I bought my CSX about 2 years after its release date. Mine doesn't have a false trigger reset, and the trigger pull is 4 lbs, not the 7/7.5 I heard in reviews. It's the best micro 9mm in the market imo

I agree. I like it a lot and it offers a lot of features that the “popular” carry guns lack in that size. Mainly capacity.

I have been shooting 40 years. I have put 400 rounds through a rental at the range. Every gun I have shot has a different length and feel of the pull. With every gun you adjust to it. This trigger is absolutely fine.

I’ve been shooting since 1955 when I was four. Back then you shot what you were handed and you adjusted to the gun not the other way around. Too many grip and trigger snowflakes today.

As a person who does NOT use nor care about using trigger reset, I love my CSX. I've never had any issues with it, nor have I ever worried about the "false reset" of the trigger.

Right. Its not a comp gun. Reset is no problem.

I would like to complement Smith & Wesson on creating the CSX pistol. I have owned a CSX for over a year. It replaced my M&P Shield PC. The performance has been 100%, maybe better than the Shield. At least it fits and feels better.
I must say, it is unfortunate that the internet “gun experts” missed the target completely. The CSX is a conceal carry gun, and a very good one, period. To compare it to a custom, race, target, or tactical gun, which most all did, is far off base. In a self defense situation, the average guy, or maybe everybody, won’t be shooting to trigger reset, and the slightly stiff trigger, with an adrenaline rush, will never be noticed and probably an advantage for better control.
Is there room for improvement? Of course, nothing is perfect. I’m not a fan of polymer frame guns. The Shield served a purpose and did it well. Once I have the chance to handle the CSX a few times, there wasn’t a doubt in my mind. Too bad the “experts” tarnished what I feel is the best, affordable CCW’s on the market.

I think TH-camrs also watch each other don’t want to go out on a limb and venture their comments to far from what the crowd is saying:
They all talk about the reset issue on this gun
They all like CZs and never discuss the issues of those guns
They all generally have negatives about hammer fired guns
They all hate thumb safeties and say they wouldn’t carry a gun with a safety
They all like striker fired guns
They all talk patriotic and pro America but promote foreign made guns or foreign owned companies and never highlight the American made guns that employ Americans and have to deal with the anti gun crowd here in the states … they promote America, but they sure don’t promote American-made Guns

Another straight up honest review. Nice shooting, looks like an accurate little pistol. The thing is the $$. At $550-575 it's much higher than many of the small carry 9mm's. Smith is dumping Shield plus on the market for less than $400 plus a $50 rebate. So I don't really see a sustainable market for this gun except for those, such as yourself, who have many firearms and wants something a little different. The 1911 format in a little carry pistol gets big Cool points. Would like to see one of these come out of their custom shop where they can resolve some of the quirky issues and take this platform up a notch.

    • @wyominggunproject
      @wyominggunproject  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

This is an excellent take. I didn’t even think about S&W competing against themselves with the Shield and with this pistol being quirky like you stated people are more than likely to gravitate towards the shield. Thanks for watching man. 🤠

I like this pistol. My training doesn't allow riding the reset. So, no reset issues. Also, in my mind, this is not a plinker. Train with it but use something different for long sessions at the range. Finally, it is a back-up piece for 7 yards. A back-up gun is better than no gun.

