Guard has a pretty decent T2, I like to outfit my guard squads with Plasma and get Spec Wep Squads and Devild Dogs to take out enemy armor amd buildings. The Lieutenant's ability is great for taking out big threats, and it works on both vehicles and infantry

It is T3 building that you need specific unit to unlock the earthshaker and going one way or other will lock other special upgrades and because most faction got better infantry vraks need something to outclass other factions
