    “Fly from Here” (the main part) is a great song, and matches the quality of the other best songs from “Drama.” Glad they finally recorded a worthy studio version of it many years later.

    Cynthia, I'm a 68 guy and shed tears of emotion to all sorts of music. I love being moved emotionally to sounds, it's all part of the experience. Also it's great to experience your reaction to music which has given me pleasure for so many years and some which I am getting into for the first time.

    Ladies and gentlemen Chris Squire and Yes the greatest show on earth. With Canadian lead singer Benoit David. A brilliant album that is better then the five previous albums. Nice reaction! 🙏🍁

    Hi Cynthia, what a delightful surprise, I think you're the first to react to this magnificent piece. The original ideas were written by Trevor Horn & Geoff Downes around 30 years prior when they joined Yes to create the Drama album released in 1980. Geoff re-joined the band for this album & Trevor produced it, it also featured the phenomenal voice of Canadian singer Benoit David who replaced the legendary Jon Anderson & did an amazing job. Sadly he couldn't continue with the band due to ill health. Other fine tracks on the album are "Life on a film set" , "Hour of need" and "Into the storm". Have just seen your reaction to Machine Messiah from Drama, what a masterful piece, so glad you're impressed and keen to react to the rest of the album, you won't be disappointed, it's brilliant! Cheers

    30 years in development, this is one of the best Yes songs ever produced. Originally created in 1980, it was only ever in demo form, although they did perform it live when Trevor Horn was lead singer. They've had a long time to refine and perfect it. The "Return Trip" is probably a closer example of the original vision as Trevor Horn sings on that version, but it is still a masterpiece either way. For anyone interested, I compiled a 1980 version using the original demos, which runs about 18 minutes long: th-cam.com/video/4IEVEV9-FUE/w-d-xo.html

    I bought this as soon as it came out because I had been away from YES for too long. I was worried about the absence of Jon Anderson, but the voice of Benoit David gave us the purity and nuance without copying Anderson. I think he developed health problems and couldn't continue with them, such a shame, I think he was the right guy..

      @Matt Leppard I loved hearing Trevor's vocals, but they also meddled with the song in the release in ways I thought took away from the original composition (changed some parts from 4/4 to 7/4 in a way that sounded unnatural, changed some of the transitions, etc.) Because of that, I still prefer this version.

    Listening to Fly From Here is like a listening to a masters class in musical virtuosity and song arranging. Great reaction Cynthia. I don't understand why I never received a heads up on this premier. I most certainly would've watched. grrr...Oh well. I really liked your hair vlog from earlier today Take care Luv, RNB

    Into the storm is my favourite track on this cd. The Bass of Chris Squire is really the key to this recording. As s former choir singer he is very musical. John Wetton was another ex choir singer turned brilliant bassist.

    This suite inspires all sorts of emotions, and there's an overriding sadness to it that hits a person in all the soft spots.
    If you want to switch things up and enjoy a brighter review, or simply need a pick-me-up, might I suggest that you look/review songs from Caravan? In The Land of Grey and Pink will have you grinning from ear to ear!! I love watching people enjoy great music for the first time. Give them a go and put a little joy into your prog journey! :-)

    Hi Cynthia, great video, and a great reaction to very overlooked and unappreciated Yes album. Your reaction was very much my reaction when i first heard the album. I still don't know why it gets hated on as much as it does.

    While looking for a reaction to "Fly From Here" I just came across your old video. It made me wonder if you'd like to listen to something by Yes again. "Mirror to the Sky" from the album of the same name (2023). Similar to "Fly From Here", it's a song that I personally like very much, but it's rarely heard. I think you would like it.

    Back to this. You’re the only reactor to have done it as far as I know. Do check out Into the Storm from the “Return Trip” version. It’s 1980 Yes, written and performed by the Machine Messiah lineup ❤

    I've read many negative reviews of this album, but personally I think it has a lot of great music. It really was a great (if long-overdue) follow-up to Drama. God, I miss Chris Squire's bass playing. Thanks for the reaction video, Cynthia.

    Any more to come? Have you dipped into 80s Yes? I’d recommend Cinema/Leave It from 90125 to start. Many will say this isn’t true Yes for various reasons, often wrong.
    You decide ❤ Most reactors love it for what it is: damn good music 😎

    Fly From Here w/ Benoit David on vocals. Will this be the last ‘good’ Yes album?

  • @flomalheur7467
    @flomalheur7467 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Thank you for embracing this largely ignored song (and album). With the "Fly From Here" suite and the song "Into The Storm" the album contains, in my opinion, two absolute "top-class songs" (the rest is a bit "mixed goods"). I just read that the album was "relatively successful" in 2011. Nevertheless, you are (believe) the first one on the "Reaction channels" who has listened to a song from this album.

    • @flomalheur7467
      @flomalheur7467 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Matt Leppard All in all, I also think Trevor Horn's reworked album is better than the original, but I don't think every change made an improvement.

    Other 21st century works without Jon Anderson don't work (Jon davison), cuz he TRIES to emulate J.A. but here, benoit David sings his own style. And it's remarkable how well it works! Wish he had stayed.
