I once had a cat and her kitten forced on me by a friend who took in every feral cat that meowed at her. I lived about 12 miles from her, and on getting home I followed her instructions and kept both cats indoors for four days. On letting them out; the kitten stayed but the mother disappeared, turning up after a few days at her former home. We repeated the process and the second time, she decided to hang out with me. Likely because her son was bringing in a rabbit every day. I called the mother Frank and the son Psycho. He was a born hunter, but terrorised by a local feral tom. Frank never hunted, her function was to claw the crap out of the feral tom if he came near her son/rabbit. He was half again her size, so it was impressive to see.

Our chip cat flap ran out of batteries recently and we got home to find a strange cat in the living room. It wasn't black though so can't have been Mark Dennis.