My family owns three of these wonderful little 2011-style guns. The first one we bought had just a bit of the "false reset" trigger that can easily be remedied with some very minor gunsmithing. The next two we bought were perfect right out of the box. The build quality, and fit and finish of this gun are on par with guns selling for four figures. The battery of arms is very 1911-ish except that the grip safety which I never liked is replaced by a trigger dongle that's mainly there for drop safety. The manual safety is well-designed. You can rack the slide or cock the hammer with the safety engaged. Having a manual safety makes this one of the few micro-9s I'm willing to carry appendix. I normally carry in 3 o'clock unless I'm wearing jogging shorts or even swim trunks, but it's nice to have that manual safety. You can carry cocked and locked with confidence, and the battery of arms is extremely simple and fast: draw, thumb the safety down, and fire. I'm very happy with the accuracy at the range. I shoot and practice with MagTech +P+ JHP that chronos at 1450 FPS out of this little gun. I have no problem reliably ringing the iron at 25 yards. When practicing with cheap, bucket 'o crap ammo, it's nice to be able to just re-cock the hammer in the event of light primer strikes. With quality service ammo, malfunctions are nonexistent. The last thing I want on a compact, ultra-concealable gun like this are optics that stick out of the top of the slide like an oversized toenail, or a flashlight or laser hanging off a pic rail on the bottom. This gun wears like a piece of fine jewelry. My wife and daughter are both amazed at how gracefully this little gun manages recoil in comparison to other micro-9s they've shot which is one reason they're so happy to carry the CSX. For that matter, the slide operates with a smooth, effortless action that my wife finds very easy to operate with her petite hands. I could recommend this gun to someone elderly or with arthritis. Why settle for a .380 when there's a 9mm that operates as butter-smooth as the CSX? My "big name" polymer frame, pre-cocked striker-fired 9mm is now serving as a home defense gun. For my tastes, this great little gun ticks all the boxes. I'm glad someone else likes it too!

It’s actually UNLIKE the 1911 when it comes to being able to rack the slide with the safety engaged. This is actually better because you cannot do that with a 1911.

I actually think S&W was targeting Law Enforcement with this gun.
The 1911 operating style solves the negligent discharge issue of a small striker fired pocket carry gun. Departments would want the obtuse safety for liability. There are more self inflicted gun shot wounds in law enforcement than get reported. This pretty much says negligent discharge not a gun issue.

Smith warns you about the trigger in the manual. Page 24. "After firing a shot, you must allow the trigger to move fully forward to reset the mechanism before you can fire the next shot. Failure to let the trigger move fully forward will prevent the lockwork from cycling and will prevent you from being able to fire the next shot." It's notable how many similarities exist with my 40 year old 6906.

Thanks for giving this one a go. I haven't shot one yet, but am impressed with the ergonomics, size and capacity. Trigger did not seem bad at all from dry firing it. Still keeping my eye out for a deal on one. In my experience, no carry piece is perfect, and like with most things, impressions are subjective. You said it best- if you like it and it works for you, what else matters?

Thank you for showing the Glock 42 and 43 in this video. Those 2 guns have been overshadowed by everything that came out after the P365. They're excellent, especially the 42 because of how it shoots compared to most small .380s.

  • @bubbafinch07

This is my main carry pistol. I love the size. Love that it's all metal. The trigger is probably 6 pounds or so but it's crisp and I shoot it well. The only thing that might ever replace it is one of the newer Shields. I'm not opposed to polymer, I just like the feel of aluminum. My only complaint is the break down, but I understand the requirement if you want ambidextrous controls.
I super glued the sleeve in one spot for my backup magazine.
I wear dress clothes, which for me are notoriously hard to carry in and this pistol hides well.

  • @fixedG
    @fixedG 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

I hope S&W keeps it around and eventually gets around to giving it a refresh, another marketing push or 2.0 model or something because it doesn't deserve to be relegated to the scrap heap of good guns that just didn't do enough things well enough or better enough compared to the competition and at its price point to get traction. I think the most common criticism about the trigger was an unnuanced nit-pick from guntubers who shoot a ton of different guns every year, to include fantastic single action triggers and wanted this to be something it's not. I'm not sure they're going to be able to keep it around with the Shield and other sub-compact striker-fire models being at least as good and generally less expensive though and a highly competitive market for concealed carry guns from other manufacturers.

