One more point...I know Yes is a group of very talented musicians but I don't think they get enough credit for their fabulous harmonies.

I'm the same way. Yes has put out out a lot of music over the years and I probably only "really" like about 25% of it. But for me, most of that 25% is absolutely phenomenal!

You should definitely check out the live version off the YesSongs live album. Then you would understand why it's one of the reasons Yes fans love this song!

Your reaction was understandable. I've watched a few of your reaction videos to other Yes song, and they came later. The musicians had evolved and progressed. There were also personnel changes. This keyboard player was Tony Banks, who, while innovative in 1970, was not as talented as the keyboard players on the songs that you like better. The cool thing about this song was the thing they did with the stereo separation of the parts near the end. At the time, that was very avant-garde.

DS, I hung with you through your Steely Dan anthology and it was a blast and I feel like I owe you one.
Polyphia. Ego Death feat: Steve Vai. Behold!

I think you'd love Siberian Khatru by them (the last - and remaining - song on the Close To The Edge album)

I agree 100%. I've always "liked" Perpetual Change, it has some appealing elements for sure, but it was not one of their masterpieces. I feel the same way about Heart Of The Sunrise, which I like more than Perpetual Change. Oddly, I suppose, I originally liked HOTS more than South Side Of The Sky, but over time I came to like SSOTS more. If you like how YES jammed during this period, you'll really want to check out YES' cover of
Paul Simon's *America* which is chock full of Bruford-Squire ear candy. I include it as one of my Top Seven YES Masterpieces of this Special Period, which spanned the 3 albums, The Yes Album, Fragile, & Close To The Edge (it wasn't on any of those albums, though it was recorded during that period). Do check it out!

Eddie Offord, the production engineer took many different journeys...depending on the strength of his "stuff"...still a genius and often considered the 6th member of the band

Always respect your comments and thoughts particularly regarding the technical aspects. I love Perpetual Change because of the all the time signature changes, the jazzy breakdowns and because we are hearing the direction that Yes was heading towards with Fragile, Close To The Edge, Tales From Topographic Oceans and Relayer. Sure, it’s not as epic as those albums. It is a bit raw, I guess. I could see how much you were trying to love this but it just didn’t quite do it for you. Eddie Offord was the engineer and producer and he went on to produce the albums I mentioned so I guess everyone was cutting their teeth. As always, your reaction and your honesty is appreciated. 🎶🔥😊

One of my all time favorite songs with incredible transitions! So brilliant is the musicianship by all and Jon and Chris are the Ying and Yang of vocal harmonizing!im curious to know what your favorite tunes by YES ?

This is one of my favorite Yes songs. It may grow on you. Perhaps if you heard it in context with the rest of the album you might appreciate it more. Bruford's drumming is sublime. The live version from Yessongs is even better.

The live version of this off of 'YESSONGS' is fantastic. You should do live versions of YES, just to get the full impact of seeing them play such intricate songs

Brother, I agree with you on this one. I have loved Yes for more than 50 years, ever since I saw them live for the first time in 1970. I love their music, but this one is definitely not one of my favorites. I don't say it's bad or anything, but I'm just not a big fan of this particular song. Always enjoy your reactions and have ever since I started with you at the beginning of your Steely Dan journey. Keep up the good work and take care of yourself my friend. Much love and respect.

I enjoy this song, but not as much as others from their catalogue. No offense taken or accepted ;) If you're looking for new groups/people to listen to, have you heard of Jack Savoretti or Jonathon Roy? My favorites of theirs are, respectively, 'Breaking the Rules' (live accoustic) and 'Keeping Me Alive'. I think you'll dig their voices quite a lot. Wonderful to see you back, sir!

Always love listening to Yes. I always referred to them as music for the gods. Dramasyde, today Angelina Jordan turned 17 years old. We expect her first album on Republic Records later this year and will be mostly, if not all, original songs.

Your nest reaction should be to "Endless Dream"by Yes!!! A Masterpiece!!!! Hard hitting lyrics and guitar licks!!!! It's where Grundge meets heavy metal!!!! And a little Funky!!!!

This is one of their songs that fares much better in the live version on Yessongs IMO, well worth the listen. It's also one of the few live songs with Bill Bruford, though you'll have to put up with a drum solo in the middle.

    • @mikemicrael5749
      @mikemicrael5749 2 ปีที่แล้ว

...a short and very tasteful drum solo that shows off Bruford's mastery.

I saw YES in the 90's. 10th row seats. I could feel the synth in my chest. Great players
