can be cheaper because they don’t need to ship out of china.

I imagine the copy I'm showing here is one of many different producers of the same thing. Even when it comes to reputable board game printers, each one varies in quality. I often associate the publisher with the quality, but really, it comes down to which printers they choose and/or the quality they want to go with.

There are many different print runs of the game. In my first edition of the game the stickers where off centered

So you're saying the knock-off Splendor is just as awful as the official licensed-property Splendor versions?

Idk man, capitalism can be a real stick in the mud, when I can get anything cheaper I will, and low quality board games arent like low quality machinery, it wont be less efficient or less optimised or catch onto flames, it's just of lower card stock which I can live with. Seems like a good deal for poor people is all im saying. Also, isnt the 4 dollars worth it to introduce to a bunch of kids the amazing world of modern tabletop games?

While I agree that the reduced expense could bring more people into the hobby, it's important to note that the people who make and sell counterfeit games are stealing from designers and publishers. I'd rather pay the extra few dollars and be sure the money goes to the people who did the work to design and produce it.

@@greencommander9760 well let's agree to disagree. I respect your opinion and great video nevertheless. I appreciate these kinds of commentary over the hobby in general.

I wish the obsession over minis and other deluxe gimmicks don't economically gatekeep great games from widespread hobby growth

It has less to do with capitalism and more to do with thievery. Ofc buying stolen goods is cheaper but it's bad for the hobby. You are also supporting bad stuff in certain cases like human trafficking/ drugs etc. The people who are doing this on a large scale aren't good people who are doing it for the benefit of the poor people.

    • @yomerislame

@@MoxieSong oh please, no big multi national company in this world can claim to be free from any sort of unethical practices, hate to use this example but Apple and little kids in China? No one and I repeat NO ONE does anything for the benefit of poor people. Charities are founded based on tax relief lmao. All I'm saying is if you are from a less financially able family, what's the harm in buying cheap boardgames? They buy cheap groceries and clothes which would also have been unethically sourced from somewhere in the world hence the low low prices but oh nooo I draw the line at board games.

Its hard to take you seriously when you've replaced the box insert with a tupperware box.