I bought a CSX as soon as they became available. I never watched any negative or positive TH-cam review prior to purchase. I liked the size, I liked the features, and I liked the look. The trigger needed work out of the box. The resest was fine, but the pull weight was inconsistent on mine... 5, 7, 12... All over the place, and frustrating to shoot. Later, when getting a good trigger break, I noticed the gun was surprisingly accurate. I took mine apart and carefully massaged the interacting parts until I got a smooth, consistent, 4lb 4oz trigger pull. The part of the trigger that pushes up on the black plastic plunger that allows the firing pin to be released was a really rough interaction. Carefully smoothing out these parts to work together was the key to making a nicer trigger. When new, the trigger would sometimes feel so heavy that it was binding up. My Lyman guage only reads up to 12lbs. I complained to S&W, but they never acknowledged me. That's when I thought screw them, and I started fixing the trigger on my own. I noticed that later production guns came with a smoother sloped white teflon looking plastic plunger. Guns with the white plunger had a better trigger right out of the box, so I guess Smith quietly took care of a problem that they did not acknowledge to me. The 9 Shield Plus is a better gun right out of the box. It has an amazing 4lb ish trigger. That said, I like my CSX the way I fixed it... The way it should have come from S&W. Others I know who bought the CSX all had complaints about the trigger. I handled one that felt like a two bump reset, the first bump being false. I believe a lot of the complaints on this gun were valid. Smith should have come out, owned it, and fixed the problem. If you find one that has a white plunger, you are likely dialed in on the trigger. Beware of guns with a black plunger, unless it's really cheap, and you have the patience to fix it.

I LOVE THIS GUN. Best EDC carry. All metal. Shoots fantastic. SMALL. 1911 style operation. I carry it safety off, hammer down. If I need it, pull hammer back and fire. Perfect in every way. I would never sell it. It lives on my side every day. Trigger is totally awesome! I’ve never once experienced any of the “false reset” BS that TH-cam reviews are showing. NOT ONCE. 100% reliable through hundreds of rounds. It’s so solid. Feels quality. All metal , no plastic frame! Don’t hesitate. Great gun!

Not that its relevant, but I think this is one of the nicest looking pistols as well. It looks cool as hell, truely gorgeous. I like the mix of 1911 with modern polymer wonder nines. Maybe the 365 and all its options overshadowed this a lot. But S&W make some of the best looking pistols imo, the best looking non glock would be the M&P 2.0 for me. Also with that exposed hammer the slide can be shorter as you demonstrated, which would help with less mass at the back of the gun on printing when holstered. Manual safeties have gone out of style, but I think they offer some good benefits. Id love to try one.

Honestly think the Firestar series shows a bit more of the 1911 inspiration than the CSX does, what with the overall form factor and all steel construction...and the relatively low capacity for it's size. Simpler takedown than a true 1911, though...

I had my eyes on this gun when they were coming out. I could feel what reviewrs said about the " false reset" so i passed. I hope they worked out the issue and may have another look at it again thanks to this video. I also think S&W went overboard with the trigger safety. They had a great opportunity to place a traditional 1911 style trigger and for whatever reason chose not to use it. Thanks for the a newer review of this model.

I am pretty sure the only guy in Germany who owns and carri3s the CSX since it is still not officially on the German market. I got so tired of waiting, that I imported it. No regrets at all. I love it. Before the CSX I carried the Glock 43x with optic and 15td Shield mags. But I prefer the CSX any day for its manual safety. I wished there were i-dot style night sights available for the CSX.

I had my eye on the CSX the very first time I saw it. What a beautiful gun at a price I could afford. Took me a couple of months to save up for one. I LOVE the way it fits in my hand, and conceals very well. It also has all the smooth/rounded corners and edges, so it's very comfortable to carry. To me the trigger is amazing for a personal everyday carry, maybe not a competition gun, but that wasn't the point. I only feel the funny reset when I'm at the bench dry firing and trying to find it. Things I don't like: 1- the grip was a little too aggressive for me while tucked up against my side - a touch of sandpaper reduced that nicely. 2 - because it's not so popular, finding holsters/different sights etc. is a little trickier than with something a bit more popular, which makes me sad because it's such an awesome gun.

I own this pistol saw all the gun-tube reviews that highlighted the flaws but purchased it anyway. I own numerous pistols but wanted to have something to fit with my Sig P938 Legion, which is almost exactly the same size except it holds 7+1 9mm. Fully loaded the P938 weights 22.3 ounces and the CSX fully loaded with 12+1 weights 25.1 ounces. Probably with different loads it’s slightly different but for an extra 6 rounds of 9mm it’s not a bad tradeoff.
The P938 is similar in that it’s a 1911 style pistol but both conceal well and are relatively lightweight I sometimes pocket carry with a sticky holster. 😅
Admittedly, the CSX is slightly larger in my pocket but I’m 6’5” 235 so it hides well in tactical pants. It is too large for jeans … or shorts I go with a P238 .380 for that.
Nevertheless, honestly I haven’t fired it yet so I don’t carry it yet 😅. I got it at what I believe was an excellent price because my gun store wanted to move it and they knew I’d like a 1911 style pistol.
I love the way it fits my hand and I’m usually right about how a gun will shoot based on how it feels. I own Sig P365/P365XL, P320 9mm, .40S&W, and .357Sig all 3.6” barrel. Sig P226 Legion, P2022, Sig M11a1/P229 and an Sig 1911 as well as Smith & Wesson 2.0 .40 4” barrel, CZ 75 PRC, Kimber Ultra Carry II 45ACP and revolvers to name a few.
I’d end by saying only you know and can decide what you’re gonna like and shoot and training and trial and error is the best teacher. I’m a relatively new shooter starting in 2020 everybody I know has been shooting longer and has more experience than me. I just started buying what I wanted and went to training at the range.
I’ll end by saying the CSX is an excellent and well made little pistol and I’m certain it shoots well enough for self defense and I believe from the reliability I’ve experienced with the .40 M&P 2.0 that Smith & Wesson makes a good pistol 🤷🏻‍♂️

Possibly, you are missing, or haven’t located the small blackstrap. The pistol is NOT intended to shoot with the backstrap completely removed. The small insert does leave a large amount of the frame showing…so the small backstrap just provides palm texturing without much side texture. Nonetheless, it does ship with 2 polymer, textured backstraps. I’m a fan, as I want a metal frame and a decent thumb safety, but them, I shot and carried GI 1911s before I ever ventured into the 9mm world.

Here's your 1%. It's not that I don't like it. It's that there's no method to fix that clicking unless sw fixes it. I shot it at my range when it was brand new. I don't take issue with the gun itself. Just the trigger. Oh, I never mentioned pounds. I staid stage. It clicks like a revolver after the shot. That's odd. I have a colt mustang that had a semi crappy trigger. But I did my research. Found out I can jewel the trigger. So I bought it and jewledit. It's awesome now. I think the thesis to this video is kind of flawed to begin with in that it overstates the impact that Guntubers have on the wider market. I'm sure some amount of influence can be accounted for, but this will be minor at best. Most people who don't know guns will simply walk into a shop and buy what is available. They aren't watching endless videos about what is new in the firearms market and making fair comparisons between what their needs are and what is available (if you listen to most Guntubers, they will complain about Glock not innovating and that Glock is getting left behind... Glock's sales are doing just fine despite this).
No, a given gun's success will be based on its own merits and little else. I think the ultimate problem of the CSX is based on market research. The thing looks like it was intended for people who want a 1911 in a micro-compact and that is honestly not a bad idea. The problem is that most people do not want 1911's and those guys who actually do want 1911's want an actual 1911 (or an accepted variation like a 2011), not something that kind of looks like one but not really (the same people I have heard rail against the Sig P238 as not being a real 1911 because it has an external extractor).
The actual market for people who want a metal framed, single action, external safety, hammer fired, micro is likely way smaller than S&W envisioned. Such a product could succeed, but it will take a heck of a lot of marketing it correctly in order for it to reach the appropriate audience without some compelling new feature. The problem is that investors expect hits right out of the gate and when the CSX wasn't an immediate hit, it kind of dissuaded any further investing in the platform.

This gun was panned by almost every TH-camr that got an early production model due to the poorly designed Gen 1 magazines that literally made the sides of the mag bulge out and firing pin plunger which effected trigger pull weight and trigger noise. After S&W fixed the magazine issue and firing pin plunger it was too late. The damage was already done. In my opinion that's Smith & Wesson's fault for sending defective models out for TH-camrs to introduce. I got mine from my local shop slightly used for $250 and it was the Gen 2 version with the blue mag follower and white firing pin plunger. Absolutely no issues with mine at all. I don't mind the noisy trigger. Mine is around 4.5 lbs pull. I have medium sized hands and I don't like the way the trigger feels with my pinky dangling using the 10 round magazine. I got a mag pinky extender and that made all the difference. Like the reviewer noticed the 12 round mag is a really good finger fit for most people and makes the trigger pull easy.
